Asking again from last thread, can you buy a small lot of land and just live in an RV on it? Seems safer than juggling walmart parking lots

I guess that wouldn't count as homeless anymore, would it?
>>
>>965409
you probably could but there may be some weird regulations depending on where you're at. idk what isnt safe about parking in a giant brightly lit parking lot with security cameras covering every side of your vehicle, though.

i have a friend (more of an acquaintance) that i knew in high school. he hangs with the local Detroit homeless and is himself as well (i think). he posts on facebook when he gets into libraries or gets access to the internet from time to time. interesting stories sometimes.

Money seems to only really be needed for luxury, being that basic needs can be covered for free or extremely cheaply.

So how do you get money?

If you busk, what do you preform?
If you work, what job?
If you beg, how often?
If you do something else, would you specify?

Also, how much do you work and how is the pay?

I busk and panhandle. Mostly busk. Pay for me is generally anywhere from 15-40 an hour. I don't tend to just sit around and stack up money, but I have a bit banked away. Usually just do my thing until i get what I need and then split, but I will busk all day/night in the right place.

>>965715
Homeless traveling chicks are either in a girl pack or dick riding. There are definitely plenty of trusty crusties, though they mostly just end up dick riding too because they got with some guy who convinced them to spend $30k/yr on heroin and booze for the rape gang. If a chick wont keep her legs closed she gets used up real fuckin fast. Bad news. I know some really hardcore and cool traveling girls though, one of them stabbed a trucker.
>>
>>966237
Do you actually have a bank account? If so, are you paying taxes?

>>
>>965356
I've always wanted to start travelling to just start hitchhiking or just driving as far as I can go.

Is it a bad idea OP? The only real thing keeping me from it at this point are A: How to get food/make money to get food. And B: Where/how to sleep assuming I don't have a car or somewhere in doors to make it to.
>>
I wish I could be homeless :(

Too bad my family would never allow something to occur even if I did it purposefully

They'd be devastated, hire private investigators, and drag me right back to the mansion... sigh... I'm so tired of playing WoW and golfing every day...
>>
>>966691

>Food
Dumpsterdive or use what money you get to eat cheap. Also, whitebox (ask people coming out of resturaunts for their leftovers).
>Shelter
Tent, sleeping bag, tarp. There are forests and unused lots and abandoned buildings everywhere. Sleep where you can't be seen. If you have to, just get up early to avoid workers.
>>
>>965397
2D or 3D?
>>
>>966691
>A)
Check out some foraging/trapping/survival books at the library. You'd be surprised how much food is growing right out of the ground or swimming in the same places that you already go to wash up.
Dumpsters aren't about half eaten hotdogs, usually you'll find perfectly good, individually wrapped food; grocers will throw shit out just because the manufacturer changed the label.
You can probably get foodstamps, and it'll usually work out of state.

>B)
I always feel safer when I'm away from cities; people are definitely the most dangerous thing you'll encounter. If you have to stay in a city, don't bed down until after dark, and make sure you're up before the sun is. It's a lot easier to roll out a blanket or bivvy than it is to set up a tent in the dark, lower profile, too. Long term homebums will usually make their shelter look like a pile of old trash that blew up against a building, that's not insanity, it's urban camouflage.

tldr; fuck being 'homeless', be a professional vacationer! Camp, fish and swim, and do it someplace warm!
>>

Do u think a gun is Best defense for traveling homeless?
I've been considering getting a crossbow.
>>
>>967916
Your brain. It keeps you out of stupid situations so you dont have to worry about things like that.
>>
>>967916
while this anon >>968022 does have a point, it is better to have it and not need it, then vise-versa when it comes to self-defense.

long and short, get a gun (crossbows are awkward, and don't allow for quick follow-up shots if needed).

if your vehicle-mobile a 12 or 20 gauge short shotgun

if your foot mobile a small caliber handgun is what I would recommend. if you can scrap the cash for one, a .38 "pocket" revolver of some breed are good, low maintenance, light weight options.

do note, if you carry, make sure your doing it legally (especially a pistol of some type). I can't imagine the local Constabulary is going to be too merciful to someone who's homeless and packing heat without a permit.
>>
>>968141
Having a gun while traveling homeless is absolutely pointless unless you are hunting. It will only get you into trouble.
>>
>>968141

Nah, you better bring a gau-8 to make sure the other bums fear your brrrrrt more than they need to take your shitstained sleeping bag.

In all honesty, you don't need a fucking thing. If you're gonna be a sperg and you've already decided the entire world is out to hurt you when you leave your front door then get a dog and a padlock in a sock. The dog can be had for free on Craigslist and a padlock and a sock will cost you all of 5 dollars.

Happy trails

serious answer is to GTFO the city and start hitching out of cali. this is a good time to start heading north, hit oregon and washington in the summer. some of us /out/ists are hitting the national rainbow gathering in july in oregon, could be a good place to start. as far as food you need to panhandle it, dumpster dive, hit community/bum feeds and food pantries. all the official shit you can get schedules for at your local salvation army. eating is the easiest thing about being on the road. absolutely nothing to worry about if that's your only concern.

>>969678
you don't want to be stationary homeless. you need to travel. being a home bum is a worthless and shitty existence. do not ever do it. get a backpack and enough shit to sleep with, nothing more, and go for it.
>>
I have a question for homeless people who stay in one place for a long period of time.
I walk to work in a city and see the same homeless people a lot of the time. Do you guys recognize us normies with houses and remember us? Do you have opinions on them, like "oh it's that fucker again" or "look it's that other guy, he seems nice" or donyou just kinda ignore us?
>>
>>969789
any home bums you see every day are burnt out useless husks of people. they don't care about shit and are more often than not completely addicted or insane. they will never recognize you because they just do not give a fuck beyond whatever you give them. home bums also are not /out/ at all, and like i said previously if you are living that life you are fucked. there is no way around this.

