Hello /out/, I would like to share with you some experiences I have had with dangerous as fuck wildlife for your mild amusement. Pls like, subscribe, and add your own stories, I would love to hear them.

>group of 4 of us hiking the lost coast trail 100 miles north of San Francisco
>we're fairly good at camping/hiking at this point, one of us is an eagle scout
>cook, sleep, and store food 100 yards from each other like good boys
>have bear canisters for food, stash our packs nearby
>go to bed because tired
>wake up, go to get bagels and tea for breakfast
>mysterious white goo starts popping up on the way there, Cali is weird
>find our packs, one is shredded to the point where you couldn't carry anything in it except maybe a sleeping bag
>find Mark's rekt to shit toothpaste tube nearby
Fuck bears. We had to split up the load which was an extra 15 lbs each
>>
>>954715
>hiking around south of Tuscon near Mexico with friend
>we accidentally forget rifle so we walk the extra 10 miles to get it since this is close to the border
>why are we both going
>we've walked 15 at this point but it's a shitty area so we take a break before going on
>I fall asleep leaning on a tree next to my pack
>wake up, reach behind me for canteen
rattle rattle
>fuck
>adrenaline kicks in and I hop to then lunge forward and lose my balance
>bash my face and arm on a rock
>buddy is laughing
what the fuck are you doing haha
>yell rattlesnek
oh shit
>we look for it he's still there, (on later inspection looks like he struck at me but he got the pack instead)
>thanks Osprey
>he's not moving
>we throw rocks at it for 15 minutes
>nail him a couple times but he doesn't leave
>buddy decides enough is enough
>bashes it repeatedly with a long ass stick till he dead
>continue on our journey
this was not the only mishap on our trip
>>

keep going

>12 year old me "exploring" the 1 or 2 acres of bush near crappy suburban area where I live.
>brought camera in case I see animals
>wandering through tall grass so I can't see anything on the ground in front of me
>look down for some reason
>skunk wakes up from me putting foot six inches away from its face
oh dear
>turn on camera and start filming
>back away REALLLLLLLY slowly
>didn't get sprayed and got awesome skunk video

Story number 2

>slightly older me hanging out in the same place
>see baby deer in the distance
>oh sick imma watch them babbies
>baby deer sees me
>baby deer starts walking towards me
deer what the heck
>deer doesn't stop
>see decently big buck staring at me
>baby deer is now like 10ft away
>stand up and spook off baby deer
>question Darwinian theory

Story number 3

>in the same woods
>going to tree fort me and buddies built
>wild moose chewing on grass
>moose is like 4 steps from fort
>make sure not to suprise it
>moose looks up
>moose goes back to chewing
>moose give 0 craps about me
>i climb into tree fort
>realise moose's head is level with upper floor
dang moose you big
>see baby moose behind first one
>see bull moose behind baby moose
how am I not dead
>wait for moose to leave
>stuck in fort for 2 hours

>doin our thing
>happen upon a weird looking ground formation
>looks like a large burlap sack held down at the corners by rocks
>notices large bulge in the middle
>since this is the middle of nowhere we investigate
>peel back the sack
>it's a cube wrapped in a black garbage bag
>owo what's this
>decide to cut it open a bit with my knife
>it's weed
>like 40 kilos of the shit
>hrm maybe I'll just help myself to a few handfuls
>realize this is a cartel drop off and that might be a bad idea as border patrol and Sinaloas both looking for their shit
Jason we need to get the fuck out of here
>luckily this was morning so we could go quite a ways away
I consider Mexicans to be dangerous animals so this counts btw

pic was how the snake looked

Looked like the right hand stuff. Later on we talked with a border patrol guy on an ATV and he said apparently young kids like 10 year olds take the stuff across the border as their payment for passage to America. They wear these funny shoes that look like brushes on the bottom so you apparently can't track them. I don't know how that would work but I didn't ask

