Lots of gifts should be coming this weekend so you fags better get out fishin.
Still waiting for help with the beginner guides on the Pastebin. I put a little saltwater one in there, but I want to do a river one possibly and trout. Skid typed up a saltwater guide so enjoy the autism.
Thinking about picking up a new hobby? Want to get a memecaster? Haven't mastered the Palomar knot? Click here!

Talk about fishin
anyone think bass pro is gonna do any more steep sales before Christmas? Or is Free Shipping going to be the best I can get?
I'm hoping to order some baits and get them delivered before Christmas actually arrives
>>908929
I'm more interested in what's going to happen sale wise when the gut cabelas. Hoping for some dank gun and fishing deals.
>>908932
Why would they gut cabelas? It would make more sense to me to just keep both stores open since some people prefer one to the other.
>>908900
Serious question but do QTs actually fish? All I ever come across are fat Mexicans and grandmas.
>>908942
Very rarely
>>908951
Yes the bought them a few months back.
>>908942
They pretend to fish.
>>908933
This is what I'm hoping happens. I love being 30 mins from cabelas.
what type of line should I put on my abu garcia ambassadeur 6500s ? I do surf fishing/fishing off rocks. Also how the fuck do I get rid of birds nests?
>>908980
>Wut line: 50# braid
>How to stop birds nest: get good
>>908969
Yeah go to the Buda one about 3 times a month or so.
>>908980
Noob here so take it as medicre advice.
When you cast, flip the bail manually and before doing any reel action, make sure the line leading to the spool is taught and make sure the line is on the bail on the right spot.
What I do is just cast, flip bail manually, and just pull the line, around the first eyelet, up and make sure everything looks okie dokie before I reel in.
Virtually it will never birds nest- I now get it before anything major happens.
>>908980
Also if you have any existing loops in your reel you'll have to unspoiled it until the loop part of the line is out. Usually I just have to do a far cast since I probably got the loop from a previous cast.
Once it's off the spool, reel in but with your fingers pinching the line as it comes in. You should be able to feel the bad part of the line. Make sure you untangled any knot if so, and just hold it taught as you reel in.
>>908986
>make sure the line is on the bail at the right spot
Line roller desu
>>908996
I love it, I drive up there look around for a bit and hit up the bargain bin for sweet deals. then I stop at the HEB in Kyle on the way back for groceries.
>>909014
the abu garcia in question is a conventional reel. I was trying to cast but kept getting birds nests so I gave up and went back to my sedonia....
>>909020
Are you using it for lures or soak bait?
>>909020
I've never used a conventional feel, but I would say just be smooth and feather the spool. Spinning reels are a lot more forgiving when you try and muscle the cast. With casting reels you have to let the rod do most of the work. At least that's how it is with bait casters I would assume it would apply to conventional reels too.
I'm thinking of buying a new rod and reel for lake bass fishing. I currently have a 6' med-light rod and it's not really ideal for heavier lures and jigs. Should I get a medium or a medium heavy rod, and what length?
>>909027
Go at least 6'6", it will def help with casting. And you have to try stuff out because sometimes you can get a M with nice fast action that can flick 1/4oz lures well and won't flex like crazy with a 1oz jig. On the other hand certain MH rods can weigh a lot and won't cast light stuff for shit and just suck if you are running anything <3/4oz. But it varies by brand. There are some MH rods made for bass fishing that still work well with lighter stuff while a MH from another brand might be like a catfish rod.
>>909027
Just look at the suggested lure weight on the rod there's a overlap of M-MH depending on brand.
I would definitely go with a 7' or a little longer. And a faster action if you want to run more jigs or lures with single hooks.
>>909023
I was trying to throw a softbait shad with a jig head on it. I target surfperch so I usually use gulp worms on a Carolina rig.
7'3" MH F
Daily reminder that skid is a furry and he wants to become a humanoid dog.
>>909044
>surfperch
stick with the spinning reel. much easier in the wind and casts lighter lures further.
>>908900
i wish i had a gf to fish with
>>909058
i wish i had a gf
>>909058
>>909064
I wish I had fish
>>909059
I learned the hard way, I use a shimano sedona 2500 on a 7 foot and okuma avenger 65 on a 12 foot bluefin rod. I slay with those two but the fucking conventional reel is infuriating.
>too cold to fish with poles
>not cold enough to make good ice
Ice fishing soon though. Who else here ice fishes?
>>909069
I hav a couple different setups but my favorite length is 9ft6. Use a light action in that length with a 2500 quantum smoke pt inshore
>>909072
>2500 quantum smoke pt inshore
Damn that looks nice, what type of rod? I would use that reel but its expensive as fuck, usually I try to only spend like 100 on a reel.
>>909071
me
>>909058
>>909064
I wish you both had gf's so you'd stfu about it already and realize gf's are a waste of time.
You think you'll fish more having a gf? You think having to carry a five gallon bucket around every time you go bank fishing so she can have a place to pee without squatting is fun? you think a bitch on the rag in the woods is fun? you think she's going to buy her own fishing gear? you think a gf is going to be happy at 5am sitting in your truck when the coffee kicks in and you start farting? you think your gf is going to like a can of redbull and a microwave burritos from am/pm for breakfast 2 days in a row?
Dont wish for a gf. Its a curse. they have a tendency to shorten your fishing times and often cost way more than expected. Its better to invest in more fishing gear and new 10" fish finder for the boat. jus sayin'
>>909071
I'm patiently waiting. Won't be too long now
>>909078
That smoke reel is super fucking nice I like it more than my shimano stradic which is my only other reel in that price range. I've abused it pretty bad and it still holds up well.
As far as my argument for spinning gear goes, it's mostly that I see no advantage to using a conventional. Harder to cast in wind plus birds nests as a possibility, not to mention that the pricing of conventional reels is less attractive. You can get a great spin reel for less than a hundred bucks but my understanding is that conventional reels this is not the case. Given the constant year round wind when surf fishing I don't think there are very many days I could cast farther with a conventional
>>908951
uh, we already discussed this, where were you?
They won't close Cabela's.
>tfw skid inhales dog farts and jacks off
>>909081
This. So much this.
>>909096
You seem jealous. Spend a lot of time thinking about and commenting on Skid, you do...
>>909081
Most of this is correct except for your negative attitude. If you really like the girl it's ok if you fish a little less ya dingus, sounds like you were in a relationship you shouldn't have been in.
