Hey /out/. Friendly /k/ommando here. Question for any park rangers or people employed by the parks service.
How much does your job suck? Are there any peculiarities you would not see in another career? Camp life, barracks, etc?
It seems like a good fit for me, but the range of experience is daunting. Anything from tearing ticket stubs to approaching hunters to check for licenses or camping solo several days and potentially being eaten by mountain lions. I'm an older Army vet (35), am comfortable with rifle and shotgun, and patrolling the wilderness is my dream job.
Thanks for your answers anons.
Did it for a few years. Job is mostly harassing campers, picking up trash, cleaning up bathrooms etc. On the plus side you get to drive around brand new $50k SUVs and only have to work a few hours a day. Bonus is when you confiscate weed or booze or whatever and keep it for personal use.

Pretty sure a fed job requires you pee for your uncle sam?
Sounds like a comfy job. Not at all like the romantic image I had in my head. Not surprising, it's a modern gig with a modern budget. Where were you located (generally)?

You only have to pee to get the job, but even then you can fake it. Federal jobs are full of stoners because the jobs have very low standards of performance and it's next to impossible to get fired,
Worked in Utah and Colorado

>Pretty sure a fed job requires you pee for your uncle sam?
only if you are handling weapons or sensitive information like peoples social security numbers or defense stuff.

is right. Fed jobs have tons of stoners, especially the white collar professionals. you only have to piss clean once when you come on board.
i'd recommend staying away from the ranger gigs. you are dealing with fuck heads and criminals mostly. there are plenty of other comfy forestry jobs that don't require you to wear a gay uniform. timber surveyor is a good one.

fake how friend? fake piss? idk if they watch you pee or whatever the process is
Unless you're a minority/female you'll spend your career watching less qualified people get every promotion that you put in for.
t. five years of my life wasted

First there are interns hoping to be hired on.
then seasonal workers waiting for a permanent position
The GS levels themselves (with QSI/WG's) which
some people magically climb faster.
Rangers can follow career paths in management and biology
but the cherry assignments usually go to certain demographics.
If a person is content just wearing the uniform while doing menial work
then yeah it's all the same

Sounds like the army desu. This thread has pretty much convinced me to keep looking. Customs & Border Patrol at least has jobs related to what I used to do, and pay well.

35S, signals collector analyst. intel. CPB on fedjobs has an opening for intel specialist that is absolutely perfect for my experience, but it's internal hires only :(
would do CPB for a year in arizona for two to get the position. patrolling the mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.

What if you claim to be part black/injun?
What if you claim to be a fag and/or genderqueer or some such nonsense?
