I haven't made a tracking thread in a while

In summary I'm trained to look for missing persons.

> track
> what to look for when tracking.
> how to look when tracking.
> identifying sign
> determining age
> identifying counter tracking

Ask me anything.

>what's the best way to fuck up somebody tracking you

There are plenty of ways you can try and shake off a tracker and lead them chasing ghosts. But a lot has to play in your favor, like weather and fatigue, especially if the tracker has no relief to take over.

In essence you want to buy time, make a larger gap, leave less sign, deceive convincingly and to not be predictable (which is probably the most important)

My instructors tell me that lot of the military blokes like the SAS would break off or "explode" where they just split up and meet at a predetermined point, some 15-20kms away.

Which doesn't make your job easy if in a similar scenario, because you either have to split your resources, or wait for backup or be smart and deduce which track to follow.
In the meanwhile, they make ground and time.

I won't divulge how to "fuck up" someone though.

>how do you get your job
Depends where you are from, but since places like America have a strong hunting culture the skill is still employed and has a following.

There are institutions in Texas such as the police or rangers (I cant remember exactly) who are well versed in mantracking because of illegal border crossers in the badlands.

Personally, it isn't a job of mine.
I got into volunteering when I was in uni, and we occasionally got called to look for missing people.
The way we did it was a bit ineffective, so I decided to seek knowledge and find instructors and learn. I practice and employ my skills when I can.

Well those would classify as a sign that someone has been in the area whether by footprint, disturbance, discoloration or breaks of dirt and vegetation.

You have to confirm or deny your suspicions that the cause of the sign is caused the quarry you're following, especially with multiple people or contamination.

It is still an important facet of tracking when you're looking or someone, especially with multiple individuals.

But it is a bit misleading that you keep walking with your head down until you stumble upon them. Eventually you gather enough evidence that you can confidently discriminate between individuals.

From there, sign just confirms or denies that you're on the right track.

It then moves to individual personal habits like littering, being 'noisy' when walking, how often the person takes breaks, how often they drink water.

All these add up to build a picture of the person you're following, their build, fitness, carrying load, if they're lost etc.

At this stage, you can start deducing on where they are travelling and why, which is around the time when you can send someone to intercept, or get to their destination before they do.

Keep this thread on the rails shall we.
In a missing person (as opposed to tracking someone as an enemy) what are some basic first steps? Where do you start the process?
>>
>>906685
you start the process by learning from an oldfag who is actually a tracker and not some pleb shilling for teh attention

You're gathering as much information as you can about the person you're looking for.

Depends on what you're doing as a member of your search party, you may be talking to the police and the family regarding the person's age, weight, shoe size, fitness level, any disabilities or mental health issues (big one).

Or you could be liaising with the local police/ search crews to get a general idea of the terrain of the area, sure it helps to have a map but local knowledge is still worth noting. If you can get a local to come along with you during the search, even better.

The last step (or you can delegate someone while you do the processes above, and catch up on this step later) is to just go out into the bush, away from the commotion and the noise and just sit and relax, tune in and listen. You're more productive if you're calm than if you have the pressure of an distressed family member, lights, sirens, radios etc.

The info gathering is important because you can start to get a picture of the person you're looking for, if they're old they're usually unaware they are lost, so they're less predictable, they generally don't travel very far and need rest often.

Same with children between 1-3 are unaware of the concept of being lost, while 4-6 understand the concept of being lost, but will often run away or hide from callers believing they're in trouble, especially police. So its bring a female caller to shout their name as they'll be more likely to respond.

but you still get pretty weird outliers

>>906738
Make the handler lose confidence in his dog. Assuming you have time and energy, you can try to run in giant figure 8's leaving a large signs with scent trails, But then again, the tracker can sign cut.
or you can lose them in a river downstream, but you'll leave lots of sign when you get out, mudslides/wet rocks/ displaced rocks. Moving upstream means you move slower and kick up lots of mud and silt that move downstream.

Give/take really.

>>906381
while I am sure some rangers can track, that is absolutely not what the rangers do. also, you have an idiotic understanding of spec ops. just to get a ranger tab your ass is going to hike 2 miles waist deep in a swamp.

how u gonna track me in a swamp? you are a moran.
>>
>>907021
Not army rangers, the ones that patrol the border, not sure if they're part of the police force. Im not from the US.
>>
>>907028
no, I knew what you meant. the texas rangers. they do not patrol the border.

the texas rangers are pretty much the fbi of texas.

you literally have no idea what you are talking about. I could loose your ass on a golf course.
>>
>>907019

how far off can you smell hot boipucci?
>>
>>906738
Walk in water or if you have time to get it sprinkle cyan (sp) pepper behind you. Also if you have to walk in soft soil take off your socks, put your shoes back on, then put your socks over your shoes. This hides your shoe print.

I've been tracked by trackers like yourself before.. In short I've found out some intresting things to dodge trackers. Care to confirm?

First off don't be a fatass. Less you weigh harder it gets to follow.

Don't stop moving. Make circles if you have too.

And best one of all. Find a road and get in a car or something as soon as possible.

Pretty much easiest way to dodge trackers.

Also fuck dogs. And their shit..

I went to a couple of Tom Browns week long classes. Expensive... but guy seems to know his shit. What say you?
