reddington crosswater 6wt combo $125

good starter combo that will last you a few years until you want to upgrade to a better more personalized setup. the combo comes complete with case. bought one for nephew and he loves it.

Knew I should have left it in my post.

Im not really interested in a 'begginner' setup. Im looking more in the mid range tier stuff so I can just jump right into it without having to ditch a lesser one after a few months

I forgot to add to make your starter combo a little better, I would recommend buying a higher quality fly line than what you get with the combo. learn to cast with the first line and fish the better line. fly lines are easy to change out and extra spools are usually available to buy for most reels.

you can always spend thousands of dollars on fly fishing gear and its accessories later on but learning to cast is the first step. doing it with a simple setup especially for the fish named is the most simple method. imo
>>
>>878377
Pretty nice, it looks like a good eater, but I don't know if those black dots the other guy claims to be parasites means it's not okay to eat or not, never had that issue with my fish. What did you catch it on? I have a lot of luck with Little Cleo's.

Pic related is my pike hole. I was going to go today, but I opted for a rooty tooty point and shooty session instead.

I just sort of caught it by accident actually. I was catching these little shiners on nightcrawlers (because I couldn't get anything else to bite) and the pike just came up and ate one of them as I was reeling it in.
Also I didn't eat it but I've read that those black parasites aren't harmful for humans to eat at all
>>
>>878393
thanks bud. Ill start lookin
>>
>>878396
Pike are easy to catch accidentally. My brother had one take a bluegill he was reeling in, and one hit my bobber once. Some days they'll bite anything that resembles food.

Depending on the size limits in your area, keep one and eat it. They're tasty fuckers. You can just scale them, lop the head off, cut to the asshole, then pull the guts out with your thumb and grill them with onions and shit stuffed in them or fillet them. Filleting them properly takes some practice to avoid the bones. I posted a guide in a few previous threads.
>>
why the fuck are these rods $800+?? what are they made? with carbon nano tubes?

Here I was thinking bass fishing was the ultimate meme. sheesh
>>
>>878397
I'd also recommend TFO. Good rods for mid range price and the warranty is lifetime, no questions asked. That way if you fuck your rod while learning, you're covered.

about $100 for entry level, best it you don't know if you're going to stick with it. $200-300 if you want what you actually posted and intend to keep it.
craigslist if you want to spend under $200 for good shit that you can sell for what you paid if you give it up.
$800+ if you want to go for top end stuff.

Go to cabelas and get a three forks/wind river combo for 80 bucks
That will get you bass bluegill and trout all day long
I'd say its pretty good and I've got no plans on moving on for a while
>>878467
Craigslist is definitely a good place to look
Try for a 6 weight and once you learn to cast get nicer line
Then while it may seem annoying I reccomend tying your own tippits
Get cheap line 10, 15, 20, 25, and maybe 30 pound mono or flouro
The tippit from 1x to 6x and that will cover everything, you can find leader formulas online
>>
Just spent the last couple of hours looking around online and I honestly think my best bet is the Redwing Topo outfit (pic related)

I went with the Path combo instead of the Topo one. I wont get the little foam flys or the line clipper but idc. The Path combo has an aluminum reel instead of plastic and its cheaper so hopefully it will work out well for me when I get it next week

Does the amount of pieces matter? I went with the two piece instead of four. From what I briefly read it seems like the only difference is the 4 piece is easier to transport

http://m.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Micro-Lite-Glass-Spinning-Rod/product/36946/ I'd take that rod and put a 1500 size reel on it
I imagine being fiberglass it will be noodly which is good for trout (and it will make fish feel bigger)
Noodle rods absorb a lot of shock and headshakes so while a fast action rod might need 6lb you can get by with 2lb for the same fish
>>
What is the best reel brand and why is it Penn?

I know some old farts still using their Penn reels they got when they were in college. These things are truly AK47's of the fishing world, they're rusty and disgusting as fuck but they still work.
>>
Anyone think it would be a good idea to put the guides into a wiki? It would be much more readable with images. Also I feel like guides for surf and pier fishing in saltwater depend a lot on the location in America. I wonder if it's a better idea to focus on the most popular area of this general or do a simple guide for everywhere.
>>
>>878583
More recently they have become the glock of the fishing world.

Don't get me wrong I'm a Penn man but they have been moving to other materials for some of the gear.
>>
>>878591
This
Old penn fishing reels are ak-47s
New ones are flocks
But I also like daiwa; they are good for just about any application at just about any budget
>>
>>878589
I'm still trying to get somebody to type them up so I can put them on the Pastebin. Unfortunately I can't put images on there, but I also have the Imgur in the OP and I can add text to those images.

>>878555
Bass Pro has that store brand black and green combo that is bretty cheap and looks nice for the price. Might be the one Skid posted.
>>
Finally got to the river today. Got there around 2 pm and stayed til 8 and didn't catch a damn thing after throwing about 6 different baits around.

Still fun though, I hooked a couple on a new lure I've been really excited to try out and seen a big group of turkeys walk down to the water to drink.

When I started out fishing, I hated gutting my catches. Always handling the fish with the tip of my fingers and trying to dig out the intestines with my knife, touching it as little as possible.
So as a ritual almost, I started wiggling my hands around the bloody intestines as the first thing after cutting the fish open, getting my fingers bloody and gross. After that you just dont care what you touch. Now I dont have to do this ofcourse, but it helped back then..

No.

