I often run but I have a hard time to keep track of my progress. I am torn between buying a Garmin 230 or a 920xt.
Advice?
I have a 910XT, it's fine. Get the soft chest strap if you track your heart rate.
do you not have a smartphone? if so, just by an arm strap and download a free app that utilizes the built in accelerometer. If you don't have a smartphone....why the fuck not? I use the nike+ app for all my runs. 20 dollar arm strap + iphone bro.

Yeah but it's clumsy and I can't watch all the info I need while running, especially for my pace
I still use a forerunner 101... Not having to worry about the lipoly not being able to hold a charge is nice. No way to integrate the info into anything(not even a PC program. Info can't be transfered off the watch) so in-depth tracking is a no go. Also wish it grabbed satellites faster. Usually misses the first ~400m of my run as it's not holding a signal.
All that shit is worth dealing with since I know it won't turn into a brick 4 years from now. I had a 310xt that I tossed a few years ago cause of that.

Dunno what exactly you're trying to track but for me the fitbit charge hr or charge 2 is enough. Steps, estimate of distance, but the most important thing is it takes your resting heart rate every day for you so you can see your progress getting in better cardiovascular shape. Also let's you know when you're over training if your resting rate starts to climb.
I also use a chest strap some times if I want a real accurate heart rate since no wristworn device is very good for that. Mostly for easy/long/recovery runs.
