The Perfect out equipment?
no
although good for fascines
Oh fuck, that's what those are?? I bought the hand forged blade for one from a faire and I never knew what those are.
Pic related, one on the left obviously. Made the handle myself.

Huh. Neat.
I'd always assumed the dude who made it was trying to recreate the design for an Arabic dagger but the blade looks way more like a Fascine knife.
I ain't ever used mine, mainly cus I ain't got a holster for it and I sose I an't a fan of just shoving half a foot of unguarded sharp pointy into a pack of water bottles and cheap tarps, so I haven't been able to really find out if it's good outdoors, tho I imagine it isn't, just cus.
It's got some good weight to it, though. I'm certain if I wanted it could be good to use the hooked portion to pull down vines that may be blocking my path, but a machete could do that just as well with half the weight.
I'm still a fan of mine tho, but that's cus I like collecting big clunky looking blades.
it's an awesome tool for forestry and hedges
tho it's not as versatile as an axe for out
it's also a valid woodworking tool

1) it's lighter than an axe
2) hatchets are terrible
3) more than capable of making shavings and chopping firewood
4) versatile as a general knife

hatchets are not terrible and are much better at chopping larger wood. a billhook really shows off with stuff smaller than your thumb because they are very thin and sharp but are too light for chopping firewood. the point makes them extremely useful as a short pickaroon for hooking pulling and rolling logs, in italy it is traditional for loggers to carry them on their belts (there is a very practical belt hook for them) as a secondary tool to their axes, to cut small branches and the other already mentioned purposes
when i say hatchet i am not talking about the joke hatchets with a 30cm handle, a hatchet has to have at least 50cm of handle and a decent swing to it to be of any use chopping wood. also it has a hammer on it which a billhook doesn't
