Myself, my brother and our friend will be doing the one can challenge in mid March or early April and I wanted to invite /out/ to join us.

The guidelines are simple. You can have one bladed tool such as a multi, an axe or a saw and whatever gear you can fit completely inside a 12oz or smaller container. Regular clothing, required medicines, and tobacco (because we aren't quitting) aren't restricted (but you can't use non-resricted items such as lighters brought specifically for cigarettes to also light fires). We'll also be packing additional gear including a med kit, bottled water and some food for emergencies, but of course the challenge is to not use them during the week that we'll be there. We also will be in separate areas and not sharing supplies or resources. We'll be doing the challenge in NF land near a stocked lake.

Obviously, this is the internet so people will probably cheat, but fuck them, they're only cheating themselves; this is an exercise to test skills and learn from mistakes.

Open discussion for gear ideas and whether you plan on doing the challenge yourself. If it generates interest, I'll report back and open a discussion on what worked and what gear was packed but not used, and how long we made it without tapping into the emergency gear.

>when we did this in the 1980s we used only what could fit into a single 35mm film bottle for 2 weeks in the field
>>
>>942218
That's impressive! Military or just friends goofing off like my buddies and I are doing?
>>
>>942223
Just friends. For military, you only got a knife and map. Plus, there's checkpoints, a time limit measured in days, and a team whose sole job it is to catch you, put you into a sack, and beat you. Did I mention the knife is the same knife that has been used for years and passed down from solider to solider? It is about as sharp as your shoe, which you don't have.
>>
>>942228
lol. I'm glad we're not doing that. I do like the film canister idea though. If this pans out, that'll probably be the next challenge we do.
>>
So far, what I've come up with is:
Mini BIC
A mylar emergency blanket
A few strips of duct tape
A few hundred feet of 6lb line
~100 feet of 4lb leader break line
~40 egg hooks
4 Safety pins
1 Bottle artificial eggs, repacked in a zip bag
Some snare wire (specs undecided)
2 1Gal zip freezer bag

Hunting knife

I think the mylar will make an adequate shelter as long as I put some tape on the corners to act as grommet points. I plan on making a fishing spindle, casting out multiple lines and fastening the ends to the safety pins to easily hook them around branches (this lake has about 9" trout, so that should hold up). Rather than boiling my water, I'll be just bagging it and setting it in the sun for a few hours.

I think I'm pretty well covered. What do you think?
>>
>>942238
You should get braided line instead of shitty mono. Much, much stronger for whatever the hell you need it for.

Works bretty gud for fishin too. Look up PowerPro. 20lb PowerPro is about the same diameter as 6lb regular monofilament.
>>
>>942239
I didn't realize it was the same diameter. That'll be nice for tying up the tarp too; I'll check that out, thanks!
>>
>>942249
It comes in all different strengths. 40lb braid is like 10lb-12lb mono so you could use the same thing of line to tie down tarps and catch fish. Costs a little bit more than cheap mono tho, good braid is $15-$20 for 125yds or $25-$35 for 300-350yds depending where you get it. Walmart even carries PowerPro so not like you need to go somewhere special.
>>
>>942255
I've never lost trout with 6lb mono, but if braid is all-around better, what would be the equivalent?

I think 15lb or 20lb braid is about the same diameter as 6lb mono.

6lb mono is still pretty strong for what it is, but I'm just thinking if you got some 40lb braid you could probably use it for a lot more things than the 6lb and you will still be able to tie a hook onto it and rip some bluegill out of the water.

>8lb Trilene (quality mono)- 0.30mm
>30lb SpiderWire (braid)- 0.30mm
>>
>>942284
Neat! Ill do that then. I dont break line very often, but this wouldn't the time to do it.
>>
>>942238
if you are gunna be by water might as well throw in a Fresnel lens just in case your light gets wet. they are small as hell and are not just a meme product.

also does that bagging water technique really purify it? i figure you would want a mini filter or pills?
>>
>>942303
no the original poster, but SODIS is a legit method. it takes time and would be difficult to use on the move though.

>>
>>942303
I keep a small fresnel in my wallet at all times, and my group had established that wallets would be considered part of our clothing. But otherwise, I'd definitely add one.

Yes, through UV I believe. I normally carry a Sawyer and a chlorine dropper, which will be in my backup gear, but despite the long wait time, this seems like the best method when space is the restriction.

>>942308
Nice. Thanks!

today i learned something new!

thanks /out/!!

We did it in the 1930s for THREE weeks using only what we could fit inside a shot glass.
Not a jigger, a shot.
Of course, there was no internet, so there was no way to cheat.
>>
>>942337
We've come a long way from the old party lines, haven't we?
>>
>>942337

we did this in the 1920s for two MONTHS using only what we could fit inside of your grand pappys pocketwatch!!

and there was no radio then so there was not way to cheat!!
>>
>>942351
So...
We finally meet.
After all these years we found you.
You're the thieving bastard who stole my grandpappy's pocketatch.
>>
>>942218

no knife?
>>
>>942351

We did this in 1910s for six MONTHS using only a rifle.

And the officers would shoot you for not going over the top so there was no way to cheat.

I like how you retards worship spec ops without knowing a thing about it.

I have literally changed more tires on a stranded seal team (2) than i have confirmed kills. And i have a god damned valorous bronze star.

Most spec ops cant survive longer than their camelbacks. And hey, assasins are great. I never complained about jet fuel when we had apache escorts. But most $eals are retards.

Every 75th i met was all business
