Swiss Salt & Pepper rucksack. You can also try googling Swiss Mountain Troop Rucksack. I bought mine for like $75 two years ago and now they're closer to $200. You can still find some for $125 - $150, though.

I'm from the area, and as much as I love it, it's awful for backpacking. Water sources are few and far between, mountains don't get more than 2000 feet, and there's more fucking rocks and roots on the trail that you have to step around than everywhere else I've been combined

Last shot, I really need to learn how to use my camera. So many shots come out blurry as hell. Was a fun easy going hike. Trail was really poorly marked in some places. The trail is called the Tom Lowe Trail. It's fairly laid back trail. Lotta rock gardens but this is eastern PA so every trail has rock gardens. It's a orange blazed trail and at one point it turns off another trail that's blazed in a slightly more yellow shade of orange. Followed the wrong tail for 2 miles before I realized I goofed. Used my GPS in my phone to get me back on track thanks to the AllTrails app (is this the best cellphone hiking app? Thinking of joining the pro service they offer to download maps for offline use for 30 bucks/yr). Had my fiancee with me who slowed us way down and with the detour we ended up night hiking the last 2 miles or so. Had my NiteCore HC30 with me though (the best headlamp out if anyone needs one). I let my fiancee wear it but since it's a flood light I had enough light to hike in front of her and still see what I was doing. I gotta get another one for her for when stuff like this pops up.

Ended up stopped by Cabela's to feed thier fish afterwards. They had cheap 22 so I bought some of that up. Ended up taking a slight detour to AW rootbeer in Bethlehem (live in Philly) for dinner.

All in all it was a great hike. Can't wait for my Fiancee to finish school so we can move out of this city but till then these day hikes will keep me sane.

What backpack also? Need a new one. I take either my 1982 Winchester model 70 in 30-06 my mossman 500 or my Rossi ranch hand in 45 colt with a full stock and custom lever loop. The Rossi is my favourite /out/ rifle. Whadya think?
>>
>>905073
Also Lethbridgefag here. Can't wait to leave this shit hole and go to either back to sparwood BC or Warner/ milk river AB yet haven't decided.
>>
>>905076

Swiss Mountain Troop pack. Literally just has the small pocket on the outside and that's it. I'll be buying myself a new pack for Christmas. Rifle collection is nice. Only reason I chose the 660 is because it's carbine length and it doesn't get caught up on branches or foliage. Hopefully going to summit Mt. Columbia in the next few months.

Lethbridge is shit. Calgary is too though.
>>
>>905097
Yeah I love me some carbine length rifles. That's why I love my ranch hand. My kit consists of a TOPS BOB the ranch hand and my old backpack that has seen some shit. Is it roomy? Any complaints or different choices you wish you went with?
>>
>>905097
Sorry didn't read all your post. Im in the market for a nice canvas backpack for day hikes and whatnot. Not a big fan of nylon I like to keep it classic
>>
>>905102

Pack is room enough, but keep in mind that 98% of your gear is going in the main compartment and you need to decide what stuff is getting stacked on other stuff. I love the aesthetic and it'll never die, but I'd like something with more pouches. My local surplus store has some Austrian police issue mountain packs that I'll take a look at.

I've only done the North route - twice - but I can assure you it's pretty much pristine. Worst thing you'll find is the rare abandoned food wrapper.

Southern route - where the vast majority of people are - might be a different story, but I've spoken to people who took it, an none mentioned trash. The summit was clean as well.

The great thing about US and Canadian wilderness is not only the absolute massiveness but also the fact that, in Canada especially, you can essentially travel to some rural town and then head in one direction with only further wilderness in that direction.

In Britain, unless you go to Scotland, you just end up walking across some field and beginning to LARP as some sort of post-apocalyptic edgelord whhen suddenly you find yourself walking through Bumpington-on-Tweed and feel like an autist passing by some rural pub with a bunch of pissed farmers eyeing you up and down.

Yamnuska is a great climb and I did it with basically zero experience. The summit is pretty spectacular when it's not cloaked in fog like this picture, but I had a real issue with high school kids climbing off trail, kicking rocks down scree slopes and playing music on Bluetooth speakers. Almost sullied the experience for me.

No, I didn't bother this year. I was thinking about maybe getting into the wolf cull that's going on, but I work two jobs and can't spare the time to go hunting much anymore. I'm lucky if I get a hike in once a month these days

Yeah started out from Ngadi and ended in Nayapul. I skipped the trek from Jomsom to Tatopani and got a Jeep instead because of the dusty roads.

There's a lot more Jeep traffic in the mornings and evenings but my guide suggested an alternate route which bypassed a lot of the Jeep roads so that was nice. The flipside is that the trails and tea houses are a lot less well equipped than the well traveled routes.

Hiked Lynn Peak, North Van yesterday.
Got hit with 20cm of fresh powder on the way up.
992 meters of elevation gain on the way up, and then back down..
10km from the car and back.
5 hours to summit with 25lbs of gear.
Zero visibility at summit. Strong winds and thick snow.
Did it solo.
Absolutely beautiful.

Anyone else doing /out/ stuff around Van?
>>
>>919843
Btw, it would've been way easier in snow shoes for the higher half on the way up and snow blades (mini skis) on the way down. Anyone used either of these for scaling mountains in deep winter?

You sure you're allowed to walk around with your gun like that? The last time I checked it had to be unloaded and in it's case in Alberta. The CO's are going to assfuck you if you ever get caught.
>>
>>920481

"Non-restricted firearms must be made inoperable during storage or locked in a sturdy cabinet, container or room that cannot be broken into easily. They must be stored unloaded, with ammunition kept separate unless it is kept in the same locked compartment as the firearm.

In a remote wilderness area, however, non-restricted firearms do not have to be made inoperable or locked up. They must be unloaded, but the ammunition can be kept handy."

http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/fs-fd/wild-sauvage-eng.htm
>>
>>920488

Yeah but is that really a wilderness area? Looks like the bow valley to me.
>>
>>920491

It's about a two and a half drive out of Calgary into crown land. Photo was taken approximately 40 minutes into the hike. Even if it doesn't qualify as a remote wilderness area, crown land is approved to do shooting on as long as you take proper safety measures

What rifle?
>>
>>920867

There's no further definition I can find, so I don't keep a round in the chamber. That part is fairly vague, unfortunately.

>>920869

Remington 660.
>>
>>920874
How do you like it? I like the dog leg bolt on them.
>>
>>920875

A lot of people complain about the actual shape of the rifle, saying it's like holding a 2 x 4. I find it extremely comfortable for my hands and the carbine length is great for treks in thick brush and foliage. A lot of people dislike the bolt, too, but I don't mind it. One thing against it is that it can be slightly uncomfortable to shoot. .308 WIN coming out of a 20" barrel isn't the most enjoyable thing, but as a whole, the rifle works great for my needs.
>>

Yeah, need a proper chimney and to stuff all the gaps in the logs, but we started too late in fall/early winter to do much more work till spring.

Just been cutting wood and having bonfires /out/ there.

Also getting some gear ready for possible local trail hike come spring.

Vt is not far, but is geologically distinct.

Image, will likely clarify that it is not Vt.

BC is quite far, but is mineralogically similar.

Both good guesses based on images, though.