Completely agree with the rest tho if you bring a girl fishing enjoy rigging all her tackle and spending more time helping her than actually fishing yourself
I wonder if anon will get his package today
Fuck
>>908900
Okay guys this is a noice one too but the other was maximum qt
gw though
>>909141
Ded tooth girl?
There is probably moar of her
>>909145
And here was the other one without text
>>909121
>sounds like you were in a relationship you shouldn't have been in.
My wife wont let me have a gf..
>>909068
>>909064
>>909058
ask your gf if it's okay I leave some bait in the fridge..
>>909148
Why the fuck do you have a school of perch in your fridge
>>909148
Haha holy shit that's incredible. My mom used to freak out when I put nightcrawlers in her fridge.
>>909145
noice
Do fish still populate small creeks or have they moved downstream into larger rivers / lakes around this time?
Damn got the first part of my secret santa package but can't open it until the second delayed one gets here. With my luck it probably won't be til late next week.
Why is God so cruel???
>>909148
>live bait tank in the fridge..
My wife tolerates a lot but somehow I don't think that will fly
>>909148
Maybe he's keeping them to eat, can't get fresher than that.
>>909184
I was hoping you would have a gift by this weekend too but standard Fedex sucks. They really bounce those packages around. I gotta say I do like USPS for packages because Priority and First Class are both cheap and realtively quick, like 3-4 days at the most and they deliver on Saturdays.
I think UPS has been working Sundays though. At least that rod got delivered last Sunday.
Catch two cod this morning. After the first one my lure i lost the other day floated to the top. Fucker ripper. Then I reel in again and feel a dead weight. Hooked onto my spinner bait i lost. Two fish and two recovered lures. fucking perla.
Great way to spend a few hours. definitely gona go out before dawn again tomorrow. maybe to a little creek
>>909176
Enjoy your saltwater only lures Pepsi. No salt X raps or gulp, you got lures that only work in the salt.
>>909195
Why all the MH?
I still say it totally depends on the rod because there are plenty of M rods with real fast action that I would take if I were casting all around bass lures and not a dedicated 3/4oz+ setup
>>909200
There's some sort of soft plastic in there that I can feel
>>909200
3oz Kastmaster4lyfe
>>909203
Most of it is pompano jigs and goofy jigs. Also plastic shrimp.
>>909206
Damn I didn't even open it yet
I bet bass will take the shrimp kek.
>>909206
>>909208
And the package I sent to my person is dragging ass too. It was supposed to be there today but never said "Out For Delivery" so hopefully it will at least get out there tomorrow.
I should spool up the memecaster and get out early tomorrow. I was actually hoping I could work tomorrow and make a few extra dollhairs before Christmas but looks like nobody is gonna be there.
>>909187
That's fine, I probably won't be doing any fishing this weekend anyway because of finals next week. I did get some nice stuff from my local tackle shop today.
>Scatter rap on clearance $3.99
>jointed rebel 2.99
>some grubs, jigheads, some new plastics.
>>909121
mfw my girl can tie a bimini twist
>>909215
That gold Scatter Rap on the left is a good 'un. I have the same one in a Size 7 or 8.
>>909216
Your hand doesn't count anon
>>909218
That is a size 7. Glad to hear it works well. It was the only color in the clearance bin.
>>909222
Yeah Dick's kept having sales on those since a lot of em are getting discontinued and I ended up buying like 7 or 8. Good action and they don't dive too deep which is nice from shore.
For some reason the Mayans always attack those things even though they have trouble taking the whole thing down. Not sure why they go so crazy but it would be cool to find a #3-4.
>tfw when 20 off and free shipping
Just got my st croix triumph surf rod
Finally a complete set of spinning rods. UL, light, and medium. Got the rod in the middle for $25 today, already had the reel for it. 7' light action Shakespeare "micro series". Gonna try it out tomorrow.
>>908900
Picked these up today because I cant go into walmart without buying something fishing related. I really have a problem. I need to get back out on the water and lose or destroy some shit to make room in my tackle box.
>>909242
I really like the colors on those, but they sink like rocks.
>>909220
Alas, my hand cannot tie a bimini. That's why my girl does it for me.
>>909199
Lucky cunt mate, got to the poon late last night and found the Darling here hasn't been affected by either tannin or flood and rejoiced. Heard fish boofing all over the place so we stayed up to 3am flicking surface lures to no avail. Mate caught 2 carp today and something big busted me off in a snag. Sitting here on my phone drinking beer now cause the fishing has died out the arse.
>>909244
The blue wolf ones? I really dont even care they were a little over a dollar a spinner.
>>909265
Thats one thing I like about walmart. They have those ugly ass cranks that are like 2.75 a pop... plus their clearance shit.
>>909251
Good shit man. Good to hear that river's doing alright down there.
Good luck with the fish.
Also, not that lucky. My good pliars went in the drink. Works gonna suck for the next few days till I can pick up another pair.
>>909272
Had so many people tell me not to bother as it would be black and full of hundreds of dead Cod like Rod Mckenzies vid he did a week ago just an hours drive from here in Wentworth, where I'm at the river is almost a full cast wide and flowing like crazy so that probably saved it. Hopefully we can get a Cod before Monday.
>>909282
Yeah. THere was plenty of dead fish around these parts apparently. I'm still at 6 for the season. So they're not all dead.
Aiming for a century this season.
>>909071
minnesota here. wont be long
im a bit new to in line reels. does anyone know what this is for? can't figure it out and can't find much information on it
>>909318
spool tensioner?
>>909318
bait alarm.
>>909318
Probably a spool tensioner. Tighten it up with a lure in the line then freespool it. As you loosen it should fall slower and slower. If it's not that I'd might be a bait runner
How much technique difference will there be when switching to a 6'7ft rod from a 5'6 (or there abouts) rod? Memecaster, of course.
WIl the extra foot or so bring a good few yards to my casting range?
Also going from a light rod to a very heavy one meant for flicking heavy and large lures.
>>909329
err. 7'6 rod. not 6'7
>>909329
>>909336
yeah you should gain some yardage with the longer rod. one meant for flicking large lures isnt really made for more distance, theyre usually stiffer blanks. if thats what youre flicking then sure, but a medium weight one will be more versatile and probably get more use.
>>909339
I've got a catana 510bc that I use every day. It does me fine until I get up in weights. Too light for trolling the big lures too.
