They were designed by Arcteryx and made by Propper for the military. Before /out/ was created most of us posted on /k/ and Dave Canterbury made a video recommending it. I got one at that time when you could get one for $50. I can't stand military surplus stuff because of the look but this is a great pack especially because it comes with a dry bag liner and you can carry tons of stuff comfortably. I actually thought about using a cloth paint/dye and just paint it a different color cause I hate mil surplus so bad.

I've used rit fabric dye on a fleece jacket to make it a subdued tone, I'm sure it would work well on nylon

>rit fabric dye
I've actually planned on something like this. I have a one of those 20 gallon rubbermaid tubs that I was going to soak it in dye for a few days then dry it out. Problem is the military used some sort of waxy coating that repels water. I'm not sure what it is but it isn't Scotchguard or anything like that. I'm sort of at the point where I don't care anymore cause it's such a good pack

nylon wont absorb the dye.

dont do it. it will peel the fabrics coating.
