Hey guys, sc/out/ here, joined the Air Force and I'm going to be able to leave tech school sometime in the next couple weeks. We can't drive more than 2.5 hours from Sheppard AFB, which pretty much stops us from leaving the Fort Worth, Dallas, OKC triangle.
What sort of outdoorsy stuff is there to do to pass the time when not studying, especially hiking (not too into the hunting and fishing, which takes a lot of paperwork.)
So far my goals are to hike Mount Scott in the Wichita Mountains, see Geronimo's burial at Fort Sill, go to the Chickasaw Natl. Recreation Area for their springs, then hike some trails at Copper Breaks and stop to see the fossil tracks at Dinosaur Valley State Park.
Anything I'm missing? Also looking for non-/out/ suggestions, it's boring as hell here.

Just north of Denton going towards OKC is pretty. Few hiking trails there. Red river is cool too.
Hey they AF fag, I was stationed at Dyess many many years ago.
You need to hit up your MWR guy and ask him.
He should have everything you need from backpacks to RV units and even boats.
I dont know what its like now but back in the day I would rent a Scamp trailer and tow it behind my truck to the lake.
Cost me 5 bucks for the weekend and had to bring it back clean. The propane was free.
There is the Wichita mountain wildlife refuge northwest of Lawton, OK.
Just found out about a mountain in the Wichita Mtns range called Longhorn Mtn, sacred to the Kiowa Indians. It's been a place for prayers and collecting a sacred cedar wood that only grows there, but a mining company announced plans to strip it for gravel.
I haven't found any info for climbing, but even seeing from a distance could be cool. I did just get back from Oak Flat, an Apache burial ground which is in a similar battle with mining companies.