Guess I'm spending $600 on a rod soon.
>>909306
I'm hoping for A fish at this point. Was having a powernap in the swag 5 minutes ago and felt something heavy step on my foot, woke up and saw this cheeky cunt looking at me through the mesh netting on the end of my swag and nearly screamed like a little bitch. I was tired as fuck but awake now, gonna cook up a feed and get ready to flick some surface lures around soon.
>>909341
I have a phenix inshore that I like a lot for big swimbaits. and it works good for rockfish, calicos and yellowtail also.
the diawa zillion swimbait rod is nice. used to have one of those for a bit.
>tfw probably gonna rain for 3 months straight
>>909343
you eat those?
>>909354
whered you see that?
>>909355
Aboriginals do, would eather stay away from Goannas myself and leave them be. Claws like razorblades and like most big lizards, enough bacteria in their mouth to make large cattle die of toxic shock within 24 hours.
>>909357
>/pol/
>>909353
can't seem to find any online in Aus. Which sucks.
how much of a difference will there be between a light and a medium light rod in terms of casting distance?
i'm looking for something that can really get some good distance behind 1/16oz jig heads with a small plastic on em but can also handle shit up to say 1/3oz
should i also look into a slower action than fast for this?
Meet me at the Juno pier next summer Pepsi
>I don't have a snook winch!
I've got you covered
Ice season almost amirite?
>>909215
Those on the right. I have a green redtail and grey redtail. The grey got its tail bit off lol. I like em
>>908900
When's everybody going to post pics of their gifts?
>>909427
I think Txfag is the only one who got his. I got half of mine but don't want to open it til the second part is here. Person I bought for was supposed to get it yesterday but USPS being an homo. Pic related.
>>909371
You just have to find a rod with an action that really matches up with that weight. It takes some trial and error. Line makes a much bigger difference.
For 1/16oz up to 1/3oz, you probably want lighter line with something like a M rod with medium action or a ML rod.
>>909430
My second package is at my post office, but not "Out For Delivery" which worries me. I wonder if I could just go over there and snatch it so I don't have to wait til Mon. My mail normally comes late tho, like 4:00-5:00 so maybe it could still go out.
>tfw babby penn Z
I've been using this thing for pompano and bass for a few months now and I still love it. I upgraded the shitty leather drag to ht 100 washers I got from ebay. The only thing that sucks is that it has a 4:1 gear ratio.
>There's fucking nothing inside
I don't think a more simple spinning reel exists. I've dropped my Z in the sand and took it right back out after 15 minutes of cleaning.
>one of the few old reel to literally go back into production because they're so good
>built to last a lifetime
If you're a surf guy you need Penn Z.
>712z for 7 or 7'6" rods
>710z for 8-9 rods
>704z for 10-11 rods
>706z for 11+ rods
>slotted 710 ghetto Van Staal
>the real Van Staals were inspired by these
Guy at the post office promises it will go out today. I'm not sure I believe him.
>>909430
Just saw that too. Shits gay as fuck.
A FedEx truck pulled in this morning and I got excited but then I remembered it was coming by the post office
>mfw
>>909454
Sorry there is no ice fishing stuff
>>909454
Shit mang, looks like it actually made it to your local PO. Maybe they will send it out today. Or go over there and demand it like I was thinkin about trying for my package.
>>908969
>>908985
wasup hillcountry fags. Moving back to Galveston soon going to miss Hill of Life daily with my dog. About to go there now.
How long does it take for a safe layer (3-4") of ice to build on a lake? We've been pretty consistently below freezing here, next week we're experiencing lower 20, single digits and low negatives. I don't want to step out on the ice and die
>>909463
Oh and once I get back to the coast I am going to start surfing and fishing again. All my friends have boats, I'm going to get a kayak and hit the jetties for sharks I guess. Fuck buying a boat.
>>909464
I usually wait until I see a good amount of other people out there. Every year some dumbass falls through because they go out too early. Can't imagine will be much longer hear it's going to be in between 20-35 all through next week and beyond so it should start forming quick
>>909443
Post a link to the updated washers. All this shilling has me wanting to use some of my disposable income to get a 704z
>>909465
but you already have one of the best boats possible
a friends boat
>>909478
The more recent 704z's have ht 100 drag washers. I also put Cal's drag grease on mine.
>>909462
>tfw you might actually get it today
Mine isn't even out for delivery yet and it is noon.
>>909487
It'll be here in a few hours.
What's the deal with the packages anyway are we just opening them right away or are we waiting?
>>909489
Nah just open it when you get it.
Wut line?
>>909499
20# power pro super slick or gtfo
Ok my granddad is dead and buried so I finally got a chance to sit down and make a box so I can send skids gift.
Pepsi has the tracking #
>>909501
I got #40 in SuperSlick. I have a brand new 300yd spool of 30lb SpiderWire that I might throw on there. Otherwise I know I have some 15lb PowerPro that I spooled up for like a day on some reel and took it off and I'm not sure where that is because it is so hard to tell the difference by looking at it.
>>909463
Freezing my dick off and hoping to get some time to fish.
>>909508
I use #10 on my set up shit casts a mile with light tackle.
>>909499
P-Line makes some green flouro you should put on there
>too cold to fish from the boat
>too warm to ice fish
Just spent the whole morning cleaning and lubing for the spring
I just wanna fish :(
>>909511
I was thinking about flouro but for now I'm just gonna run the #20 PowerPro and see how it goes.
>tfw out for delivery
Then I can actually open this shit up!
New rod all spooled. Feels like xmas. Anybody else getting their stuff yet? I'm suprised TXfag and 1/2 of my order are the only ones to arrive.
Trying to decide if I should go fish or not. It's pretty chilly.
>>909548
Yeah we got hit by that cold front and it is all windy but cloudy and nice so I need to get out there. I just spooled up that reel but I want that other Yuro package to show up.
>>909548
I'm about ready to call up a buddy and see if he wants to hit up the river or a tank.
About to go out fishin and can't wait for the 2/2 package so here we go.
Yuro told me it was all saltwater stuff. Damn commies.
Looks like there is still a Yo-Zuri Pins Minnow and a big Zara Spook comin. Thanks mang. Merry Chaunkkgahah
>>909514
>too cold to fish from the boat
>too warm to ice fish
I grew a beard over the past 6 months specifically to fish in the winter off the bank. I'll be going out in January when it is the coldest and nastiest weather.
