>>925925
holly schidt how is this even possible
>>926034
by diligently checking standing dead wood.
>>926034
I don't understand.
A log cut in half?
>>926050
>>926045
it's just so saturated with resin
>>926033
Nice pupper
>>926034
a sappy tree dies suddenly and disease free, leaving it standing but dead. over the course of a season or two (or three) all of the sap drains to the bottom portion, while the wood itself dries.
the entire bottom section of the standing wood will become fatwood, while the top is perfectly dry.
>>926079
can I do this myself at home? like, cut a tree down, seal up the bottom so the sap doesn't run out, and then leave the tree standing for a few years?
pic related. i like making pics related.
>>926045
fat wood, summer child.
>>926097
Sorry, iPad was wrong way.

what kind of rifle is that?
also whats the radio for
>>925925
>>925925
the campfire is gonna be bright tonight I tell you hwhat
>>926084
mmmm kinda. my understanding is it's best if it dies of a sudden and severe drought. i imagine putting it in water like they do xmas trees might mess with the process a bit since it's not sealed and water gets added.
it's usually the kinda thing that's found, not made
>>927606
Ruger M77 chambered in .308
We use radios to communicate and coordinate when we hunt.
>>927808
Where in the Artic are you?
>>927813
I'm in southern Norway (below the arctic circle actually). Some times reindeer migrate down to our mountains, but there are much less here than it was before. We went looking for some but had no luck this year. Moose hunting yields more results.
/thread
>>927830
>>927814
I was expecting that, but a little suprised you are shooting Ruger instead of Tikka?
>>927835
The rifle has been in the family for a while, my dad bought it in the 70s. It's actually a pretty accurate rifle and shoots well, but I've definitely considered Tikka for my own rifle purchase when I get more income.
Where did you take your schnapps picture? The /out/ patch is nice, maybe I should get one too.
>>926045
That wood is permeated with resin, aka congealed sap.
They're god's own firestarters. Touch a match to a strip and it'll take a light almost instantly and burn for a good while.
Cut a log like that into 1 foot sections, then split those sections into 1/2" wide strips. You'll have enough firestarters to last you for years.
>>927318
you fucking chipped it
>>925903
God damn what kind of scope is that. I'd love to put that on my mauser sporter.
>>927841
Get a Lazzeroni if you can, sub moa at 700m with 180gr
>>928386
>Lazzaroni
Now there's a name I haven't heard pimped in over 20 years!
Made in AZ, closer to Tucson; again last I new.
>>928388
And 7000 dollars if you can find a rifle new
:^)
>>928391
Easily exceeds the point of diminishing returns.
I don't remember the price point in '95, less though.
>>928393
Yeah but how else are you going to get a 7.82 mm projectile weighing 180 gr to move at over 3400 FPS?
>>927318
What hath you done to the blade, heretic?
>>928396
.220 Swift and .264 Win Mag are as barrel burner as I want to get.
And I don't.
If I did, I'd .30-.378 Wea Mag.
And I don't.
>>928386
I'll keep it in mind. My shooting skills are not very advanced so I'm not taking 700m shots lol. My limit is roughly 200 meters if I'm gonna take a shot at a moose. We often post in places with short range. Pic related is a hunting post example. A lot of rifles will get the job done and I can get away with using a budget option if I want to save shekels.
>>925925
i just wanna huck a whole log on the fire
>>925925
That would gum up a chainsaw for good.
>>928682
mix a little diesel with the bar oil. helps if you're cutting through tarpaper too
>>928730
And creosote soaked railroad ties?
>>928849

Is this cool?

Try to ignore the fact that you can get a Gränsfors Bruk axe for half the price.
>>928918
>1/2$
Not to me?
I will pay for grade IV rifle stocks, but is the resale there?
No? Pay for your pride and vanity.
>mind virus
t. Curing a round of Indian Rosewood since 2013 for rifle stock blanks, free.
>>928345
> Thinking that chips in an axe blade actually matter.
I worked processing wood from 13-18 and met lots of tree surgeons and woodsmen, NEVER once saw a pristine perfectly honed axe blade. Only people who have those are people who dont /out/
>>927808
I have a 1980 Winchester m70 in 30-06. Incredibly accurate and not even a free floated barrel I strongly recommend one if you want a good rifle but cheap too. Get a used one over new, better quality and cheaper obviously
>>928918
here's show i feel about these fancy multitools. I love the idea of having such a beautiful tool, but i'd be reluctant to ever use it. The idea of having a "dressing up" multotool is kind of appealing, but i can really only justify the expense for like a best man gift or something
>>927318
Must be the light on the oil or something. The blade is fine
>>925903
what gun is this?
>>925904
Good lord does that say 4 gauge on the box? Makes my shoulder hurt just reading that.
>>928981
Not saying that it matters, we're saying how shitty you are that you chipped the axe almost the day you got it.

WRONG.
Stop thinking, please.