I just bought a sweet camper trailer with all modern amenities. My intent is to live in it and buy a house in a few years with all the $ I save by not paying rent.

Am I technically homeless if my comfy home has wheels and can be parked next to a lake, canyon, or river for good times?
>>
>>969793
I'm not a homebum exactly, but I'm a journeyman. I'll stay here and there for a month or two at a time and I really enjoy people watching.

If you aren't burned out like >>969793 pointed out, you might start to recognize select people. If people interact with you or have some distinct feature, you will recognize them. You form opinions of people just like anyone else you see semi-regularly.
>>
>>970185
Meant for >>969789

Also, I don't see why people dislike homebums so much. City homebums, maybe. I've met a lot of homebums who are very nice and intelligent people. Some are fairly burnt out, but not all. Most just sit around and read.

The thing is, if they are smart homebums then you either can't tell they are homebums or at least they sleep somewhere safe and out of view.
>>
>>970188
>>970185
Breh you are inexperienced. It's ok. We dislike home bums like 4chan dislikes niggers. It's not an all inclusive thing, but fuck if we wont talk like it is. There are plenty of wingnuts and home bums who are a big hoot to be around, doing and saying crazy harmless things. Some of them are even appear sane. There are way more, however, that are shitty piss smelling bridge trolls who fly a sign all day in between going to get meth/heroin/booze. I'm not sure why you're so sure they remember you. I can tell you 100% they do not. It speaks to your inexperience that you've not realized this regardless of what life you live. It's all good though, you can like home/shelter bums as much as you want my man, save em, they're all for you. Personally I can't stand people who will not better their own situations and sit around in filth, bugs, vomit and shit just to fly a sign at the off ramp to fund their addictions. Different strokes, I guess.

Btw you can always tell a home bum. Always.

I'm "homeless" in Japan, in the technical sense. I have no fixed address and live out of a backpack.

But I also have $13000 to my name, and entered on a 1 year working visa, so I can take up a job if I want.

I get by by staying at farms or inns, getting food and shelter in exchange for labor. Right now I'm down south in the Kyushu region because it's still only early spring.

Next week I'm getting an Airbnb in Miyazaki city, so I can go have some fun. After that I'll hitchhike north to Oita and catch the ferry to Shikoku.

Pictured is a beach in Miyazaki. Today I bought a backpack sized fishing rod, and the 60yo innkeeper I'm staying with now will teach me some fishing techniques. some time next week.

The freedom is frightening.
>>
>>971267
Frightening but beautiful. I live in the southern portion of the United States and I feel like this would be a great thing to do with myself. I dont really have any goals at this point and I would love to see all of the country. Any general self defense tips? Is buying a gun a must?
>>
>>971276
If your first question is in regard to safety and whether to bring a gun, you won't get far.

And no. I carry a big ass knife now sharpened to Japanese standards, but it's securely in the bottom of my backpack.

Just sleep innawoods and don't look valuable.
>>
>>971246
I'm really not. You are either a fuckin idiot or you never leave the house if you truly believe there's legitimate danger there for someone sleeping in their vehicle. I speak from years of experience, you're just shitposting.

>>971249
Man it's just what it sounds like, a gang that rapes you. I may get around to greentexting some shit some time but I don't really do that much. Mostly just here to answer questions and put people's minds at ease about the perceived danger or whatever they may be worried about.
I'll give you a little backstory
>left parents house at 16 to live innasquat for 2 years
>lived a couple other places around the country 18-20
>end up working a real shitty job, quit to start hitching
>hitch to lake michigan
>end up at this 51 year old retired dude's lake house
>he buys me johnny walker blue and gives me some weed, says i can sleep on his beach and he's throwing a carnival over the weekend
>ok.jpg
>chill on beach a couple days getting drunk and swimming
>weekend rolls around, sure enough he's wheeling in rides and shit
>big ole party of lake people all weekend
>couple grills my age, bang one
>sends me off in Milwaukee after the weekend with another bottle
Decided never to stop after that. Been at it 5 years now. Hitched for two, ended up with a car, then a bus. I make money panhandling and busking while traveling all around the country.
>>

I am bringing people from /out/ here to the spot im staying with another /out/ist.
If you want to start journeying, i can show/tell you basically everything you need to know and give you a place to get out of whatever situation youre in and on your way to traveling. Ive already brought one kid from /out/ here and helped a dozen other traveling kids/kids who want to get into it. Youll have to shoot me an email if you want more info. We also dont want anyone over 30, so sorry if thats you.

How long do you plan on keeping the thing together? Would you still be there in say a year and a half?
>>
>>971556

>>
>>971556
Why do you only take people under 30?
>>
>>971561
House rules. Generally dont think too highly of 30+s wanting to live and learn with <27s. Dont need any weirdness going on as theres only so much i can tell from emails and shit. Also if youre older than me you can do this shit without my help. Honestly lurking the threads will tell you everything you need to know, after that you just start walkin.
>>
>>971565
Ok that makes sense but the 30+ exclusion sort of sets up red flags.

Kek i dont care at all. If someone is too scared/worried to come visit some /out/ists, stay for free, get drunk, stoned, eat etc. for free then this probably is not the right life for them.