Anybody ever use this Frenchie brand? I kinda like this thing because it reminds me of some Rapalas I have done really well with. Only difference is it doesn't rattle so supposed to be good for finesse presentations and could work well in the summer when the heat is on.
>>909564
I have #30 on the Silver Max. I did #20 on the Lew's. If anything, I might try #10-#15 on the Revo because that seems to be the smallest and lightest reel.
>>909571
work it like a blade bait. doesnt have the thump that a rattletrap has.
>>909580
>>909571
That thing is cool. I bet the Mayans will attack it too.
>tfw no saltwater rigs
:^(
Do y'all think it would be worth throwing a top water? Or should I just use s big swimbait?
>tfw making an army of inline spinners
Once I'm done, I'll have about 100 and they will cost about $1.31 each to make. I'm currently waiting for new feathers to arrive.
>>909463
If I do all of that zen shit will it help me catch the fishes?
>>909564
If I was worried about you knowing I wouldn't have sent a card with it.
>>909585
I need to start making my own. But I want to get quality blades and stuff because it seems to make a huge difference. Some days I can run a Rooster Tail or other cheaper inline for hours and not get a single bite. Then I tie on a Mepps and get like 5 fish.
And fuck these postal workers. They need to get out there earlier. At least that 2nd package for me is out for delivery because I was expecting it to take a bit longer to ship when it said it wasn't in stock.
>>909564
I was thinking about posting the un-edited matches but I'll wait for a couple more people to get their stuff.
>tfw just spent another $100 at Dick's and none of it is fishin stuff for me
They had a code for $20 off a $100 order but of course it can't be used on any popular clothing like TNF but I had another $10 one that came in the catalog and worked.
>>909597
Yes, the blades are very important. French blades are best for inline spinners. Each blade type is best with certain lures. Like willow blades for spinner lures but not inline spinners. I've been using spring tempered wire bought in bulk and having the right tools to work it is essential. Mine use wires thicker than most (0.045"), the max the parts will allow through them. Don't use anything plated. Get solid metals like brass and stainless steel.
I'm making mine with a split ring so I can change the hook to whatever I want; including single hook + plastic grub. That alone help a great deal with finicky fish.

That wasn't me meme positing how its all salt tho.
How you know whats in the other package, ohh right, the bill is in the first one right? Now you have the prices too baka.
How you like it? I was gonna get salt stuff, but getting a salt lure or rap wouldn't make a useful gift from what i gather.
Hows the toads and worms? (at least you like the sebile, which was initially the joke lure lol)
Sebile softies are gaining traction in Yuro.
Do take a pic of the other two. I know the pins is a killer lure, and unfortunately you have others similar to the zara...
Can we ban skid for being an autistic furry? This guy legit wants to fuck dogs.
>>909603
I'm more of an image person than a guide-writing person.
>>909616
in case you didn't realize no one here cares except for you
talk bout fishin
>>909618
I found skid.
>>909612
Yeah I saw the Pins Minnow and Zara Spook. Those are two lures I have looked at multiple times and almost bought but the Yo-Zuris I always end up waiting until they go on sale because they are expensive.
I'll def use those worms, that's a good color. And I like running those Horny Toads with a 4/0 EWG and no weight and I will get them on top of thick weed beds. You did gud.
Just got a text that the 2nd one got delivered so I will open that when I get home.
>>909626
pins minnow is the shiiiiit
>>909617
Yeah, pastebin is kinda lame desu, we should focus on making infographics. Good infographics for fishing do not exist from what I have seen except for those picture charts of the different jig head rigs
No. 8 blackout rods are on sale on TW for $55-60 so if anyone's been wanting one you might wanna grab one.
>mail still hasn't come
>>909652
It better.
I'm not gonna lie, today is not the best day to try out a brand new memecaster. It is windy as fuck. Plus it is lefty and 7.1:1.
>tfw 22 and realize I'm too old for this website now and fishing general is all that's left for me
I mean I started browsing 4chan when I was 16 but now it seems 90% of posters are 16-19 that take nothing seriously and can't go 2 seconds without saying faggot or autist or cuck.
So are there any decent fishing forums?
>>909664
Yeah /b/ is just awful and lots of the other boards are 17 year old kids who know better than everybody else and think they understand how the whole world works even though they don't even pay their own cell phone bill.
>>909626
Unfortunately the pins is too light for me to cast with my heavy ass salt gear. I was gonna get another yozuri hardbait, because the color was just amazing but tackledirect didnt have it.
The zara i heard a lot of good things about it for blue and seabass so it made for a good topwater.
Good, the toads were funky and they were a part of my initial plan, and i gambled on the worms.
Glad it worked out fine, notsure about the pins and zara colore tho. Do let me know and post a pic.
>>909678
I aint complaining. I appreciate it all.
Just had a bass or somethin on and he wasn't fighting too hard until I got him close to shore. Felt decent and then saw me and took off and busted the 8lb flouro leader real quick. Fuck. All like the best fish I hook at this lake seem to jump off.

you can put light crank baits/spoons on the end of a carolina rig my man. I've used my yo zuri pins minnow as well as small kastmasters with a carolina rig. 1/2 - 1oz egg sinker, 2-3ft leader
>>909698
for cranks they kind of have to be suspending or floating, not sinking
>>909674
Was ranting about another board. Haven't browsed b in years. But the point still stands. Even boards like o and diy are turning to shit.
>>909692
Yeah kinda. It's a small one near my house and if I go there at dusk I can normally get a few 12"-14" largemouth. I have gotten some nicer fish there but the few really nice bass I have hooked there (4lb+ fish) always seem to jump off the hooks. But I do get a handful of 16"+ fish there, especially in the cooler months.
I'm goin home now tho. These shifty and gusty winds are a pain in the ass. I actually had a lot of bites in the hour or so I was there and should've landed at least two but the one snapped the line when he saw me and took off and the next one (probably 15") jumped and threw the hook.
>>909700
Yeah /b/ is cancerous and from there I went to /mu/ for like two weeks expecting musicians but it is a bunch of kids pretending to be music critics. And then /o/ and /out/ have been my main boards which aren't as bad but /o/ has a ton of 17-19 year olds.
