Please tell me about your Mess Kits. Where? when? how? why? do you recommend it? if you were going to replace what mess kit would you get?
>>
>>960141
Honestly just get whatever you can afford that fits into your pack with the other shit you plan to carry. Weight is negligible unless you're actually planning on some hardcore outings, and if that was the case, you wouldn't be asking a bunch of retards on 4chan's opinion on kit.

pic related is the messkit i have been using for the bast 17-18 years. I found it in my basement before a scout trip. it was my dads from when he was a kid. im pretty sure it was outdated when he got it. its well passed its retirement age. i'm so far behind on mess kits. i know there is atomized, titanium, stainless and all that shit. my friend uses an REI one that he spnt like 70 bucks and that just seems like overkill.

just looking to see a general mix of what people on here are using before i end up just getting some random sea2summit one i find on amazon.
>>
>>960141
My go to kit is a 2 pan kit from walmart that perfectly fits a medium isopro cartridge, my snowpeak titanium stove and a lighter.

I keep putting off buying the titanium snowpeak pot because these 2 little stainless pots wont quit and they cost me like 12 bucks at wallyworld.

The lid and bag even let you store a large isopro can inside.i wouldn't hike like that but i have it in my toughbox like that rihht now.
>>
>>960141
I have pic related and a BRS-3000T stove. It's great. For the price of those items I would 10/10 recommend.
>>
>>960190
by pic related you mean the OP image?
>>
>>960161
>>960150
This, pretty much. Anything you can get from Walmart for peanuts will be easily as functional as your ancient kit. You can pay more to have a cool guy name stamped on the side, or to have it made out of cool guy titanium, but unless you're scaling Everest, the weight savings really aren't worth the cost.
>>
>>960141
I got that kit for 10 bucks on amazon. I'm sure there is some nasty chinease chemicals in it but it works amazing and weighs nothing.

Mine is a WWII era french mess kit that belonged to my great grandfather for the time he spent in the service. Pretty neat to be using something that lived through a war imo.

i also use my dads mess kit from when he was younger... probably like 40+ years old at this point. some aluminum thing. its got some corrosion tho and i'm not sure how healthy it is to eat out of for extended periods of time... i figure i only use it a couple weeks out of the year tho it should be alright....

The mess kit in the ops bit sits well under a nalgene, makes a good mug with a bit of tape on the rim.

Wouldn't call it a proper mess kit though.
>>
>>960332

I really want this to be a thing, but a lot of cans now have an internal epoxy lining. Additionally, fuck having chromium leech into my food.
>>
I eat straight out of a cast iron skillet I keep in an old canteen pouch. Fits nice on the inner webbing of my alice pack and I dont feel too bad about cleaning it shitty

I have a military surplus messkit like the one on the image. Cheap and unbreakable.

It's nice because it comes with an alcohol stove, windcover/pot holder. I don't see any reason to replace it with anything.
>>

is that like a 6in skillet?

>>

Did he surrender the day he got his kit?
>>
>>960922
He was the cook so probably the most dangerous guy of the whole bunch! For real though, he got a grenade thrown into his tent twice and not even a scratch on him.
>>
Does anyone make larger /out/ cookware? I rarely go camping myself, more often I go with two or three other people who are a little less interested than I am in the outdoors. I'd like something like a 9 inch saucepan I could cook for all of us in but that still folds up nice like the individual kits sold in outdoors stores. That way I don't feel like a dick for making my own food in a tiny aluminum folding pot while they lug around a heavy old pan from home. My current plan is just to buy a cheap aluminum pot from goodwill but a folding handle would be well worth an extra few dollars to me.
>>
So will eating with aluminum actually give me Alzheimers?
>>
>>961194
Triangia makes some big ones.
>>
>>961199
The human body can safely deal with 50 MG of aluminium a day. Cooking using aluminium releases about 2 MG at most, so you should be safe.
>>
>>961221
Fuck I'm so sick of all these "muh chemicals" faggots the read some meme on Facebook poorly reconstructed from half ass studies. These people need to learn how to research shit before they start tossing out their gear, food and water.

Totally. I find it funny how nobody seems to notice that all the aluminium fear mongering is used to sell you fancy titanium stuff that's five times more expensive.
>>
>>961221

Am I the only one who thinks that aluminium cookware leaves a taste like Darth Vader's dick into the food? Your mom described the taste to me. It's weirdly metallic.

I also use something from my dad's youth time.
Alluminium, too, its very practical, better than those modern faggy pots.
The reason alluminium pots are no longer popular is that they release some dangerous chemical when water is heated up in them. Some reaction, I forgot the details. But fuck it, used once in a while isn't going to kill us.
>>
1 2lt titanium pot, 1 plastic bowl,1 plastic cup, spork, knife. add 1 extra bowl and cup per person up to 4.

m8 u only got one fucking face hole to stick food in, how could you need more than one pot and one bowl?
>>
>>962243
The swede ones are pretty much out of stock everywhere.
But, you can do this: Buy a German mess kit, those cost like 20$ new, the alcohol burner should not cost more than 5$. Windshield can be improvised easily. Sometimes you find those windshields sold separately.
>>
>>960141
I was about to buy that set, but found this one from chinkland. Anyone has any experience with it? Seems more versatile:

I just bring canned food and eat that cold out of the can, if I can't kill something and eat that. I would suggest a tactical spork. I tried going with just a fork, but ended up making stews where a fork was impractical and used a carved stick to eat.

Quite frankly, the tyranny of having to have dishes and fucking cleaning and scrubbing them is half the reason I go camping. The idea of bringing dishware into the woods is absolutely fucking incomprehensible to me.
>>
>>962346
Not him, but I also enjoy the company of a fuck bag. One you can control to do really naughty things, like too filthy to describe on this board.

Like almost wrong before the Judeo-Christian value system. ...almost...

But I can tell you are more of a "soloist" when it comes to sex, yes?

Das ok, too. Still, a second spoon is no big deal to carry, if at the end of the trail, you can stick in her bottom and spork her wiff it

Just got pic related. Is aluminum no good for mess kits?

Got it to replace this Coleman kit I bought that would give the water a golden hue when heated. Only used the kit a a few times before chucking it out.
>>
>>967350
Non-stick, is not the cooking temperature difficult to control innawoods? Too high temp and you will end up eating the non-stick.

Also, stainless steel sporks are sure to scrape some of that yummy nonstick to your food.

inb4 what are outdoor cooking gear without obvious health concerns (alu oxide, nonstick + high temp + metal utensils, ...), is there any?