A better question may be why does the 30 something feel like he needs direction from kids 10ish years his junior? I keep old fucks away because i want to hang out with people my own age. Anyone know of a homeless legal wiki? I'm trying to find notes to carry that are applicable to travelers.

some advice for noobs

carrying around a fishing rod is complete bullshit, so instead buy one when you need it and after you've fed yourself, return it the next day. Seems shitty, but you're not in this to be shining pillar of citizenship, you're in this to get free shit with minimal effort.

showering is simple. Approach a truck driver at a truckstop who is fueling. Both Pilot and Love's offer free showers to truckers who buy fuel. a lot of truck drivers don't bother with showering at all so they won't mind sending one your way.

Learn a few simple recipes and sell shishkebabs and fried oreos out of a parking lot.

Oregon is probably the easiest state to get an EBT card. You can usually get one the day you show up. seriously it's ridiculous. If you spend that 200 dollars to make food that you turn around and sell you will basically be loaded.

If you're down on your luck you can offer to wash dishes at a local mom and pop restaurant for food. this worked for me maybe 20% of the time. You never actually have to do the dishes either.
>>
>>972345
What do you do that for money and sustenance? I'd disagree, my life is going smashingly. Just moved in with 2 friends, bought a new motorcycle and am going overseas with the military.
>>
>carrying around a fishing rod is complete bullshit
Into the trash you go. The fact that later in your post you talk of feeding yourself with EBT and never touch community feeds, spanging, food pantries or dumpster diving speaks volumes to your experience.

>Learn a few simple recipes and sell shishkebabs and fried oreos out of a parking lot
This is horrible advice. What normies have you met that would buy some sketchy cooked food from some hobo in backpack out of a fuckin parking lot? Why the hell did you even come up with this? Spanging, flying a sign or busking in some way will completely shit all over this and you have the added benefit of not standing around like a moron wondering why no one wants your shiskebabs.

>Oregon is probably the easiest state to get an EBT card
Any state but Kansas. You are suspect af anon. Humor me with a crust check because all the shit you posted here except the showers is just not the right way to go about being homeless. Not to mention if anyone notices that you're turning around selling food you bought with EBT that's your ass.

>If you're down on your luck you can offer to wash dishes
If you're not completely inept and lacking common sense you will never be down on your luck enough to need to try and wash dishes.

I play music and panhandle. I'm not going point for point with you on who's life is better, but it'd be good for you if you'd lurk moar. Then you'd already know my life is goat, but talking about tying yourself into leases and signing your life away to the military to a hobo is pretty pointless my man. I'll take my freedom over that any day.

I don't assume. I've put 8 kids on the road who now love their lives. I've helped countless people to better their situations. Hell, I've met 3 people from /out/ so far just from doing these threads. One of them lives in his van traveling and playing music all over the country and these threads were an inspiration to him. Like it or not, I'm making a difference. You can be as salty as you want famalam.
>>

can it, sperg everything I stated is tried and true and was learned from my excursion on the road and from fellow travelers. I actually fried shishkebabs with an old deadhead and always came out ahead but then again I'm approachable and not a dirty dreaded rainbow kid faggot who uses the word "spange". Admittedly I don't know much about EBT systems in other states, just that a single mother in Indiana had to wait two weeks to get one while I got mine in under an hour.

And who the fuck wants to carry around a fishing pole? That space could be better used if you take my advice and get refunds on everything you can.

>If you're not completely inept and lacking common sense you will never be down on your luck enough to need to try and wash dishes.

I sound suspect? Have you ever tried panhandling in Wyoming?

Is music something you want in particular? I can think of more than a few instruments you can get into that don't require finger dex. There are lots of ways to busk, too. I've met people who juggle, paint, make crafts, even solve rubics cubes for dollars. The sky is the limit and pretty much any skill you have can be turned into money making on the road.
>>
>>972437
I'm refuting your claim that your life is awesome and I should try it. I'm just saying I'm going to have a long and successful life filled with most any extravagance I want along with getting paid to travel. Different strokes for different folks.

>I'm going to have a long and successful life filled with most any extravagance I want along with getting paid to travel
But anon, me too! Nah but I'm right there with you, different strokes. I'm not here to convince people to become bums, just to give my fellow autist channers a chance to experience something new if they want to. The things I do are impossible to realize or know about unless you have an in, so I do these threads to give people who feel stuck and idolize the vagrant lifestyle an idea of what it means to throw your box life away for travel. It's most definitely not for everyone.

Do you think a sword master can somehow make money with his skills? It isn't sharp, it's more like an artistic thing (think like dance).
pls respond
>>
>>972582
Haha, yes. Do it fgt. You can make money doing literally anything on the street. Hell, old home bums make money yelling at everyone and shaking a cup around. Just think of the dosh you'll get when some yuppies are impressed at the beauty of your katas! If it doesn't work out, you can always just beat some crack slinger half to death with it and take his money.

I would think though that a sword master of such skill would be better served by his blade by passing down his legendary skills in some mcdojo somewhere. Maybe you can get the light saber kids in the park to pay you 5 bucks to show em some moves.
>>
>>972588
Lol. Honestly I'm not a master (maybe in 10 years) but they don't know that. *wink*
Thanks though, that alleviates the burden of finding somethning ado for moni
>>
>>972473

I'd like to learn an instrument, yes. My hands are large enough but they instantly cramp up when attempting anything dexterous.
>>
>>972608
Just remember things like that works best when there's some sort of schtick. Hit comic cons, find out local tabletop game nights wherever you are etc. The more people you get around, the higher the chance someone appreciates it and pays you. Don't be afraid to draw people in first, find some tricks to do that you can say something like, "Hey ma'am, wanna watch me cut this golf ball in half in midair for 2 bucks?" get as creative as you like.

