Hello /out/siders. I'm looking for the best telescope to buy for my boyfriend because he really wants to star gaze. I'm willing to spend up to 500$ on it. I however know nothing about telescopes besides that cheap ones won't show you much. Any suggestions on a telescope that will let you see galaxies?

Honestly you'll probably have a better time with binoculars. But if you really want to do the telescope thing you'd be best served with a Dobsonian telescope. You should be able to find a decent one with your price range.

Depends on what you're looking for. Pro-tip: Think of a telescope like a bucket, the bigger the bucket the more light you'll collect and the better you'll see what you're looking at.

Oh and Dobsonian mounts are best for beginners. EQ mounts are a pain.
