maps and guidebooks over here.
i just dont go anywhere where i truely would need it often enough.
im sure there are places where its a must have but in 99 percent of national/state parks in the US the free topography map works just fine.

I use Google maps and call my mom if I get lost
used maps.me, which used to be an amazing offline maps app for android.
it is unfortunately becoming UTTER SHIT thanks to uber/ads/traffic data

Map and compass here. I don't go anywhere that's life or death enough to need a gps. Also batteries die.
When I use google maps sometimes I hike outside of cell service. Then it looks like this. The GPS still works but that's it.

Download the actual area maps before you go out, I dont exactly remember how to do it on a phone(i know it's possible though), but it means the map data doesnt have to be downloaded from cell service and that It can track you without it.

Same here. Wish there was a updated version of it. Does everything I want, but better efficiency and battery life would be nice. It's basically an etrex10, with more features, but older chipset.
Free USGS topos printed on a nicw (work) HP color plotter.
t. I tested GPS IIF-A and GPS III satellites.