>>972633
Harmonica, cajon, gutbucket bass, washboard, spoons, jaw harp come to mind immediately as things you could learn to jam with basically anyone you'd ever meet. Hand drums are $$$ on the road, doumbek, jimbei etc. but you can't really play them with someone jamming acoustic guitar like you could a cajon/washboard/spoons. The first 9months i was on the road all i had to play was a shitty hippy drum and i'd average $80 a night.
>>
>>972649

>Harmonica

That actually sounds really neat. I completely forgot about it.
>>
>>972686
Learn the harmonica in a few keys, learn the jaw harp, and get yourself a kazoo and you have enough right there to compliment almost any acoustic music youd ever come across. If you do decide to learn an instrument, the most important part is to just play every single day. Even if you think you suck and think it wont go anywhere, push through it and keep playing. You WILL get better. The first six months I played guitar all I could do was play G, C, and Am all wrong. I was pretty constantly alone in that time too which didnt help at all, but I eventually got comfy with playing those the right way, figured out Fm, Em, D. After about a year and 2 months I began to be able to sing the songs I had been playing. Now I have enough content to play sets on top of jamming on the street. I make almost all my money playing music. Gotta start somewhere.

> I'm not here to convince people to become bums

Yet you have hundreds of posts trying to do just that. Are you trying to convince others to be a hobo to feel better about your own bad choices or are you just bored and need a purpose in life so you pretend like you are helping people?
>>
>>973097
Your stats are a little bit skewed there my man. I dont do anything but give answers and for the more serious anons i have em come around and hang out and learn the ropes. There is no convincing people to live this life, it has to be something you want already. Many people who want to do this simply have no idea how to do it. Thats where i come in.
>>
>>973097
>Yet you have hundreds of posts
You do realize that just because multiple posts are authored under the name 'Anonymous', that it isn't all written by the same person... right?

There's a lot of people who make the choice to live /out/ instead of only going every fourth weekend, and those of us that have made that decision tend to want to share our stories with other people who don't find satisfaction in the consumerist lifestyle.

>your own bad choices
I get why you think that we failed at life, or that we don't have the intellectual capacity to succeed, but the people you think of when you imagine 'homelessness' aren't the same people that are advocating traveling.

The real reason I choose to live the way that I do is because unless you're very rich, money is a burden, a method of forcing voluntary servitude. Society lies when they tell you that you can save up for retirement; take a look at the spending power of the US dollar, it decreases by a factor of 50% every twenty-three years on average, that means that if you put a dollar in savings today, you effectively have a quarter by the time you'd pull it out to retire on. You'll end up spending your entire life working for a dream that you'll never be able to realize.
>>
How difficult is it to busk in smaller towns? Gonna do some traveling on my bike soon, and I want to avoid big cities. First time doing something like this.
>>
>>973142
You definitely come across as someone who desperately needs to be at the center of attention.

>>973145
It's obviously the same guy, he hasn't even contributed any actual advice. Learn to play an instrument is some 101-tier shit. No pictures of this guy's supposed bus either. Reeks of role playing.
>>
>>973146
Big cities are shit m8. Small towns are great, hit college towns and find the downtown areas. Many of these places have either never seen or see traveling buskers very rarely so you end up getting a pretty good rap. If you have any sort of route planned, I'll give you some towns to stop off at that i personally know are good.

Just avoid the big cities though, they are way more of a pain in the ass than necessary. Also, they have the huge home bum populations so the locals idea of homelessness tends to be bridge bums who push around shopping carts and fly signs on the off ramps every day. They will lump you right in with those bums and you wont be able to make much money.

>>
>>973151
if i'm not mistaken that stops in Missoula on your map? That's a great town. Going down through wyoming it looks like you will hit Casper and Cheyenne, both great spots. Cheyenne is a train town where you may run into some cool hobos. Basically all of CO is good to go, Ft. Collins, Loveland, all the developed land down to Denver is great for this shit. Kansas is kinda lame, there's not really shit in the western part of the state. Looks like the western dot is around Salina, it's a college town. Then it looks like the other is around Pittsburgh which is another college town. Solid. Southern MO is mostly hicks and woods, it's perfect for you. The rest of that ride is going to be a bit more sparse but it looks good, then once you get to the coast you're golden man. It will be a fun trip, good on you.
>>
>>973154
I fucking wonder why that is. What are you even autistically screeching about anyways? I'm not a role player, or a same fag. I have been doing these threads for a year, maybe a bit more. Also
>you have to go back
>>
>>973160
Let me take a guess: your dad kicked you out because he got sick of you always talking like a fag?
>>
>>973146
Depends on how skilled you are and what level of showmanship you present. Smaller towns tend to be close-knit and have a few local heroes, they generally aren't impressed with someone who couldn't reasonably be considered the best at something in a group of a few thousand. If you are though, it's pretty good.
>>
>>973164
I posted my backstory, and once again, you have to go back if you can't handle even these simplest of bants.
>>
>>973165
Don't forget if you go too rural you'll just wind up surrounded by inbred tweakers. MT, KS, and MO are particularly bad in that aspect. Many times it's worth it to just hang out in the college town til you have enough dosh to see yourself to the next one and not worry about it.
>>
>>973142
>There is no convincing

Let's hope not but your glorification of bum life while denigrating normal people shows your intent and you post multiple times per day for over a year so thousands of posts would be accurate.

