I am a Forest technician and an avid outdoorsman,
I work in Canada and that means a ton of bug dope all summer long. I carry my glasses as well as a spare set of contacts.
Also I wear ESS Crossbow polarized most of the time. Protects me from debris as well as saves my eyes from the sun in the long run.
Contacts in the rain are the best, nothing worse than looking up at a tree with glasses on and getting them constantly covered in rain.

Contacts with a glasses backup.
Ask me why.

EDIT:
I wear contacts everyday
Safety glasses/sunglasses or goggles for me.
On the moto I typically prefer safety glasses or sunglasses. Offroad races typically require goggles.
Snow, dual-pane photochromatic goggles. Sunglasses if it's one of those warm spring rides. Again, racing, goggles are required equipment on the track.
