Might be a retard question, but...
Would ANY light do for growing plants?
Like, would reflecting candle light (a lot of it) onto the plant be the same as a using a light bulb or the sun?

No, you need ultraviolets.

I always wondered if I pointed s video camera at the sun if I could use a high def TV to grow plants with?

There are far more Canadians here anon.

Anon- why are you wasting time on 4chan? You should be out applying for grants and doing research!

If I used mirrors to capture and concentrate sunlight from outside to inside, would the ultraviolets bounce off too?
>>960787
I have a solar array that feeds my grow lights.
>>960787
Yes if you want to grow pretty much anything but pot, no if you want to grow pot.

American here.
I think you meant to type "Expensive" not "expansive".

Why do they need ultraviolet?
>>961210
yes
best bet is to find some tube with a reflective interior and use it as a light channel
>>960787
Do it like this
>>961367
You don't. You need light between 2500-3500k to simulate autumn/winter 4000-5500k to simulate spring/summer

A candle is about one lumen, so according to your chart, it would take about 50,000 candles to produce the same amount of light as one 400 watt HPS bulb.
I've had good luck with T5s for veg and HPS for flower/fruit, but unless you're growing weed or certain exotic plants, you'll lose money on the electricity. Even here in WA, growing weed would be a losing battle for a small operation because the price per gram is as low at $12 in some places. i never thought I'd see the day, but decriminalization won the war on drugs.