You clearly lack a purpose in life so if it makes you feel better to recruit more vulnerable people to an early death rock on you degenerate faggot
>>
>>973171
I wonder, do you even try to know people or do you just push your shit perspective onto everyone around you? I don't denigrate anyone, except shitbags like you who have nothing better to do than try and derail content with shitposts and bring absolutely nothing but salt to the table. I don't glorify anything either, everything I say I have lived, I have. The fact that you see glory in my posts is a call back to the part of your brain that knows the rest of you is full of shit. The people I have put on the road are absolutely rocking it out. You have no idea, and you likely never will due to your brain being all full of fuck. By all means, continue shitposting anon. Everyone needs an outlet.
>>
>>973171
The fact that /hg/ gets a higher percentage of posts on Mondays than any other day speaks volumes about why it's been such an enduring thread. There's a lot of people that want to believe that they'd be happier if they gave up the fantasy of consumerism to live the dream of traveling, but they're just afraid to take the risk of abandoning the only life they really know how to live. The proponents that post here do it to help calm those fears and give realistic expectations to the people who are considering taking the leap.

>>973168
The psychology behind it is actually very interesting, in larger cities, the likelihood of encountering the same person multiple times is relatively low, which increases the success of shamefully excessive spanging, whereas in small towns (under 5K), you'll likely run into the same people several times in the same day, so a presentation with entertainment value may receive multiple donations and even reputation as a show worth seeing.
>>
>>965463
>>965596
This is the best question ITT.
The rape gangs have a bit of initiation you need before you can join, generally the rule of thumb is you're going to need hep C, face tattoos, a drinking problem and you're going to need to piss all over everything you own. This will let the rape gang know that you're serious, and the piss will prove you're one of them. Once you have that in order, you travel to any number of hot spot towns. NOLA is a favorite of the rape gangs, just walking around downtown the smell of your piss clothes and booze will attract them. They will mistake you for one of their own, saving your butthole for now. The rape gang member will take you back to the rapesquat, where you will socialize and get to know your fellow rapegangers. The trick now will be to not show them that you don't actually know anything. Don't say much, feel free to parrot what they say to you a little bit, you can get away with this due to everyone being shitfaced wasted. If you manage to sail through those waters undetected it will be time for your first gang rape. A favorite thing to do is to lure normies in with promises of drugs and good times, then when you have them where you want them you mercilessly rape them. When they're good and raped, you give them face tattoos and pee on them. This is how the rape gang grows, and brings you to the answer of your second question. Full circle rapegangery. Go now, anon, and fulfill your dream.

Ticks are pretty easy to get off you before they attach. If you're innawoods or anywhere there's lots of deer and crap you just want to check yourself once every 2-3 hours and that will allow you to get the little bastards off before they bite. The only times I've gotten some ticks were times when I was too drunk to care. We're talking maybe 13 tick bites over 5 years of living outside.

>>969795

The cult leader that posts in this thread always neglects to mention the reality that most vagabonds live empty unfulfilling lives and suffer from depression and alcoholism. Go to Rainbow Gathering if you want to see the end result of this lifestyle. Alcoholism is so rampant the alcoholics have been forced to camp at the entrance of the camp. It's called A-Camp (I'd wager it stands for alcohol camp but the discussion seemed taboo so I didn't pry) and it is filled with 30 somethings and 40 somethings who are just as aimless as they were when they started. Only a fool would romanticize poverty and vagrancy, you will make a million ""friends"", many of them suffering from mental illness, and get to know almost none of them. It's not a life anyone should want. Pretty telling that the glory hound road dogs out there only give you the ultra-thin silver lining of it all. Misery loves company.
>>
It's simple economics: My time is a diminutive resource and therefore increases in value as it's availability decreases, whereas money is an compoundant resource and therefore decreases in value as more gets printed. Trading something that increases in value for something that decreases in value isn't a very good deal.

>>973286
>most vagabonds live empty unfulfilling lives
I suppose you're speaking from first-hand experience? Or are you much like the homophobes that place shame on people, simply because they don't like anyone who doesn't fit into their idea of normalcy?
>>
>>973286
You are wrong on all counts my man. It's great how you think rainbows=vagabonds. Hell, the only reason I'm going this year is to take some guys from /out/. Most vagabonds hate rainbow. Vagabonds are the happiest group of people I have ever met in my life, who would think that throwing away everything that upset you would leave you with a positive outlook? It's great that you want to be all keyboard warrior about this, but you should turn that passion to something more constructive than trying to spread lies to channers.

I'm honored you think I'm a cult leader, though.
>>
>>973300
Anon also thinks that bums=vagabonds and homeless=addicts, but that's what happens when people expound on topics they know nothing about, everyone else gets to see the flaws in their logic. We'll probably never convince him that we're human beings that are deserving of respect; after all, like a slave that has given up hope of freedom, he believes that only through working does one earn the right to live. But at least the lurkers will get the opportunity to learn something from the discussions that Anon incites.
>>
>>973300
Wanna-be cult leader I should say, of course you'd be honored to be called that. But I never stated vagabonds = rainbows you dolt, but every American vagabond will wind up at a gathering at some point, or meeting the crowd and the gathering is a macrocosm of what the vagabond lifestyle is. Decadent self-indulgence, filth, unmanageable drug addiction, worthless, shiftless, nothingness.

>who would think that throwing away everything that upset you would leave you with a positive outlook

Looks good on paper maybe. Not being able to let a child walk through the Portland city park barefoot because he can't take five steps without stepping on a needle doesn't.

>>973299

I work odd jobs when I need money, and because I don't have a mortgage or utilities to pay, I get to spend the majority of my time traveling, camping and fishing. Maybe I'm wrong, but I view your insistence that homeless people are worthless as a jealousy of the fact that I get 40-50 weeks of vacation every year.

Not everyone is in that same boat. Those who are forced into homeless because they don't make enough to pay for a home to live in aren't the same people who choose to spend their time and money on things other than a home.

Where did this even come from? Are you still under the impression that I'm sleeping on cardboard under a bridge, drunk, high and begging passersby for money?

