So I live in the Appalachian foot hills.
Right behind my house is this really beautiful place with a lot of interesting things. I have spent the last two days making a hiking trail for me and my girlfriend there. Clearing out thorns, fallen branches, fallen trees, and all kinds of obstructions. I found a wonderful spot to have picnics there.
I am wanting to make a small wooden sign that has a painted on picnic with the words "Picnic Spot" with a heart next to it.
I plan to put this sign here at the spot.
How would I go about making this sign so that the paint wont come off?

Use acrylic paint. If you want to go extra far, use a heavy lacqeur over it to seal the paint and preserve the wood.

Why not carve it out?
You can make one just out of a log you turn into a post. Dig a hole and put it in like any other post. The top of the post you carefully split with axe, maul, wedge, etc if the grain is straight enough you will now have a flat surface to write on. You can woodburn or carve in letters (which you can fill with paint).
Don't need any special equipment or have to buy shit at the hardware store.

Was thinking about doing that but if I did, I would like to use a wood burning kit to do so, which I don't own. That and color would make it a little nicer for what I have planned.

That sounds pretty dang neat. I'll give it some thought.
A new picture of today.
