What do you guys think about Anoraks?

Personally, i love them. The pocket on the stomach is great. There is no zipper who can break.

to the best of my knowledge its a german ww2 mountain anorak. you won't get a legit milsurp one for cheap, because german surp is expensive, but you can get reproductions for around £60
british dpm smocks are cosy as well, have a few myself
>>
This is good, but the price is to high.
>>
>>896811
Somebody know anything about this one? All I can find is a swedish store that doesn't have it in stock anymore.

anybody got a source on a similar anorak?
>>
>>897465
Op here. I have the exact same Anorak.

It is the best piece of clothing i have ever owned.

>It was only 599 SEK = 50 $
>One big pocket on stomach
>One big pocket on the back
>Two had-warmer pockets on front
>One radio pocket on the front with hole for antenna
>Big adjustable hood with cap
>Zipper under armpits for ventilation
>On the left side you can open up the whole side on the jacket for easier dressing
>Velcro closing at end of arms
>65 % polyester 35 % cotton
>60 celsius degree wash
>Able to wax the garment
>Overall good quality, good double seams, good zippers
>Will recommend

The name is T&P Moen Anorak
>>
>>897839
>>897842
It looks amazing! I can't find any information on the manufacturer though, so at the one place I can find it, it's out of stock (itaboutdoor).
It would be perfect for my fishing, that front pocket could fit all I need!
Is it completely waterproof or does it get soaked after hours in the rain?
>>
>>897888
It is pretty water resist, not so much, but decent. I guess it will get better if you wax the jacket properly.

Also, forgot to mention that the hood can be rolled in by a velcro fastener.

After hours in rain it will be pretty wet, but then again, that depends, its like any other clothing with mixed pollster/cotton, how you wax it will be important.

The thing is that it is only manufactured by a pretty small Swedish company who also is the only retailer. It is ITAB Outdoor like you have found. Unfortunately it seems to be out of stock, maybe send a mail to them?
>>
>>897912
Hmm... Maybe it isnt for me after all as im really looking for something 100% waterproof..

You just use regular Greenland Wax on it? I've used it on some of my jackets and backpacks, but I never got it to work properly. If the rain gets to stay on the fabric just a couple of minutes it will soak through
>>
>>897915
Yeah, it is not waterproof. But it will stand against some rain if you wax it. I have used greenland wax.

Personally i like to wear that sort of clothes, and when it rains i just put on a rain jacket and rain pants made of 100% polyester.

Cotton mixed jackets/anoraks is more comfortable and warmer than plastic ones.

someone explain to a burger the appeal of anoraks. OP says there is no zipper to break, but there is still a zipper on the top 1/2 of the jacket.

is it just for the stomach pouch?
>>
>>897950
Since it doesn't open up down the front, it's more resistant to wind and water. I think that's the general idea.

I just ordered this as part of my girlfriends xmas gifts. Hoping to get out more in the rain.
>>
>>897950

Less bulk at front when wearing a knifebelt while hunting, zips get uncomfterable for that I find. I also like closed front flannel shirts for same reason.

Jeez!
>>
>>897950
Well if the zipper breaks on a jacket you are screwed. If the anoraks zipper breaks its just the top that in most cases can bee closed with buttons or velcro anyway.

I just like the design, it fits better. Like a sweater.
>>
>>898342
If a regular jacket has the zipper break then you can still do it up with buttons or domes as well, though I've never had a zipper break on a jacket in my lifetime. YMMV I guess.

It looks more like fashion Than for out?
>>
>>898748
that's the trouble is they haven't been popular for out purposes lately. They're essentially a long anorak. "The Complete Walker IV" states that they used to double as a bivy for early mountaineering purposes. There are a few out designed cagoules for but they are too expensive to justify buying one to fuck around in.
>>
>>898392
Well if they come in orenge, I'm in.

Gonna be my outer layer (+poncho for rain) for my woods bumming. Sized to fit my down puffy jacket underneath for maximum coziness.

>>
>>897923

sez it aint waterproof.

I'm guessing this wouldn't be good for winter shit?
>>
>>902360
waterproof could either be good or terrible depending on the conditions. If it's a "waterproof breathable" it'll be nice to have as an outer shell. If it's something coated or impermeable like PU or PVC don't bother with it. Those things need to be super well ventilated and only then are good for very unactive things like standing guard. What you should be wary of is cotton. It saps inordinate amounts of heat when wet from you, unlike other materials which will tend to still insulate you. The gorka suits are made for soviet special forces, so they should be a pretty safe bet for winter activities
>>
>>900146
Looks comfy. Not something I would probably buy - but really does look cozy af
>>
>>902536
OK, thanks!
>>
>>900653
Dry enough, its' for bumming around the woods and for when I go out to do astrophotography.

On mine the outer is made from Finnish wool fabric intended for clothing so the maker assures me reasonably windproof. Gonna be awesome for standing about in the cold

>pic related

Poachers pocket is gonna be awesome for spare lenses and poncho.

For hiking and alpine use I wouldn't use it obviously, I like pertex and pile systems for that.

>>902539
yea hope so.
>>
>>902830
forgot the image
>>
>>902833
It's very much the poorfag version of the Jagdanorak loden smocks, but I wasn't gonna drop 399 sheckels on a system (heavy wool outer) I haven't tried before.
>>
>>902834
That collar is pretty /fa/ isn't it though.
>>
>>902836
This loden smock is also worth a mention, but the webbing on the front is a little /out/istic, do like the side zips for venting!
>>
>>896848
I love how whenever this photo is posted, people reply asking for where to get the anorak. 8/8 of posters on /out/ would seem ridiculous in this hobo rag, but because it's Brad Pitt wearing it - it looks so damn cool.

As a german soldier i can assure you that our gear is fucking crap. Wont block out Wind or Rain. Only good from late spring to early autum. But only if the weather is dry.
>>
>>902360
It's great for winter use actually, you can also get it with fleece insulation which is comfy as fuck. Sorry that it took so long to reply
/owner of 2 gorkas
>>
>>899860
I've worn my gorka all year around in Finland, where temperatures range from +25°c to -30°c
Gorka is god-tier, you might wanna get a dedicated winter gorka for the really cold winter days tho
>>
>>903359
Is it worth buying? I want something to wear in rain/freezing rain that I don't have to worry about ripping or wearing out. I'm looking for something that can take a Florida hurricane or Alabama-Mississippi winter.
>>
>>904220
It is worth buying but mind you it's not waterproof to the level of something gore-tex. It's a simple, practical, extremely durable jacket that can be made pretty rainproof by impregnating it.
Also it is cheap, very cheap. And comes with really nice matching trousers.
I would say the gorka is more suited for freezing winter than hurricane rain tho.
>>
>>902839
looks so nice but it's like 350 euros or something

anoraks are a meme, if you want to go full "no zipper"because you're worried about your closure options breaking, just use a pullover

>not just a polartec hoodie

I'm very seriously considering ordering the Bars 4. Whats the best/cheapest place to order? I can find the Bars 3 with fleece lining on eBay, but not the Bars 4(I'm in canada, so hopefully the seller has worldwide free shipping)

My current set-up is the chinese TAD knock-off sharkskin suit(jacket and pants are together ~$80usd. The jacket as an outerlayer is pretty nice.)
>>
>>903351
lel. In eastern europe that stuff is cheap as dirt. Have it when urban exploring old objects, front of it is torn by stuff, but I still love it

nice rig. Got that chemsuit in the mail and you're right, shit is GIANT and hard to move it (very stiff). Was cheap so it'll do as car trunk emergency clothing. Contemplating cutting it down and sewing it into a better size, but we will see.