Let's go ahead and make this perfectly clear:
I don't beg, I don't drink or do drugs excessively or in public, I don't hate the housed, and I don't pity myself. I work 2-8 weeks out of the year, then catch rides from people that want the company to places they're already going and spend time enjoying a carefree lifestyle of enjoying the out-of-doors without the burden of financial commitments. I share this philosophy only on /hg/, where channers come to read about it, because I believe that there are a lot of people who feel trapped by their dead-end jobs and want to know if there's a way out.

Agreed. As far as records go, I'm just low-income. No shelters, no criminal record, just a guy who's completely content making ~3K/yr. I sort of assume that you are in your teens through maybe mid 30's. Correct me if I'm wrong, I apologize if i have the wrong idea about your general demographic makeup.

But my question, based on the above assumption, is this "How are you planning for any sort of medical/finincial emergency and what are your thoughts on old age planning?"

Seems to me I never see any old vagabonds. All the old-timers you see are more of the "fucked up drug addicts" type and not the "working to travel" people.

It would seem that its really hard to live that type of live past your 30's.

Any thoughts?
>>

Guy with the bus. I'm not great at any instruments tho I could learn. I like the idea of playing the spoons. But Im actually a pretty decent singer.
The songs I would list to define my singing style would be

Too afraid to love you - the black keys
Ain't no sunshine - bill withers
People are strange -the doors
Do I wanna know - Arctic monkeys
California dreaming - Mama's and Papa's

And recently I discovered starfucker.
>>
>>973475
I'm 32, white, male, straight, HFA...

>medical emergency?
I'm a veteran.
>financial emergency?
When I'm down to my last couple hundred I just find some work so I can keep myself in shoes and fish hooks; there's nothing else that I really need money for.
>Seems to me I never see any old vagabonds. All the old-timers you see are more of the "fucked up drug addicts" type and not the "working to travel" people.
I get why you think that, but if you saw me during the "working season" you'd have no idea that I travel the rest of the time. Daily showers, shaving, a haircut and a pair of rockports make me look like I belong in a corner office; only my tan and a sense of not being dead inside separate me from the majority. All the rest of the time, you'd probably not guess I've worked a day in my life, though...
>what are your thoughts on old age planning?
I'll probably take advantage of the GI loan, get myself a 3 bedroom house and rent out the other two rooms to cover the mortgage and utilities, banking the rest to cover extraneous costs; I'm pretty used to not needing much else.
>Any [other] thoughts?
I basically live by the philosophy that no one ever lays on their deathbed wishing that they had spent more time at the office and less at the beach. That doesn't mean that I think that people shouldn't work at all, simply that we all have very limited time on this Earth, and that I want people to be mindful of how they spend that precious resource.

Sorry faggot but to the non homeless you are all just worthless bums not worth respect or even acknowledgement that you are human

Thanks anon! That was a nice reply and definitely answered my questions.

I've been around the block a few times, lived (for multiple years) in 5 different countries on 3 continents and I feel like I get what makes a traveling live a really nice "alternative" to the usual day to day.

Seems like your military live gave you a pretty good leg up on being able to handle that sort of livestyle and the benefits will surely help in the long run! Glad you are taking advantage of those.

Just comes to show that there isn't a "1 size fits all" solution to happiness. Glad you found yours. While it sounds nice and "different" I dont think I or many others would enjoy it too much or have a good time.

I have no GI bill benefits, no access to the VA, no access to reduced housing prices. None of that. So when i think about the traveling life it just seems like it would be more stress eventually than what its worth.

But to each their own. If you are ever in the weird burning man plexiglass half dome or hippie van on Potrero Hill, let me know and i'll buy you some fries and share a beer with you in exchange for some stories.

keep on keeping on!
>>
>>973496
And to me, you're just a bitter person vilifying others in order to feel better about yourself because you're ashamed of not being able to pull yourself out of the financial pit you dug.
>>
>>973499
Happy to help!

I get that what I do isn't right for everyone, but I think that there's a lot of people out there that don't even know that it's an option; society places such a stigma on it, that most people feel that 'intermittent employment' would make them feel like a failure, when in fact it's the complete opposite. I define my success by the experiences that I've had rather than the money I've made, and the result of that is that I get to see and do more than people with six-figure incomes.

There are many old timers and lifers out here. The reason you dont see them is because they become less and less dependant on society as they age. Youd never know they existed unless you picked them up off the side of the highway or unless youre living the life too. Plenty of hobos die young, old and in between. There are probably far more of us than you can imagine. As far as for myself, i figure id go to the ER and get fixed up if anything traumatic happened. If i end up with cancer or aids or some shit i guess thatll be the end of me. Im not terribly worried. I have seen and lived more at 26 than most every adult that i knew growing up. I live every day exactly how i want to be living it, i have no stress about these things. As far as finances ive already mentioned i keep a fair amount stacked up in case some shit goes south. I will probably end up settling down at some point, life is long. For now i will be good to go as long as my body lasts me. The other anon has it pretty well covered from there.
>>
>>973491
If you want to lead you basically have to find a band for yourself unless youll learn the guitar or something similar. Ive never seen anyone get by solely on song. Im sure you could do it, but i have no idea where id start. You could probably get by playing the spoons and singing if you looked at more traditional songs.

Busking is pretty great and easy. You can do it anywhere you find people. Seriously anywhere. Its not illegal, but some (few) places require you to have a permit to,play atreet music. These are usually 10, 20, 30 bucks but youll only find that in touristy towns or gentrified places. Its pretty straightforward, is there anything specific youd like to know?

>>974145
There are plenty of addicts out here. The vagabonds you'll see hanging out in cities are there for a reason and that reason, 9 times out of 10, is drugs. The kind of vagabonds I'm talking about are the ones you rarely run into until you start living the life.

