Tell me about Yellowstone in the winter
Is it worth camping in the cold?
When do I need to reserve a back country campsite?
Is there anything else I should know?
It has the harshest winters of anywhere in the lower 48. I would highly recommend against it.

It is covered in feet of snow, and you'll either need to ski or snowmobile your way in. Most facilities are shut down and ranger severely impeded. Should you get into trouble from man, land or weather you best be prepared.

This. Montana/Wyoming winters in general are very volatile, unpredictable, and rather unpleasant to say the least.

And due to its elevation/geographical position it's even worse than other places in those states. Don't get me wrong it's beautiful af in the winter, but not a place I'd want to be exposed to the elements for long.
