On the subject of this thread, I'm new to /out/ (migrated from /int/ where I've been for years but can no longer tolerate). I get that batoning is some kind of longstanding /out/ meme, but can someone give me the full story? How is this a better idea than a simple hatchet (which is cheap, light, and made for this specific purpose)?

I would have agreed, but I got pic related as a gift last Christmas. I was expecting the entrenching tool to be useful but the hatchet and machete to be tacticool shit. It ended up being the opposite. The hatchet and machete are among the best I've ever owned, lightweight, comfortable, compact, sturdy, hold an edge, and the saw on the machete works great. The E-tool is almost completely useless though.