>>974153
Most people pay their Verizon bill by working 40 hr weeks for less than I make "begging"

I know, I'm just the worst.
>>
>>974167
Wait so you're telling me real vagabonds don't travel using ports or rail systems? I find it hard to believe most vagrants on the west coast don't travel through Vancouver.

Also I know how to tell the difference between vagabonds and drug addicts.
>>
>>974244
>sitting in VC
>traveling
Pick one. These addict vagabonds that i talk about will ride rails or hitch between cities where theyll sit around and get fucked up for a while before going on to the next place. They seem miserable and lazy because their brains do not produce their happy chemicals the right way anymore due to years of drug addiction. You 'being able to tell the difference' is irrelevant because in this case, there is no difference. You wondered why the ones you see around town seem down in the dumps, 90% of it is what i just told you. Vagabonds who arent hooked spend most of their time /out/ away from everything, which is why you dont see them nearly as often as the ones half assedly spanging yelling at normies on the street. This is especially true around your corridor, portland vc oly and seattle are huge meccas for drugged out gutter punks. Many of the folks you see hanging in vc probably make the rounds between these places regularly, staying in established squats hanging out with each other getting fucked up. Hell, in Portland you can get out of your car downtown and just watch vagabonds shooting dope right there on the sidewalk. They still count as vagabonds because they do travel around a bit, but many of these kids are just in the throes of addiction no matter where they end up.

On the road I never stay in a town more than a day or two unless I meet cool people so most of my time is spent driving and camping around the country. I spend absolutely as much time innamountains and innaforest as i can, I'll hit towns to get what I need then be gone again. greetings, shitposters! this is my vagabond testimony.

over the past 2 years, I've spent between 7 & 8 months roaming North America. that is, continually moving. there have been breaks in-between, but even when i'm not on the road, i live within simple means and only have what i want on my plate, generally devoting my time to exploring outdoors, writing music, filling journals, painting, etc. I've touched ground in 47 US states and 3 Canadian provinces. ridden 2 different vehicles (currently rockin a pimped out van), and hitched casually before (something i intend to do more of). I'm only just about to turn 19. and I've done all of this within my own means - my own earnings, my own desires (I've busked and worked odd jobs when it's been convenient).
i have wasted none of my time. i am not at all less able to plan whatever future i want for having done any of the things i have. my brain is not melted. i'm still ambitious. I've met hundreds of people at this point who have changed the way i see things and broadened my perspective. I've had all sorts of chances to test out my ideas and actually live and realize them.

along the way I've spent some good times hanging with bus anon and some others from /out/, and i can verify that everyone's unfounded suspicions (while usually obvious shitposts) are just totally cracked.
the essence of these threads - and the people who live them - is fucking philosophy. a major part of which revolves around the idea that we never really have much to lose in life - except the REAL moments we could waste by putting too much of our energy into bad bargains. the trend is usually this: people who live right, but don't think right; and people who think right, but don't live right. - and i think if anyone in these threads genuinely felt that they had found a superior way to balance these conflicts, and that they TRULY were living a life that was admirable to them AND rewarding, then the shitposting would probably be a lot less extensive...
>>
>>974693

so yeah, there are no valid reasons for so relentlessly criticizing things that you are unwilling to explore yourselves. if you don't live looking to challenge yourself and what you think you know, your ignorance has more control over you than you think.
people have been living dirty since the beginning of time. we live in an age where it is fashionable to admire the supposed intellects and iron-wills of (doomed-only-to-be) historical figures, where we at the same time expect to benefit from such lessons WITHOUT DOING ANY DISCOVERING OF OUR OWN. whatever floats your boat. they all sink eventually.

Only an oblivious autist would be truly happy with such a simple life, so yes, people with nothing better to so are going to call you out on it. But if you want be Mr. Tall Dark Handsome Mysterious Man Who Merely Portrays Himself As A Pot Smoking Porch Monkey, then go right ahead. You're right, it makes more sense to post fabrications that are worse than the actual reality.

Between bus bum and his apprentice they have already confirmed this

>Generally speaking, a corruption of minors charge imposes criminal penalties against an adult, meaning a person who is 18 years of age or older, from corrupting the morals of a minor, meaning a person under the age of 18. The charge also prohibits an adult from aiding, enticing, or encouraging a minor to commit a crime, violate a court order, or violate parole.

>What actions constitute something that would corrupt the morals of a minor are debatable. explaining that it includes actions that would offend the common sense, sense of decency, propriety, and morality which most people in the community entertain.

>Other people believe that they should be permitted to argue that they did not corrupt the morals of a minor because the minor had already been engaging in the activity. They are not.

>For example, if a person was charged with corruption of minors based upon having consensual sex with a minor who had previously engaged in sexual activity, the adult would not be permitted to seek a dismissal of the charge because the minor voluntarily engaged in the activity or had already been corrupted by engaging in sexual activity in the past

What's even stupider is being 80 years old and hating your wife and your fusing to even talk to her when she asking questions and then dying horribly in a Hospital bad... But yeah if you are too stupid to fall for that by the time that you are 18 you really are just dumb and you are a sheep because sheep just do it people tell them to you and they don't look around and they don't care.
>>
>>975597

>>
>>975606
If i were you id hit vermont instead. Absolutely beautiful state. That said theres really nothing that can prepare you to be homeless in nyc except years of experience elsewhere so if youre dead set on that you may as well go for it if your heart is set. Just be ready to be uncomfortable.
>>
>>975554
I don't really know what else to do though. I don't think being homeless would go well because I'm a huge sperg and have no skills/talents to use to beg for money.
>>
>>975689
You dont even have to be homeless. Up and move across the country, restart. Get some air man. Craigslist room share someone far away, buy a $600 van and leave in it. Take some risks and make some progress towards being happy.
>>
>>975691
I don't think I'll ever be happy, my hope would be that spending each day doing focusing on being able to eat or being /out/ sort of will distract me from wanting to die.

