My parents told me they're getting me a new sleeping bag for christmas and asked me to figure out what I'd want. What I currently own is a costco hand-me-down rectangular bag like pic related, which I believe is rated for 40F. I get cold easily and would like something warmer, 20F or lower.
I live in California and generally stay in the state when camping. Don't often go camping in the winter but wouldn't mind it being an option. I only go backpacking once in a blue moon when my friends convince me, but it'd still be nice to have something that packs up small. I'm also somewhat tall (6' 1"), if that makes a difference.
My parents are paying but I'd still rather not go too high with the price. What would /out/ recommend?
>cold
god damn californians. I was visiting by LA a few weeks ago and it was 68 and sunny, no clouds, and everyone was wearing winter clothes and bitching about it being cold.
Come to Oregon, the valley will make you want to die because its so fucking rainy.
Also down fill will pack away better while being warm. Use straps and you can pack it tighter. Go to a fucking store for brands.

I'm actually from Norcal but moved down to LA because I'm such a bitch when it comes to the cold.

I forgive you, I'm just jelly of the sunlight. I love OR but the 8-9 months of rain can get depressing. We have a sunny day finally, cant plan for the shit though
Also electric socks can warm you up a lot more than most people realise. Food for thought.

No problem friendo
I'd look into down quilts if you're looking to save weight. Lots of options out there.
