Hey guys. Argenpoor here. Since my right knee isn´t what's used to be, I want to make this Stick (broom for comparison) into a walking stick. Any advice? What shouldn´t I miss? Also sticks general
wha kind of wood is it?
>seal the ends with wax and let it dry for a few months
>ideally the bark would still be intakt for that
>on some woods you leave it on anyway
>cut it so the lower end is around 2,5cm diameter
>it should be about 20cm longer than you are tall
>some people get a metal tip (imo that looks bad, but your stick last waaaaaaaay longer)
>after drying it seal it weatherproof, I do everyday the first week, every other second week and once a week the last two
Pic related was improvised while I was already on the trail
Thanks mate! It's already dry, I believe. It's eucaliptus wood. I should waterproof it. It's ok if I use varnish for that? Or should I do use wax only?
if you plan on adding a metal tip, which I really recommend, make sure you add a rubber between wood and metal.
Find a good piece of softwood and carve one yourself.
Pic related.
My grandparents had one of this size; small, waist high. Also, a second one staff length, head high, with a winding beard that went all the way down it. I'm thinking of finding a good piece of pine and make one myself and give it a good linseed oil rub to preserve.
rubber between wood and metal, got it ;)