Unlike now where nothing I do actually means anything or has a purpose because if I didn't or did do it my life would be the same. Like if my focus is living then it's not like now where I'll live no matter what I do. I'm not good at writing sorry.

>>975909
Just travel around and camp all over the country. Why stay in one spot anyways? It makes things 1,000 times more difficult. Traveling and living innawoods is easy man. Fuck, just get on food stamps and go for it. Then youll *know* youll have food, even though i promise you could get it other ways.

Traveling will also give you a shitload of opportunities youd never have otherwise. Plenty of people ready to take you home, buy you new gear, give you a shower, bang you etc. Real life is absolutely nothing like these threads, people either have your back or they leave you alone. You will be met with almost nothing but kindness from randos. I have met dudes with colostomy bags who ride freight everywhere. You have no excuses

Technically homeless, but live out my van. Granted this isn't the average homeless van has wifi and solar.

Make my money off streaming games like osrs, hearthstone, and poe (hc ssf, builds that dont require a lot of instant reactions cause ping is pretty shitty)
What I dont make from streams I get from va disability, selling scripts, items, accounts for games. (Made 1k from osrs this month, farmed 20 accounts to top 2000 on dmm, then when the tourny rolls around people buy those shits up so they can compete against their meme streamers)

>solar
500w panels, 200ah bat(adding 200 more soon), 4000w invertor. I park in a sunny spot and sleep all day. Nets me 4 hours of full power on a bad day, good day 8. Of course if its stormy I either drive to the sun, break out the spare batteries, or run my gas generator.

>Wifi
So during the huricane in Georgia verison offered unlimited data to those effected. 45$ a month for 3gb highspeed (50-70 ping depending on local) with unlimited low speed data when that runs out (120-200 ping). If I am determined to play a shooter I go to a military base and jump on boingo wireless for 10$ a day, 15$ a week. You can pick it up from quite a ways away from the base, but I have proir service so I normally go inside the gates and park at commisary (tax free food and supplies bitch, mres for days huuuaaaah)

>food
Besides buying food I fish and hunt. I got a grill. Ill get a 20$ fishing license spend a few weeks on a campground fishing, i cook it and then jar the extra. Hunting is more expensive, but a higher pay off. If you shoot anything, holy fuck dont hunt in the midwest dryer than an /a users dick on prom night. When i do get a dear I fix it, save the gross bits for bait, and make jerky with what can be jerked then cook and jar the rest. I tend to burry the left overs (only legal in some states, at some places) or trash bag em and drop them off at a landfill.
As for not meat, rice and beans, pick up fresh veggies when I can.
>>
>Toilet and shower
Same shit RVs got for a shitter, black water dumps are everywhere. Shower normally field wipes almost as good as the real thing. However many camp sites next to lakes have public showers, truck stops, or I find a punk/anny comune.

>hunting? That means guns!?!
Yeah, I'm americam, always carry my guns with me (ak 47, rugger mk2, colt python, cheapo shotgun) I was a paralegal so I know a bit about regulations. Most states will let you drive with your gun out. Though many liberal states dont want any guns. The way around that is peaceable journey. A federal regulation. To sum it up. You can travel through the most liberal states with a fun. Though most require it to be in a locked box away from the ammo. Some require it to be in pieces. Interesting tid bit, even high compacity mags and atf weapons can be transported through CA if they are disassembled. Though fuck NY you cant even travel with a knife over 4" never go to NY. I have a spread sheet of the what carry where and how if anyone is interested.

Probably looks autistic to go into so much detail, but insomnia is eating me right now and blogging helps me sleep. Though I hope someone find this useful or insightful. I'm going to keep spewing shit feel free to ask any questions while I type out my life.

>>
>>975386
>>975582
I was there a few years ago.
>>975579
Every dollar I made at my job(s) was spent on just trying to keep my head above water, paying for a place to sleep so I'd be well rested for work, a car to get to and from work, clothes I only ever wore to work, and lots of fast food because my job didn't leave me time to cook a decent meal. I did that for a decade and had nothing to show for it except a budding drug problem because of all the stress. Now I only work when I actually need the money, and spend the rest of my time traveling. I have fewer 'things', but I also have a lot of really great memories. Oh, and the drugs? Well, I don't need them anymore because I'm not stressed about anything.

>>975582
>what should i bring?
Depends on your climate, but a bed roll, alcohol stove, steel cup and a water filter, lighter, a knife, a marker and a change of clothes is my main gear.
>how much do you guys spend a day?
I get by with a few grand/year, that includes gear replacements. Food stamps helps, cooking instead of eating out helps; in general, asking yourself "is this a need or a want?" helps a lot.
>how do you make money?
I do temp work or odd jobs a few weeks out of the year.
>i really dont want to beg people for money. where do you find free food?
You don't need to, I don't. Grocery store dumpsters are amazing, everything is boxed/sealed / days within expiration / perfectly fine.
>>
cont.
>>975689
>I don't think being homeless would go well because I'm a huge sperg
I'm also a sperg; don't sweat it. When you're hitching, people always ask the same few questions: Where you headed? Why? Do you smoke weed? What do you eat? How do you get money? You get pretty good at answering those questions without freezing up pretty quick.
>and have no skills/talents to use to beg for money.
You don't have to be skilled to busk, and people love art, even if the piece you're selling to them in Oregon is the same exact design from a piece you sold someone else in Washington. Find something you can make with cheap or free materials that people will see as rustic or artisnal.