>hiking with ex gf in Maine near the end of the Appalachian Trail
>she doesn't know shit but her parents are rich and bought her gear so we could do this
>we'd been at it for about 4 days and I'm getting tired of looking at the understory of a forest
>not really paying attention
OMIGOSH
>what?
>she's frantically taking off her pack and unzipping it
>why?
There's a moose! I'm getting my camera
>there's a moose on the not nearly distant enough trail
>oh fuck moose kill more people than bears
>realize it's June
>mothers calf in May and can become super aggressive
>I can't tell the sex of a moose and don't see a calf but don't want to risk it
We gotta go now babe
>try and explain how I don't want to die while shushing her pleading for fear of alerting it
>this was difficult as she has a huge thing for moose, like stuffed animals and shit
She was very mad about this despite my explanations until we got back and her dad explained to her they are not friendly cows with antlers. Daddy's little girl I guess

>p good so far except the first day Jason fell in a creek and got all his shit wet
>get to a campsite and decide to dry him out before proceeding
>2 dudes come up to the site
Hey bro what's up can we share the site with you?
>they're white so sure why not
>sit around a fire telling stories about college
>apparently these guys started out yesterday after each killing a six pack of beer
>they had also brought a boombox initially but it was too heavy so they turned back and started out again the next day
>redflags.png
>tell us about all the coke and partying they do at U of Alabama
>that's cool I guess
>our party goes to bed, they decide to stay up
>I have bad feels about these guys
>go to their tent
>notice their packs are still outside
Hey guys um we were just wondering if you were going to put your packs in the bear box?
"yeah dude we're gonna chill for a bit though before we do that"
OK because there is a reason we have bear boxes
"haha yeah"
Alright see you tomorrow
>go to bed
>wake up to screaming and grunting (no homo)
>three of us stay perfectly still
>grunting stops
>20 minutes later Jason goes to investigate
Apparently though they did put their packs in the bear box one of them had beef jerky in the tent but didn't think it was a big deal since he ate it all. Bear got scared off though, and no damage to the tent or anything. Some people I swear to God

Dont know how greenpost and don't care.

bike trip last fall. second night in this rabid female deer attacks me. I have a knife in one hand, mace in the other with my headlamp set on max to blind the fucker. It charges me and tries to bike and kick me with its front legs. I stabbed it really good in the side of it's neck/body and it fucks off. I distinctly remember hearing it huffing and getting closer, having to get out of my hammock and prepare myself while exclaiming out loud "am i really having to fight a fucking wild animal on this trip? is this really happening?"

i think it had rabies and thats why it attacked but who knows.

I believe Coral snakes have the smallest fangs of any venomous snake. Like so small you need to shove your finger down its throat to get bitten.

not who you were responding to but:
they're still snakes, and unhinge their jaws to bite and feed, so they'll still get ya. they can't pierce leather (but c'mon, the snake itself is tiny as fuark) but essentially if it DOES bite you then it'll latch on (it chews to envenomate) and you need really massive amounts of antivenom. ASfuckinAP to keep your heart from stopping.

snakes like this kinda follow the scorpion rule: the big strong ones have weaker venom cause they can hold on or catch up to whatever they hunt; the puny weak ones have venom that paralyzes and kills fast so they don't have to fight their food

they're mainly just nonagressive and really really don't WANT to bite things that aren't food
>>
>>954746
jesus mate, how are you really not dead? do you look deer/moose-like? they must accept you as one of their own
>>
>>955091
i use long-ass sticks to move rattlers out of the way. they don't read mammalian heat on the stick so it actually calms them down a bit before the move

i live in CA and we have enough hantavirus issues that i want plenty of snakes around to kill the vermin

lol

As someone from Alabama I apologize on behalf of my state. We don't have the smartest /out/ community since it's mainly comprised of hunters. Since there's no decent camping and hiking here most people are fairly retarded if they haven't done their research.

just because it's not painful (remember, paralytic) doesn't mean it won't stop your heart long after you think you're in the clear

>just because it's not painful (remember, paralytic) doesn't mean it won't stop your heart long after you think you're in the clear

The link you posted contradicts the shit you just said. Come on sport.

>While a pitviper bite will usually begin to manifest symptoms (pain) immediately, bites from coral snakes may not become symptomatic for several hours — often four to six hours or more — after the bite. So while all venomous snakebites are medical emergencies that must be dealt with immediately, coral snake bite patients typically have plenty of time to reach medical care before things start getting really bad.

Sure it was coral? There's another snake that looks just like it but is non venomous. Forget the snake though
