Sup /out/, don't visit you guys too often but you're one of the few boards that have a good reputation on the other boards.

I live in SoFlo and recently started hiking as a hobby on my days off from boxing/work. Anyone know of any great trails in the Everglades to smoke a joint and take a nice long hike in?

I have been to Markham and High Taylor State park. Broward does not have too many parks unfortunately.

There's a park up in Delray I think, just north of where Atlantic meets 441 and there are some paths and trails though there. Never really went down the paths since I just went there to fish in the canals but I think they wind around through the trees. Called Loxtahatchee Park I think.

There's also another Loxtahatchee Park or Preserve closer to Parkland/Deerfield. Take Hillsboro west until it ends at Loxtahatchee Rd and go west on Loxtahatchee until it ends. I think University goes thru to that road too. And then there is some shit at Everglades Holiday Park where Griffin Rd hits US-27 but idk about paths. Also the Sawgrass Expy and Commercial or Atlantic, there is a little parking lot and you get to some paths back there.

The two Loxtahatchees are def worth checking out. The one closer to Parkland and Deerfield is pretty easy to get to from the Sawgrass and I have walked down the one path maybe like a mile to get to this bridge and it keeps going. They rent kayaks at the one in Delray.

Shit man thank you very much.

I feel so stupid, the Everglades has been in my backyard all these years and I've never taken the time to appreciate it. I just saw the trail by Sawgrass I may check those out.

There's also a ton of parks on Alligator Alley and Tamiami Trail that look juicy. Im going to try to hit up as much as I can before the wet season.

I appreciate your help. Are you from South Florida?

Not from here but I live here.

And yeah there are a couple areas to pull off along I-75 but never been out to them much.

Pic related is the Loxtahatchee Rd one in Parkland. You can go on Google Maps and see some pics of the area. Those few gravel paths are gated so you can't drive down them but you can walk forever down them.

That Loxtahatchee in Delray has some potential too. Went over there once to try and fish and I remember seeing a bunch of paths that branch off the main road going back into the trees n shit.

And then this is the one further north. It's a little bit north of Atlantic and 441 (Delray, not like Pompano/Margate Atlantic). Looks like right where Atlantic hits 441, you can go west on Atlantic a little more and there is a park with a bike path right there on the border with the swamp.

And I gotta check out that one off the Sawgrass one day by Commercial. If you drive past on a Saturday morning, there are always a bunch of cars pulled off right there with people fishing, cycling, and walking. Super easy to get to as well since it is right off the Sawgrass. And Everglades Holiday Park by Griffin and US27 is a big tourist trap but I have been there delivering shit for work a bunch of times and the property is pretty big so there has to be some good spots to go wander off down some paths.

And here's Holiday Park. You can see some trails in between US-27 and the actual park when you are going down that road.

Only thing is they have those gator shows and air boats there, so if you go into the actual park area, not sure how much peace and quiet you will get. But you can get away from the buildings and docks pretty easily.

Sweet, if this thread isn't archived by the Saturday I'll post some photos I take wherever I go.

I'm stoked. My dad's tombstone is on 441 near Lake Worth so I might take the drive up there and kill 2 birds with one stone.
>>
not sure what part of the everglads is your backyard but if you are willing to make a full day trip Big Pine Key has some great trails for walking and some really amazing paddling.

I've been meaning to ask this for a while, but FL doesn't come up in /out/ very often. If I hitch-hike and sleep outside, is FL a pretty dangerous place to travel? I'm from WA, so I've heard horror stories about gators everywhere but obviously no first hand accounts from anyone I know, just news sensationalism.

Checked

And nah, gators are pretty chill from every encounter I have had. They like to hang around when you're fishin and see if they can nab a weak fish. Just be smart and don't decide to take your little shit doge on a midnight walk right along the waterline and you will be fine.

It is tropical tho, so the bugs are bigger and we get some fun invasives.
>>
>>952337
I've heard that you get mosquitoes as big as hummingbirds down there...

I'll check it out, and report back if I don't get eaten.
>>
>>952340
Spiders that will eat hummingbirds too.

At least it's not as bad as Australia. Less convicts and Abos.
>>
>>952266
My favorite is the Snake Bight trail in the NP. You better go soon as the Mosquitos can be completely unbearable. Check the website as they actually have a mosquito gauge. I've seen turtles, crocs, gators, flamingos, horseshoe crabs and a rattle shake in the park. It a neat place but just be prepared. There is also canoe camping, but I've never done it
>>
>>952864
I've never been to the NP. I know wet season starts soon and that's when they come out in full force.

>>
>>953446
If you ever go up to the Loxtahatchee preserve by Delray/Boynton, there is a fuckhueg gator that lives right under the doc. You will know when he is around because there will be 40 cunts trying to take pics. I think he is something like 12' and just hangs around waiting for somebody to toss him a bluegill.

How bad are snakes hiking there, I'm planning on hiking a bit on the panhandel this spring I'm from nh and have never seen poison snake before, are they a worrie?
>>
>>954004
I'm not innaswamp a ton, but I'm always fishing urban areas, suburban areas, and some of the edge of the Everglades and it has never been a big issue for me. Seen some garter snakes (had one sneak into my house when I left the back door open for the doges) and I know ball pythons are supposed to be bad in some places but neither of those are a threat. Considering I'm always on the water, never had an issue with poisonous water sneks. Might be slightly worse other places in the state but not like the West where you could step on a rattlesnake out of nowhere.

Fort Laudy reporting

The only hike I can think of that I've done recently that is noteworthy is in everglades national park at the Flamingo center the coastal prairie trail.
the CPT is extremely beautiful and I would recommend it to any south Floridian, but only in the winter.
Me and 2 other anons hiked it 2 weeks ago and the mosquitoes were so sever we almost turned around. If you do plan on hiking it cover all your skin and put a net around your head. The trail begins with about a half mile of hammock, opens up to a few miles of prairie, drops black into hammock for a few miles, opens up to a prairie, then you cross a saltwater pond and you end up at a natural beach which is surprisingly nice.

I'll post a few pictures

I'm still amazed how warm the Atlantic is when I go in even though I moved down here close to 4 years ago. The current is crazy too when you are in the warer around here with the Gulfstream basically running along the beach.
