As of tomorrow I'll be living in a rustic Wisconsin cabin. It has a wood stove for heat, no running water, an outhouse, a tin roof. It does have electricity, but a very limited supply. I'm staying at least a year, maybe more.
What do I need to know? Who else has lived in a rustic, oldschool cabin?
(pic related -- not the cabin, but it looks similar.)

So I have enough electricity to run a router and a laptop, but not much else on the circuit.
And for some fucking crazy reason the local rural phone company offers up to 125Mbps internet to that location. I checked. I think the area is part of some rural broadband expansion program. So I have to shit outdoors and bathe in melted snow, but I can download Blu-ray quality movies in 6 minutes, lol.

Living the dream. I don't have experience long term cabin living, but try to sleep up high for heat gains at night. My friend's cabin has a loft bed and it probably gets 15 degrees hotter up there than I keep my house during the winter.
Also you picked a bad time to move in if you're not from the area. It's cold as shit for December right now and I think we're supposed to get a ton of snow dumped on us this weekend.

Gets easier every year, patients is a virtue.
You will do well, youngman.

Oh I'm from a colder area than anywhere in Wisco. There are two lofts where you're supposed to sleep. I'll take advantage of that.

But are you from a place that drinks more than Wisconsin?

Pfft. No. Goddamn do I love the bar scene in Wisconsin. Even the gas stations (in non-shitty areas) carry 40 kinds of beer.