>>909664
The only fishing forum I know outside of this one is a California based site that is mostly geared towards saltwater but has an off topic section where people talk about fishin reservoirs and stuff. A lot of old people on there so it's definitely a different feel from 4chan. It's also incredibly slow, there's maybe ten people that post regularly and it's broken up into multiple threads so it seems even slower. That's what I like about Fishing General, all the fishing discussion on 4chan is funneled into one place so you actually get conversations going.
Damn Yuroniggerfan went all out.
I'm stoked on those other two. I thought that Pin's Minnow was going to be smaller and mainly for panfish but this one is 3.5" which will be great. And I have been looking for a good black topwater lure for fucking months and the only thing I have seen are those cheap Strike King Banshee poppers so I didn't even get it.

Looks like Anon finally got his. I thought my mail delivery over here was late as hell at like 4pm.
What did you get mang?
Thanks for the meme baits peps. Preciate ya
>>909719
Yeah buddy. Those X-Raps are GOAT. And Mepps needs no introduction although I really wanted to order that yellow and orange blade one for myself. I figured the bigger guys for decent LMB and then the smaller ones for panfishin, picky bass, or smaller pike.
Have you used the X-Raps at all yet? What about Mepps? I never know because you post as Anon.
>tfw now I have to figure out where I can cram these hard baits.
Mine is delivered already but packages go to the housing office and somebody has to pick them up and take them to the hall I live in and send me an email to come pick it up. Should only be another hour or so.
>>909722
If you can afford that many lures, you should buy a few more planos to keep them in. I'd kill myself if I had to deal with that many treble hooks stuck together (or having to take off and put on rubber bands like you have).
>>909722
Yeah I have variations of both already. Luckily the colors you picked are ones I don't have so it worked out perfect. Thanks again dude
>>909725
The rubberband trick is GOAT and it takes 3 seconds to put them back on.
I would buy more boxes but my bag only holds 4-5 3700 boxes. And I have 5 3700 boxes in there and a 3600 stacked on top so the lit barely closes.
I also already have another 3700 with just saltwater stuff and if I need that I will put it on top of the bag with the strap sorta holding it in place.
>inb4 bigger bag
This thing already weighs a ton and anything larger is a boat bag.
>>909728
Noice. Those bright bladed Mepps kill it on certain days so have fun. And that smaller X-Rap, the "Gold" color, has been my best producing hard bait. I was gonna get the Size 10 in the same color too but I figured you might want variety instead.
>>909732
I can see why you would want your gear to be more compact if you take all your boxes with you. I just throw what I think I'm going to use into a 3.5X7" box and work with that, all my big planos stay at home.
>>909735
what size line do you use for the smaller one? I only have one other small hard bait like that that I have only used a few times and I always have trouble casting it because they are so light
also this is going to be my trip now since skid already knows me as this
>>909723
Sweet. So I think you will be #4 of 7, right?
Me, TXfag, NY Anon, and you so far. So we still have Skid, Zuriss, and Yuro to go.
Skid got his tracking # so idk when his will get there, Zuriss had his shipped a bit later in the week so we'll see, and then Yurofan works on Yuro time but hopefully he has his within the next couple days.
Maybe I'll post who got who when you get your package. For those left, it isn't too hard.

>>909736
Damn, did you order those online?
I have been looking around for more small creature or bug type baits that can go on a 1/32oz or 1/16oz jighead but there is a real lack of them. Most of it I see in store is just 1.5" curly tail grubs but sometimes the Mayans and other cichlids are picky and won't take stuff like that but will attack little nymph lookin stuff on a tiny jighead.
>>909741
whoops
>>909741
10lb PowerPro works great for those 2"-3" ones which are probably 1/8oz-1/4oz. Anything lighter than 1/8oz I like to throw on the 6lb braid (which unfortunately is SpiderWire Stealth Braid).
10lb braid on a ~2000 size spinning reel with a M rod that isn't too beefy can be a great setup. It will handle 1/2oz+ lures and some big bass but can still be fun with 1/8oz baits and fesity panfish.
I have 10lb braid on that Okuma Stratus V 25 (so next size above a UL) and it is on a 6' Berkley Lightning Rod Shock and that thing has caught everything from smaller Mayans up to bigger bass and snakeheads.
>>909742
Bro get the eurotackle anisoptera soft plastic you won't regret it. Just order enough packs to make shipping worth it
>>909750
>>909747
You gotta find some suffix #6. 8 strands like super slick power pro but still small as shit. I use this reel on a 6' light rod. Think that'd be fine? It's a little short but I can't imagine it would be worse then my 6'6' medium
>>909750
Yeah I saw those but I just don't care enough. I normally don't break out the UL until I have been going for bass for a couple hours with absolutely zero action.
At Walmarts a lot of times they have this box full of assorted small Yum soft plastics and I have found a couple of interesting things in there but most of them are still 1.5"-2".
>>909743
Is this NY Anon?
>>909754
IDK you buy a shit ton of tackle seems silly not to get them if you are legit looking for bug style creature baits for 1/64 - 1/16th oz jigheads
I can vouch I bought 2 colors of each style. The ones that have worked well are the anisoptera and the shrimp
>>909747
>>909743
>>909741
I also use 6lb spiderwire braid for anything less than ~1/8oz
Does anyone know of any other brands of 6lb braid? I think the problem that Pepsi notes with fraying is because spiderwire is a non-coated braid. For me it seems less like fraying and more like unraveling if any line twist is going on
>>909664

Bass Resource
Pretty much the only active forums I know of and post on. Texas Fishing Forum is great. It's not just about Texas. Lots of posters from around the country there.
>>909753
Nah I'm sure that would be straight. I just like that 6' medium Lightning Rod because I can cast 1/2oz lures on it if I want. Plus the 25 size reel doesn't feel as odd as some UL's. I have the Sienna 500 with 6lb braid and that thing is tiny and just feels strange.
UL rods, like all others, can vary though. But if yours is just a L, it might be a little better. Some UL rods are seriously made for <2lb mono and buckle on anything more than 1/16oz and they are kinda useless unless you use them for a very specific type of fishing.
But yeah I will def try and find Suffix instead of SpiderWire next time but SpiderWire was the only brand Bass Pro had lower than 10lb.
>>909755
I hate ordering stuff online anyway. Maybe I will search a bit more next time I'm at Bass Pro or Gander Mtn. Pic related are all pretty recent purchases and the dink bass love those chartruese things but I haven't used any of the tiny shads yet.

