I can only attest to what I have seen while driving through. Slovenias highways are meh, tho they have some beautiful mountains. But view I have seen driving from Klagenfurt towards Udine is godilke. I will also suggest taking a look at northen styria.

Got lost on my way to bled at some point and after a small village went through what must have been 10km of dirt road before getting back on the road just outside bled.
Most scenic road I've ever seen.

i live in the triglav national park. I’m familiar with about 50 mountains here (ascended them), and I worked at a tourist information center when i was a student. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

If you’ve got at least some experience in the 2000m+ mountains and can walk for 15 hours, you can easily ascend Triglav in summer.. Or you can sleep at Kredarica mountain hut, if you want to make it in 2 days.

If you’ll be here this winter or next, it’s best not to ascend mountains unless you’re very experienced or have climbed them before in summer. Julian Alps are predominantly made of limestone. There are lots of holes and caves you can fall into when they’re covered by snow in some areas. We have our own equivalent of the bermuda triangle.
