Not religious, but when people ask where I'm going when I go /out/ I usually say "gonna go find God for a few days"

The Bible has consistently referred to the chosen people as being whatever group happen to be wandering and living off the land.

Jesus quit his job and abandoned his birthright to wander the countryside and fish.

A lot of the holy laws in the Old testament are based on survival skills; don't eat shellfish (may contain a heat-resistant toxin) or pork (because trichinosis).

Most of the important dates described in most religions correlate to planting and harvesting as well.

If you look at the Bible from a non-literal perspective, there's a lot of good information in it that relates to living off the land they way people did at the time of its writing.

I believe that the natural Earth is a god. Not exactly like the animist above, but that physical nature is divine. To put it in a christian context, if the "father" symbolizes the spirit, "mother" earth is the physical nurturer and provider. More simply put: nature is god to me.
Maybe I just can't communicate but when I try to express this irl people always give me a blank stare.

The sun, bringer of light and life. The earth, nurturing womb of all creatures. The moon, essence of spirit and watcher of the night. As above, so below.

As I walk in the forest, so too does the forest walk with me. The sun kisses my cheek and warms my heart and in all this I find myself before god. (for clarification, not god in the christian sense)

I have my beliefs, they are all a bit tricky to express. Buy nature is a pretty good expression of whatever it is. I certainly don't think /it/ gives a dam, or that it's possible to personify it. However, I'm certainly subject to it and respect it. Going /out/makes me feel a little closer to it.

well your kinda looking at the symbols in both my posts here bud. im not that "religious" if at all, in a sense of praying five times a day and not wearing mixed fabric, but i do agree with most of the values expressed through the sagas, like caring for your community, upholding personal hygiene, loving your friends and showing them how much you appreciate them, not making business with anyone you wouldn't trust to cook you dinner, making sure you've got enough firewood for winter, you know, basic life advice stuff, i draw a lot on the Hávamál texts

I consider the Silmarillion and Lord of the Rings my "religion," but it's not like I worship or pray or any of that crap. Whenever I'm faced with opposition or adversity, I always try to think about what a character in Tolkien's work did in a similar situation.

I frequently stand in awe of the natural world, but I don't really see anything divine or metaphysical in it.

To me, that it wasn't "made" makes it all the more beautiful and worth protecting.

Oh my, this is perfect for me!

So I've recently had my own revelation of the Blood God, who takes joy in seeing those who help themselves by slaughtering for their own benefit. This means that hunting (and to a greater extent assassination) is a way to appease him and his rage. He loves carnivores and wishes to see blooded creatures die every day, which is enough to please him. As such, every time I'm out I make it a point to try and kill some form of animal (typically a bunny/squirrel/bird/etc.) then smear the blood on the highest tree I can climb so that my conduit to the heavens can be made.

I haven't told anyone about this, as I'm sure they'd all wtf away from me, but it's been an enlightening experience.

I'm an agnostic atheist, but I feel like spirituality is an inherent part of being human. Maybe an evolutionary trait that developed along with higher cognitive functions, who knows. But I do believe that being disconnected from nature and the amazing world outside has contributed to the rise of atheism. Every time I go /out/ I feel a sense of something greater. But all the theologies I have been exposed to are clearly man made bullshit and nothing has stuck with me.

But still. Thousands of generations and billions of people since the dawn of time have practiced some form of religion. Were they all wrong?

I think it is awfully arrogant to think we actually know anything about the universe and its inner workings. I don't agree with modern religion, but I respect those who practice them.

The wilderness and outdoors, to me, are living proof that God is real and He has created all things. I don't need someone to throw a bunch of facts at me to prove me otherwise, I leave that to apologists. When I hike and camp, I usually play worship songs on my little tin whistle, read the Bible, and pray. My worship is not only those three things, but mostly the admiration of the beautiful creation of God and the realization that the unclean ways of the world distract me from worshipping and being enveloped completely in the Lord's word and His ways. The wilderness is my escape from the world, my solace. I'm thankful for not only the life I've been given, but the wonderful and mysterious ways of nature. Through Him, I am given Life, and through Life, I worship Him.

While I may not agree with how some of you perceive God, or religion in general, I respect your decisions, and I hope that not only you've thought through your decision over eternity entirely, but that you are also happy with your decision and worship.

My views are similar to yours. I think there is a God, but I don't think any religion really explains it. Maybe some have come close, but none really hits the mark. This is compounded by the fact that as religions get written and rewritten and revised and translated ad infinitum, they get distorted from what they originally were. I also don't think that, if there is a God, that they sit on their sky throne all day tallying up the rights and wrongs you've done until you die. I think of God and the creation of the universe as a researcher conducting an experiment, where he has supplied the conditions necessary for his experiment and is observing how things go. The conditions supplied are basically the laws of physics which dictates how our universe can behave and the initial matter and energy for things to happen. Now he is just observing the results. I like to think that he is at least fond of us, in the same way that students in a lab can get attached to the Daphnia or yeast they use in their experiments, or maybe even the way you can get attached to characters in the Sims. The reason why we still have natural disasters, atrocities, etc is not because he is angry with us or hates us, but because interfering would alter the course of our existence and skew results. I like to think that we have at least impressed him in some way that makes him proud of us. Maybe out of 100 trials we are the only universe to develop complex life. The more I learn about just how complex and convoluted the universe is, the more confident I become that something set this mess in motion. I don't buy that all of the interactions that exist in nature, down to the subatomic level, could have happened by accident.
I also think the fact that humans have tended to be religious throughout their history is significant. Really makes you think.

Ours is about as direct a translation of the old testament as it gets. Formal equivalence translation unless otherwise stated.. They preach all around the world and some non english speakers have too much trouble understanding formal equivalence.