Yeah I got them from Dick's. They have that color as well as dull orange and chartreuse. Definitely worth trying.
Got my gift just now. Couple of bass jigheads, some big grubs, some worms, and a mepps. I might not be able to get much use out of some of these until spring, but I'll fish the mepps soon and let you know if I get anything. Thanks a bunch.
Also the front desk attendant asked me why the name on my package said Cali Fag. Hilarious.
Man I hate winter. Only got one bite and missed the hook set.
>>909686
Ah cool. I'll probably go just because I won't have anything else to do.
>>909775
I'd say, yes, they are worth it. You don't spend that much money for anything "average" in design or function. You need to be a serious enthusiast. Do you tie?
I've been growing my own night crawlers for fishing but was thinking of turning this into a small side business.
I already know how to grow worms so could expand and I've found cheap wholesale cups and lids online. How would I go about selling them? I also know some farmers use worms to feed chickens. How do I get in touch with these organic farmers?
I grow worms in those half height tote boxes made to slide under beds you buy at Wal-Mart and fill it with organic non-fertilized potting soil. Then I just cut out a piece of carpet to place on top of it. I always water it every day to keep it damp. When you lift the carpet up there will be a ton of worms at the top. I'll buy a 50lb bag of chicken feed for $10 at the farming supply store and put a cup or 2 full of it under the carpet every day or two and water it down really good. I got holes at the bottom for drainage.
I got 1 tote right now, but could probably upgrade to 50 at the most. There's nothing to it besides watering the carpet and throwing feed under it. Haven't ever had any pest issues yet.
A single tote could probably comfortably grow about 7,000 worms at a time. At 50 totes, that would be 350,000 worms I'd be selling.
Figured it would be a unique side business to run. Anybody else growing worms?
>>909775
I made a 6ft tenkara rod from a strip of bamboo wood, it's really nice for fishing creeks and lake shores for sunfish and micro fish. One time I was fishing for bluegill with a live mosquitofish (tiny baitfish), and hooked a 3/4 lb bass. Heck of a fight. I'd probably buy one of the professionally made ones if I had more streams, creeks, small rivers near me.
>>909774
You are just being an example of why this website has turned to shit. I'm guessing you browse Reddit more than any of us and only hate on it on 4chan because you always get downvoted.
>>909780
The Homegrowmen thread may be a good place to ask, but I'm a homegrowmen...
Look up all the farmer's markets and people who are selling eggs. Face-to-face connections are what you need to make. They are a finicky lot and you would need to make sure the stuff you feed the worms is also organic. Though some may not care at all about that.
As for selling as fishing bait, go to the stores and look at the companies who are selling the worms to the stores. Call them up and ask how to sell directly to them. Just as the managers of the stores that don't sell worms already and sell to them.
Other good invertebrates to grow for chickens and fishing,
Redworms (Eisenia fetida)
Black Soldier Fly larva (Hermetia illucens)
Fly maggots (Calliphoridae) [starve them before feeding to chickens!]
Mealworms (Tenebrio molitor)
>>909780
You normally use mealworms for chickens as a treat. They don't realy like night crawlers. Not sure how you would go about selling them, maybe ask local bait shops.
>>909763
Kek. Have you read his fly fishig guide yet? I haven't, way too long.
>>909769
What does that have to do with anything? I just hate fishing in crowded places. And if there is anywhere worse than a crowded spot full of regular people, it's a crowded spot full of minorities.
>>909776

>>909777

>>909778
I love the winter. They were actually hitting bretty gud today but the wind just killed me.
>>909780
Seems like the best route would be to find small business around local fishing spots. Corner stores and shit. If they already carry worms, try and beat their price.
If you could make some startup money, the best way to do it would be if you could buy some of those small glass door fridges. Steal some Starbucks fridges from Pepsi. Start growing the other stuff too like waxworms, meal worms, crickets, etc. Then you go to these tackle shops, corner shops near fishing spots, and pet stores and you loan them the fridge while they are selling your product.
>>909789
They need to be chopped up for the chickens. You are correct, they tend to ignore them for some reason for the most part.
And, with mealworms you can slow down their growth using polystyrene for their food source. That and refrigeration can help you store them and keep them alive. Of course, all those in >>909788 can be frozen for use later as chicken feed.
>>909788
I was intending to grow red worms yes. I just call all worms night crawlers. I'm from the south.
>>909777
Btw those pink worms, are those the longer ones like the Zoom Trick Worms?
Those are nice for bigger bass because of how they dangle and twitch when you have the head in the dirt.
And I've been curious about those Agila Brites. I think that little bead is supposed to be UV or something. I have almost jumped on them a few times but I just like dressed inlines so much.
>>909795
Bare hook inlines are for panfish and trout normally. Dressed stuff lands you larger fish. Of course the smaller you get with the lure the less that is true.
You can always cut the hook's eye to remove it, add your own split ring, and be able to use a bare hook or dressed hook.
>>909798
It may be the breed of chicken. some of mine eat them, and some don't seem to see them, like they are invisible to them.
>>909801
They are all Black astrolorps so that might be it.
>>909800
Part of my ongoing want for the inline spinner shit is that I also want to learn how to tie flies. I want to be able to make some dressed inlines with bright colored blades (which are hard to find) and then I want to do some with offset worm hooks and attempt to run them weedless.

>>909807
It's the same here for me. I just use about 12' of line and swing it out to where I want. Lets me pull in 20 or so perch in an hour so I can run trot lines.
>>909802
Oh, I'm getting 40-50 of those next year.
>>909803
That's exactly what I'm doing with mine. Die cut tape is the cheap way to go. Powder coated or air brushed are more professional, but they requires a larger outlay of money to start.
If you do get into it and use split rings, get a pair of split ring pliers. I'm still finding split rings that shot in random directions when I didn't have the proper tool for them.
>>909815
I came up with a method to use the rod like a trebuchet and slingshot together where I can flip the line along the pole into narrow spaces.
>>909818
Hold the bait then pull till the rod ends back then aim for a spot under an over hang.
Also B. A.s are an awsome breed you are going to love their eggs. Such large creamy yokes that it looks like hollandaise sauce when you scramble them.
>>909821
I live in a temperate rain forest, so finding open spots from the bank is rare. Edges of pasture land is the best if you don't have a boat. Sometimes you can climb out on a large overhanging tree and get more than a jigging position.

