Post your EDC light. I don't smoke, but carry one for emergencies. Usually stays in my truck. Currently carry a butane cigar lighter.

Tesla Arc Lighter. Thinking about grabbing one. Thoughts? Found one for 23.95 cheap.

Don't buy those. They are fucking shit.
They can barely light a cig.
I just have a cheap Bic lighter.
Or buy a chink butane torch, which work extremely well.
>>
>>963813
Dude i played around with one of those they are awesome. Holds a charge all day and charges quick. I say pull the trigger, ill be getting one as well.

One standard sized bic, one small. They work so well it doesn't justify cheap choices. If i actually go /out/, i'll have another firestarter with me as well.
>>
The perfect light is a large Bic. Its cheap and the most reliable lighter you will ever own. If you care about survival or living with little. Otherwise buy whats cool.
>>
>>964074
Cheap and reliable until it rains.
>>
>>964111
I've ran lighters through a wash cycle and have gotten them to work.

Also living in one of the rainier states teaches you some good ways to get one lit.

I love my Zippo, I've been using it for years. Thought I lost it in a move about a year and a half ago, but found it in a jacket right as I was about to throw it out. They are awesome little lighters if you know how to maintain them.

That said, I also always carry a Bic lighter with me - always. Have one in my jacket pocket, 2 in the car, countless at home. Bic lighters are a VERY cheap and easy solution to most fire lighting problems that may occur. I'd say the Zippo is a lot more fashion than it's reputation puts out. They are great lighters to be sure, but if you're not using it daily (like smoking) then I'd say just stick with a Bic, they are much easier to use to start fires.

For a butane torch lighter, I'd also recommend pic related.

Somebody keeps buying the mini Bics.

Or they keep making them and putting em as a bonus in the 5pk of regular Bics so people always have an annoying tiny lighter somewhere under the car seat in an emergency.

I carry a ferro rod with me every day just in case a smoker comes and asks me "Got a light?" so that I can start throwing sparks in his face.
>>
>>966815
Bics were alot better for /out/ back when they had a flame adjustment. Turning them all the way down reduced chance of inadvertently running all the fuel out in a tight or full pockect.

When I carrying as primary fire starters, I put a tight wrap of electrical tape that prevents the actuator from being easily depressed.

Has anyone noticed any difference in the U.S. made and French Bics?
>>
>>964331
Jet lighters fail at low temperature. This is easily remedied by bringing the lighter up to body temperature.

I've got a genuwine BSA waterproof match cylinder from 1963. Keep it well stowed and stocked with whitetips as a backup ignition source.

The matches that come with MRE's will take alot of humidity, but are by no means waterproof.
>>
>>963839
The chink lighters are about as reliable as a crackhead with money. The chance of total failure is as great on the first light as on the hundredth (if it makes it to 100).

That being said, they are 10 cents a piece when you buy them 200 at a time, so they can be a cheaper source of butane than the canned stuff.
>>
>>967688
I once got a smoker with a lost lighter to cut and pull insulation out of his jacket so I could make him a light with a ferrorod. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
>>
I use a zippo, wrapped in a piece of bike inner tube. Works well enough for me, it's sturdy and the inner tube makes it both stop evaporating and keeps it watertight.

I don't doubt that there are dozens of butane torches that would be more practical, but my zippo has been in the family since the 80s.

this is true. if the ferrocerium is wet you need to wait for it to dry but they will light after.

I actually carry around a ronson lighter. my gramps had a bunch in a box and I cleaned and fixed a few. They don't really lose fuel as fast as zippos. But they don't last super long. Maybe the longest was 3 weeks as a smoker for me. The flame is a lot better for fire starting IMO than a bic. This one shown is cool in that it has a pull up wind guard.

My other choice would be to have some babybel cheese for snacks and just make a simple candle from the wax to light off a bic to conserve it. You could probably last a long time doing that. I keep a small length of cotton string in my pack just for this reason. You can also make sap candles like this.
