Hey everyone! So my wife and I are kicking around the idea of relocating in the somewhat near future. We're currently in southeast MO, have a small farm on a handful of acres and are slowly becoming more self sufficient. As we get our finances in order we're beginning to plan for a new house, but aren't quite sure whether or not we want to stay in Missouri. We're considering the northwest. Wyoming, North Dakota, etc. Our most important considerations are a cold climate, very little gov oversight and regulations, and land that would allow us to sustain ourselves. What states would everyone recommend?
Look around the Salmon River Mountains in Idaho. Very cold but has nice summers to be able to grow lots of potatoes and other crops.

The northwest is full. Try Wisconsin or the UP.

Thanks, I'll look into it.

If you are not Californian or an asshole, welcome to Idaho. Heads up though is you want a car to handle snow if you are up near Salmon

Not him, but if you've lived in a hot wasteland most of your life you'd also want to go to a cold place, that is, is you're not a retard that likes hot wastelands
Disclaimer: I don't know how hot/cold Missouri is, I live in a hot third world shithole

Doesn't matter. You're still Californian before you're anything else.

After more research we've pretty much narrowed it down to W Montana or N Idaho!

SE Missouri has pretty much the worst combination of highest temps and highest humidity in the central US, at the same time. It's shitty. Almost 30 years of that crap and we've had enough, cold is a lot easier to deal with for my wife and I.
