what is this terrain feature called? its the deepest part of where the water reaches the furthest in to the land. its like the opposite of saying the crest of the land. how do i explain this inverse-crest? whats the actual term
I'd go for "bay".
Fjord, sound, bight, bay, cove, harbour.
Inlet?

Me again. After cosulting college level physical geography and geology texbooks, USGS map indecies and sailing navigation standards, the proper terminology is predicated on the landform rather than the water.
e.g. A bay is too broad a term, if there is a river, its the inlet or outlet. If it's got sandbars, delta.
If it's shallow, and navigable only at high tide, a tidal flat.
In short, I need to be done thinking about this. I've got a life
