Thinking about going on deep innawoods one day..

I know most national parks allow dispersed camping, however not for more than 20-30 consecutive days. Look into the land you plan to camp on. If you camp for 3 weeks, then step away, for a day (resupply food) or something, then you'd legally be within the right to go for another consecutive however many days is allowed for that particular area.

Is this even true? I see this posted a lot but I can't believe it. I live near Acadia, which, granted, is tiny; but the rangers here will kick your ass, fine your ass, and potentially ban you from the park.

However, the Adirondacks are not a national park. OP if you care whether or not what you're doing is illegal, it's probably not for you in the first place.

Yeah, I recently read Jefferson/Washington National forrest allows up to 21 consecutive days of dispersed camping. I also looked into other states out west and some don't even state restrictions on dispersed camping, other than be away from water/trail/road, the usual shit. So I am assuming some states are more relaxed than others. Just do your research, I'm sure there are forests and areas where you could camp for extended months on end.

i want to backpack one of the trails at Algonquin Park this summer, never backpacked before.

How does the whole overnight thing work? Can I find a nice spot to set up camp, start a fire etc? or do I have to sleep in designated areas.

I might just go in the summer and live out deep into crown land for a couple months. If somebody comes to kick me off or something, I'll ask him lol. What's the worst that can happen, they kick you off? Surely they can't fine you thousands of dollars for this... I hope.

Let me tell you about the internet. It's this thing where you can pull up information on stuff like this that's posted on websites hosted by the people in charge of thing you want to know about. That's how I found out that you can stay on NF land for up to sixteen consecutive days.
