Looking to get a kayak. Not looking to do any whitewater stuff. Just going on local rivers mostly.
I got a trophy beach 126 last year and so far it is serving me very well. It's a bit heavy and slow but it's very stable and has good storage potential. I like to nap out on the lake during the summer. Haven't fallen in yet. Beautiful day this morning.

I recommend going as big as you can afford. Anything less than 10 is awfully slow and hard to keep straight. The longer, the easier to travel, and more stable the boat. Even in tight harbors, a 14' yak is still pretty small compared to motor board around. I would recommend a Ocean Kayak brand or similar. Just avoid the short Wal mart ones

Looking to do the ol' 2 car down the creek type of thing like on the deliverence but hopefully without rape and murder. Maybe 2 miles with the GF. Any tips? I'm only used to lake paddling.

I apologise, it will probably be a lot longer than 2 miles.
Also the last time I did this I was like 15 in a canoe and we butchered the bottom. Different river

I agree with anon on the Ocean Kayak. I bought myself a Prowler 13 and love it. It's fast and stable.
Granted I don't really have many nice places to 'yak (stationed in Louisiana), but I would love to try fishing around the Gulf and the salt marshes around there.