Welp fishing trip sucked ass, traveled 600km round trip and only ended up with 6 Carp and sunburn so we went home a day early. To console myself I stopped at a tackle store on my way home and bought myself an early christmas present and my first quality combo: a Shimano Curado reel and a 6' 10-17 pound Samaki Rod. Haven't fished it yet but practiced flicking a few lures on it when I got back and am already in love.
Deni anon not sure if you were after a baitcaster but I got that combo for $405 and for such a heavy duty rod it's thin as hell and can still flick around the size 3 StumpJumpers no worries as well as heavy 20ft diving Oargees. Can't wait to take this up to Deniliquin soon.
>>909970
Cheers bro. I'll check it out. Still trying to track down the average weights of these big sub/surface lures I'm looking at. maybe up to 3oz.
My little shimano catana 510 (3-6kg, iirc) flicks the oargee's alright. Just not so crash hot trolling them.
Sucks about your weekend. Were the carp fighters at least?
You'll need the big rod. Been two 120cm cod pulled out in the last two weekends. Not by me unfortunately.
Curada's go for about $250 right? Rod seems like it might be a cheaper option than the $600 wilson venom swimbait.
>>909976
Ah well, you always get some shit trips with the good aye.
If you're after a spin get a Shimano Stradic, bloke who fixed my car is an avid Cod fisherman and he spent $500 on a Stradic and an Abu Garcia Black Diamond Rod for his new setup, guy really knows his fishing as much as he does cars so I trust any advice he gives, was going to get the Stradic but decided my Daiwa reel is rooted and I need a new baitcaster more than a spin. Carp were average but 1st night my mate reeled in a fat 70cm Carp, he was so excited thinking it was a Cod you should have seen his face when he landed it, was devo. Curado was $299, could have gotten it cheaper online maybe but it was a spur of the moment buy. Guy at the shop told me Samaki rods have won a few AFTA awards in recent years for best rod, mine was only a "cheap" $99 blank but some of them instore were more then $300. Guessing they were graphite or something.
>>909979
yeah, not keen on getting a spin. I can barely cast them. Definitely would take a long time to learnt o cast big fuck off lures between logs and sticks and shit.
It's hard finding a good rod for what I want. Seems these big swim baits are a new thing for cod fishing, so it's hard tracking down information.
>>909982
Going by googling big swim bait I assume multi jointed replica fish lures?
>>909983
Nvm they're rods. What makes them so different than other rods? You're right about bugger all info about them.
>>909983
yeah, swim baits replicate fish. Or other animals. They are a few options that look like snakes and rats which look interesting. Some around the 30cm mark. Surface and subsurface.
There's a rod that's been specifically designed for them by an Aussie company. Wilson Venom Swimbait is the model. But at $600 I'm not sure if they're truly on the money, or just casing in on the new craze and lack of information.
>>909984
The venom rods? They're 20-40lb, long and meant to help make casting such big lures all day a lot easier on your body. And that it's an Aussie made rod. Should be suited to muzza's and bazza's
>>909986
Funny because googling it I found a pic of a lure I bought from Ebay years ago for shits and giggles, a $5 special from China. It sat in my tacklebox for 2 years before I brought it out one day and swam it, tripped balls at how much it looked like a real baby carp swimming. I could see why this would work for predatory fish but never really thought to try it. Any good articles you know of on swimbaits?
>>909988
$600 is too much for a rod for me but each to their own, only ever go Cod fishing when I go on trips interstate a few times a year but there's always the off chance to get one as a bycatch in the Murray in SA, it's incredibly rare unless you are trolling though.
>>909991
Yeah, it's the prettiness of the lures that' attracting me. And apparently they produce good results.
I'm also in the stage of trying out as much as I can to find out my own personal preferences.
And yeah. 600 seems a little high to me too. But it might be worth it. Contacted Wilsons, so i'm hoping to get some more info.
I'm an apprentice, so I get $600 extra to supplement my wage. Usually I put that into shares. But I think I can use it for some fun once or twice without feeling too guilty.
Either that, or I sell some of my old shit. Should get 600 for some of my old gym equipment.
Keen for a fish with me if you come to Deni, or just gonna head out alone?

>>909999
After the last trip I'm seriously considering selling my boat and getting a flash pedal powered fishing Kayak, kayaks just seem way less hassle IMO. I'm lazy and need to take it out more instead of spending more money on crap for it. Was the Barmah thing related at all to the original gangland murders?

Yeah, I have a kayak. Not pedal powered. It's pretty good. Easy to get into and out of the ute solo. Getting a motor for it soon. Currents a bit too strong and i'm a bit too shit at paddling to use it right now. Took me 10 minutes to get upstream a bit and 2 minutes to float down.
Bloke at work has a hobie which he swears by.

Closest to anything that's happened here like that recently was a few years ago, a friend of a friend took offense to someone at the pub talking about his missus, he went home, grabbed a sawn off .22, came back and fired a few shots into the pub windows, luckily he's a retard and told everyone he was going to do it so the pub was cleared before he came back. Got 5 years for it, dumbass.
Before I got my boat I was so close to getting one of these, they are prop driven and can go forward and reverse unlike the hobies, but they are $2000+ for the basic model so thought it would be cheaper to get a boat instead. What I liked best about them was that the prop folded up under the yak in a little hole whenever you went over a snag, that's pretty neat.
>>910009
not too bad. Sounds like a fun place.
Not a bad looking yak. Kinda wish I bought a pedal powered one. But the $400 or so it'll cost to get an electric on there isn't too bad.
>>910009
kayaks are retardedly expensive. i understand the fiberglass and kevlar racing kayaks being pricey, but there's really no reason for the plastic shit to be this expensive.
>>910011
What sort of batteries do you power troll motors on Yaks with? Bought a 54 pound watersnake bow mount for mine this year, researched and bought a 130AH battery for it so I could get 8 hours of use on it before recharge and didn't factor in the size and weight of the thing, battery sits in my old Esky and takes up all the space in the bow now, thing is heavy as fuck too lifting it into and out of the boat.
>>910012
Years ago the Native Mariner was supposedly the first ever pedal powered prop Yak, so they had a monopoly on it, guessing other cheaper brands have come along since then.
>>910005
have you looked at alternatives? I mean since youre going to to stick a motor on it anyways..
