Hey Out, I heard of some caves that are near my area that id really like to explore but have never went into one before. Any tips and what kind of gear should I bring?

I'm also a little worried about animals hibernating in these caves right now because it just got bitch cold here. Valid concern or am I being paranoid?
>>
Knee pads, elbow pads, head lamp, whistle, bandana, spare head lamp, helmet, pee bottle.
>>
Keep in mind some caves are actually illegal to venture into because of bats. But for spelunking it's good to bring plenty of light sources. Specifically, a small handheld flashlight, a bigger, more powerful handheld, a hardhat with a mounted light, extra batteries for all, and a bunch of glow sticks. Use the glow sticks to mark your path back, since it is really easy to get lost in a cave. knee and elbow pads are nice, and a good pair of hard-knuckle gloves. First aid kit, of course, and a length of rope for emergencies. DO NOT climb or rappel unless you have the proper training and equipment, plus someone to belay. That also, bring someone with you. Caves can be dangerous as fuck, and you need someone to retrieve your corpse.
>>
>>912377
cool i have all of those things, should i expect to be confronted by an animal though?
>>
>>912379
these ones are legal for exploration as they are in a conservation area, theyre flat caves so i wont have to climb
>>
>>912382
sweet, you should be fine then. Have fun.
>>
Ear plugs. 12 gauge sawed off with buckshot. Knee pads. Cut proof gloves. Helmet. Good boots.

I do this shit on the reg. That is my typical loadout for a cave. If I plan on going underground or deep I will bring my pack with gatoaids and granola+nuts.
>>
>>912386
i have a 12 g but i'm a little worried about the legality of carrying a weapon in conservation area. even though its technically "closed" for the winter i feel like i could run into somone and be in big shit.
>>
>>912392
Depends on how well you know the area. Open carry is legal where I live so I can carry anything while exploring. If it is illegal where you live then carry a military trench spade. If you live in bear country don't go in without a slug gun. Anywhere else you will have bobcat/mountain lion. A trench spade will be sufficient.
>>
>>912417
I live in canada unfortunatly, not very gun friendly here
>>
>>912424
If you are in south Canada then you should be fine without a gun. Just be cautious
>>
>>912424
a big-ass bottle of pepper spray is good for bears if you really can't get a gun.
>>
>>912435
Bear/pepper spray is a meme. A bear with any adrenaline will kill you even if you have the most potent bear spray on the market. Bears rely on scent moreso than sight. All you are doing when spraying a bear is potentially blinding it. If you are in a cave then there is only one way to go. The bear will maul your ass. bring a gun or don't explore.
>>
>>912444
It's not a "meme," it's a legitimate form of defense. If you've ever been hit with pepper spray, you know it fucks up your nose just as badly as your eyes. A big cloud of that shit gets them confused and gives you an opportunity to escape.
>>
>>912450
I am very aware or its failures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tK609rbSBLs
I have also been sprayed by bear spray working in Nat park service as part of my duties. We are told to go for our slug gun before even touching bear spray. It is there to appease liberals.
>>
>>912470
>bear came from 80 yards
>As if anyone could react within that time
>If you link any evidence of being able to I will close the thread and never respond
Damn, liberals BTFO
>>
>>912473
I agree but this board will never agree with you. Most of the people on here are liberal scum. Mention carrying a gun on your /out/ings and you will summon a shitstorm of liberal hate.
>>
>>912435
what about the issue of using that within a confined space, don't i have a bigger chance of fucking myself up?
>>
>>912501
>>912470
Yes, you do. Carry a slug gun in bear country or don't go out in bear country.
>>
>>912503
This. A pissed off bear won't be stopped by bear spray. If you want top be a hippie then don't go /out/
>>
>>912515
>>912503
i'm not saying i want to bring bear spray fuck, i have a gun and would feel more comfortable going in with one but i don't want to get arrested, christ
>>
>>
>>912522
Then follow >>912417 advice. Leave cucknada or stay and get mauled when exploring your ancestor's caves.

Is this in a Provincial or National park? cause otherwise you're not going to run into someone with any authority to get you in shit. You might get dirty looks from nofunz but who gives a fuck.Carry no knife and a shot up tin can if you're really worried.
>>
Climax Cave, Climax, Kentucky. Haven't been into the second half of the cave yet, still a little weary of "The Maze". Rumor is that a group of teens got lost back there and died in the cave. I have a map but still really don't want to test it.
