Current state of my 1998 Ford Explorer, the "Assploder." She's currently under the knife for a dana 60 front axle with 18 inch foa coilovers and a 14 bolt rear. Hoping to run at least a 39 inch tires on as little lift as I can. Gonna enter it into King of the Hammers a few years down the line. If you're looking for an /out/ vehicle the explorer is an amazing platform. A 2 inch lift and some 31s will take you almost everywhere. Things a fucking tank.

lol that's pretty badass, except for the roof isn't sealed. Slap some tarpaper on that and you'd be set to go. It's gotta be pretty dark inside with just the two little windows at sub optimal positions.

'STRAYA

One of these (Fairmont wagon), but white, with a pod slapped on top and a dual band 27MHz/UHF radio.

If it doesn't rot away on me (or I buy a fourby), I'll fit a bullbar and some lights to it. It's surprised me where it's taken me offroad.

also parts are piss cheap, it's not too much of a bastard to work on, engines go forever (or longer than the transmission and body, anyway), economy is decent enough on the open road if you can avoid the urge to gun it, and just about every E-series Falcon has interchangeable parts, as well as body parts from B-series wagons.

Also 8' bed so lanky fucks like me can shack up in the back of it easily.

This is my '91 Land Cruiser, pictured at Salton Sea last winter. It was my first vehicle and I modified the heck out of it during high school. It really started my passion for cars and engineering.

Now I'm in college and daily another car, while this stays with my mother a few hours away. I take it on a long road trip every chance I get, with lots of camping.

Mine is the left most. The rest are family's.

If you remove the headrest, you can make the passenger seat into a halfway decent bed.

I don't bother to take it offroad for obvious reasons, but it does well on gravel roads (plenty of fun to be had in Western NC)...and its cheap transportation that I can feel safe leaving behind at the trail head. (It is 5 speed and looks like garbage once you get up close).

Thanks man. It's my first jeep, those tires are 265/75/16 which is just under 32 inches. They're a tad big for the lift but I got them for a great price off a friend who didn't end up using them.
My other WJ is an 04 Overland Edition like the previous one also, but it's from Tennessee so it has zero rust. Currently changing out the whole drive train and putting on steel front and rear bumpers, a safari rack and a 4.5 inch Clayton offroad long arm kit onto it. You'll definitely love the long arms at 6.5 inches. Should be mostly done by the end of the year. The bumper on the Jeep I posted above is the ARB bumper.