I recently used a friends wavewalker® with a 3hp motor on it and it was a eye opener. really stable and youre up high like a boat.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60jDlB11_JM
I also got to demo a soloskiff which I had been wanting to do for some time. great little boat that hauls ass but the water here is too rough, its better suited for flats and back bays. checkem' http://www.soloskiff.com/
>>910014
group 27 AGM battery is what i use. 30# minn kota riptide.
the lithium batteries are the smallest/lightest and best for kayaks but they cost them dollars.
>>910014
little agm batteries. I realistically only need 3-4 hours. I'm out at about 5-5:15 and leaving around 9. Enough time to get a few fish.
Might be different if I took food. But I'm always too excitedin the mornings to think about anything beyond fishing gear and a water bottle.
>>910019
I've got a kayak already. $600 for a 160kg weight capacity and it's plenty stable enough for my fat cunt self to sit in.
>>910028
Man, picking up 20kgs is like a holiday. Stupid fucking idea to be a boilermaker. Fucking 50kg bits of plate, 9-16mm RHS... it's all too fucking heavy.
Also, don't be a fucking soft cunt. Are you a kiwi or something?
>>910029
Looking up the specs they're actually 33kg, still too heavy to be lifting shit around like that at 5am. I work at a winery and every year we get a little seminar from a chiropractor on how the "don't be a soft cunt" attitude ends up with so many cunts in our work with debilitating spinal injuries. I see blokes younger than me already with fucked backs that end with them always taking weeks off work from trying to lift heavy shit with no forklift. Not getting paid enough to do that shit no matter how "weak" it seems.
>>910031
fair enough. I work out enough that i'm not worried about lifting shit. Deadlifts make strong backs brother.
>>910032
I should probably give up smoking and drinking everyday and get fit this new year, didn't realize how fucked my body was until I swam across the Darling and back yeasterday, almost collapsed from exhaustion and the river there is only maybe 20 metres across, was flowing hardcore though.
>>909747
I can't believe I'm as cool as you...
>>909961
>implying there aren't countless eork arounds. I've flyfished areas too tight to fish conventionally. It's all about technique and an aggressive leader.
Yeah, a 15' cane pole that you can shove through the bush so you can jig.
>>909732
by god that pins paintjob looks like sex
>>910032
>deadlifts make strong backs
thank you, nobody realizes that people have ridiculously weak cores and that's why they fuck up their backs. Train your core and don't worry about snapping your shit up.
>>910071
Yee buddy that's been my favorite cheap combo as of lately. Those Okuma reels go on sale for $30 all the time and are so smooth. And the Lighting Rods are so much better than Ugly Stiks for the same money.
>>910087
Yeah the pink only really shows up at certain angles and then from other angles it looks silver and gold. I gotta try the thing out.
>>910033
I should give up smoking so I can buy a boat or something.
What do y'all hate more?
Losing that perfect strike because you where scratching your balls.
Or
Hearing your bait clicker go off when taking a shit.
>>910106
Reeling in a bass on a Texas rig and you get the thing halfway to shore and he jumps off and you realize he was just holding on to the tail of the soft plastic and didn't even have the hook in his mouth.
>>910106
>be fishing yesterday
>hopping a craw off the bottom
>going slow bc cold
>zone out
>notice line moving
>fuck up hook set
It happens a lot
>>909961
Why isn't this guy banned yet? He literally wants to have sex with innocent animals. You're no worse than a pedo you fucking asshole.
>>910111
Checked
I think I'm gonna try and get back out there today but it is real windy again. Texas rigs in the wind just annoy me so much. When I'm fishing them in calm weather, I will hook and land like 80% of the solid bites I get and then once I get these shifting and gusty winds coming from all directions it drops down to like 20%. Hell, I was even running a Rooster Tail yesterday and the wind picked up from a different direction and I had to start reeling fast so the line and lure didn't get sucked into weeds and logs and a bass slammed that and I missed setting the hook because of the wind on one of the easiest baits to set hooks with.
Blarge! I have 3/0 offset hooks. What size soft plastic grubs do I need to order? I can't simply take a hook to a local store for comparison, since I'm not driving 300 miles to a store that actually sells them.
I can't seem to google a sizing chart pairing soft plastics with hooks.
>>910123
Are they EWG or regular straight ones?
That would probably work well for 3" curly tail grubs, thinner worms like Zoom's 6" Finesse Worms and smaller, and creature baits with thin bodies like baby brush hogs.
>>910100
This
my core is weak as fuck, i have that condition where your ass sticks too much outwards or your lower back arches too much, or something, so my lower back is fucked.
>>910124
These:
http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Gamakatsu_Offset_G-Lock_Worm_Hooks/descpage-GOGL.html
So, a bit between EWG and straight. I'll be using them with grubs like this. Most people call these 3" since they are 3" from head to tip of outstretched tail.
>>910132
>tfw slangin cases of Pepsi all day
My spine is probably a fine powder by now
Almost time for a new thread!!!
>>910137
Maybe it will work. This is a 3/0 EWG next to a Zoom Fat Albert.
>>910142
Is that a 3" grub?
>>910144
They call them 3". Pic related
Also NEW
>>910145
>>910080
Yes but that's not fly fishing
Short aggressive leader, then to cast grab the leader a foot over the fly, pull the rod back, then point and shoot. It will flick your fly right where it needs to be, and give you a good drift, then once it's in the water you can kinda flick it around
>>910106
The missed strike, with the bait runner a buddy grabs it for you and hands it off
>>910117
Mods, he's clogging up the threads with off-topic shite
>>910146
Oops
>>910014
I'm currently outfitting my yak with a trolling motor. I had a 75 AH battery but it was so heavy I think it would cause the kayak to be unstable, so I swapped it for a 35 AH AGM. Also the AGM is sealed so I won't have to worry about battery acid leaking out. It should be enough power for a few hours of trolling. If that's not enough I'll just get another and run them in parallel.
>>910117
again... you sound jealous and are obviously infatuated with our favorite skidmark.
Here's you're (You) since I told your bait. How about trying fishing instead of tossing this shit bait here. You might have something to add to the thread.
>>909859
buy some waders.
>>909860
i use old coiled cell pone cords. chop both ends, attach pliers, lipper ect.. crimp a loop. attach to belt with carabiner. its a easy lanyard.
you need to work on those eyes and barrel wraps on your spinners. they look gud except for that part.
>>909881
hemostat clamps.
>>909742
look at ice fishing sites. they sell all those tiny creature baits for cheap.
