He was really reluctant to eat dog and howler monkey, but did eat both eventually. He has an article about eating urban pigeons in NYC too. The only thing he won't eat is deer that tests positive for CWD and brain meat from any game.

I've never been hunting, but I wanted to learn a bit about it and I stumbled on his show. I really liked it. I remember he said he doesn't want to be around picky eaters though, so we'll never be bros.

I'm a big fan of the show but I'm definitely smelling what you're stepping in. The emotional appeal of some narratives in the story sometimes does feel like it was written by/for someone with the mental capacity of a pre-pubescent 8th grader. I listen to his podcast and have read some of his books. He is an intelligent guy but I have a feeling he may feel the need to dumb down some things to appeal to a wider audience. Kind of stereotyping...but thems the facts and we know all stereotypes are based on a little truth.

He did hunt NZ with locals. He loved it and made it like a 4 tv episode and 2 podcast special. He killed tahr, chamois, red deer stag, Canada goose, wild sheep, and a couple wild hogs that he stabbed in the heart with a knife.
He talked a lot about how awesome it was that NZ is basically a free for all with no bag limits, seasons, license requirements, firearm hunting regulations, etc.
He knows that NZ is covered with invasive introduced species and that you are trying to keep their numbers down. He supports that and is a strong proponent of local animal management. He's perfectly fine with it so long as you use the meat and try to make semi-ethical shots/stabs.

I've seen them. the stag he shot was on private land that remi (a burger aka not local) put him on to. the pig hunt was legit, and the tahr and cham were also legit, but again, with a burger, not a local. I've eaten tahr and cham but Id say 80% of the guys over here will shoot one, take the back straps, skin and head and leave the rest. Same for deer if you are miles away from the truck. Pig hunters always carry the whole pig out, even fucking 200 pounders.