I have to wear motorcycle gloves home most of the time. That shit will ruin a good pair of leathers.. A box of gloves is a fair enough price to keep your hands from smelling like shit. And I only ever need 1 glove to handle the fish so its even cheaper as im using a glove per stop/trip.

Also for multiple lake trips. Disposable gloves helps prevent spreading parasites and diseases across lakes/rivers like a stupid spic.

And if you're a nasty piece of shit like skid who is someone that will take a dump and not wash his hands and go eat a rack of ribs. Then sure handling them bare hand is fine...

>>879029
Take the hooks off your lure and try to catch fish without any hooks. I've landed bass, sunfish, and catfish without any hooks at all simply because they held onto the lure. Catfish on the other hand tend to swallow it so that is no real thing. Sunfish normally let go only when they surface or you pull too hard. Bass hold on a long time, but they can only hold on while they are mostly sideways. Being straight forward towards you, you will normally pull the lure from their mouth.

Not all fish hold on so long of course, but many of them do hold on for a time longer than what you realize. That is all without extra scent being added to the lure.
>>
>>879019
>>879023
>>879025
It's well studied, it works because it draws out minnows and shit to chase your bait which draws attention from the bass when they see out of place baitfish.

can someone explain jigs to me? Are they basically the same thing as putting a split shot at the end of the line, up to the hook? Are they essential in anyway if you're fishing something like a softplastic?
>>
>>879169
they're pretty much a texas rig with a weight that doesn't move up the line.

They're good for swim baits and shit since you can just reel them through the water at whatever depth you want, and also good for bouncing off the bottom with craw dads and stuff

Sorta. I guess you could just clamp a split shot on but all of the different weights have different swimming actions.

Plus if you are using a curly tail grub or something, jigheads normally have that little barb that keeps the bait on so bluegill nibbling on the tails won't rip them right off.

You got any local tackle shops? That might be a good place to start. They can tell you some local spots, what you would expect to catch there, and then hook it up with a rod and reel that will work well for those conditions.

With rivers, you just gotta find the right spots. If fishing for predator fish, they tend to hang out in areas of still or slow moving water right next to faster moving water. They will sit there in the calm water facing upstrem and wait for baitfish or other prey to come flowing down the river.

Idk exactly what brands they will carry, but if you are thinking trout, a 2000-3000 size reel with 6lb test will probably work well. And then a 6'-7' rod, M weight or possibly ML if you end up getting a 2000 or smaller reel.

If they sell Shimano Sienna reels, that's a good budget reel and then find whatever rod fits on there well. Siennas normally run ~$30 in the US.

I could never do 4 lb, I just made the switch from 12 lb mono to 8 lb mono and the strength difference is insane. I feel like I get snapped off for absolutely nothing now but the casting distance I gained is too good to ever go back.

It's also a lot more satisfying to catch big reds and bass on weaker line because it feels like an accomplishment

Idk, the 4lb worked well as long as it was fresh. I never liked using mono over 8lb unless it was for catfish or carp. Too thick and stiff and the memory sucks.

>>879657
All depends on your budget and what you like. 1000 size reel and then find a rod between 5' and 8' that you like. I'm kinda over UL rods for panfish and stuff. I reccommend either going L, ML, or M with some slower action so you can actually throw a 1/4oz jighead on it when you go out on a windy day.

6lb is fine, but it will start to get tough to cast under 1/8oz. 4lb should be more than strong enough for panfish and small bass. If you want to run 6lb line, just grab a 2000-2500 size reel and a ML or M rod.

Oh, and for the hooks, you will def want an assortment of stuff. If the crappie or green sunfish are biting, they will take down a larger hook than the pumpkinseeds.

If you look at this pic, check out the "Carlisle" hooks. They are like regular aberdeen hooks, but with a long shank. I like those a lot with bluegill since the shank of the hook will always be sticking out of their mouth (unless you really gut hook em) so it is easy to get the hook out of their tiny mouths. Get some of those hooks and some wax worms and have fun.

I'm gonna post a pic next of assorted panfish lures.

anyone have pros / cons of these two setups for saltwater inshore?

I tried the three-way swivel and it always seems to get tangled out of the water, does current work it out correctly?

Saw some guys using the free sliding weights and a regular swivel and it looks more practical

I'd put my $8 telescopic crappie pole and a box of worms against your gear any day...for panfish.

If you want something that will do trout/bass than I will say there are better set ups.

That being said I have used my pole to catch bass, panfish, and catfish.

It's light, compact, cheap, and easy to use. It stays in my Jeep so I can fish any time I can get the chance.

They have been used for years to put food on the table and they will still be used after your fancier gear has been upgraded to the newest and greatest.

I must have made like 500 of those in my life time. They are at least the penultimate top 10 panfish lures that are super easy to make.

PROTIP: Use a small piece of black foam for the body instead of lots of thread; for a floating fly. Tied similar to the lure in >>879807 pic. You can get black foam like that from just about any hardware store. Just look for black foam water pipe insulation tubes. Another source are foam pool noodles, but those are usually in vivid colors, which are good too. The foam is super easy to shape with scissors. You can make all sorts of flies and lures with that foam, including poppers.

Lures allow you to cover a large area of water in a short time, drawing out the most aggressive fish. If that fails, I move down to a more "finesse" lure or maybe bait.

Also like others said, it allows you to avoid crabs, crawdads, or dinks from eating your bait up.
>>
>>880349
Oh and I also think it's more fun to have to make a lure look alive than to sit and watch bait. I know this is personal preference, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

But if you absolutely have to catch a fish, and you don't care what kind it is, then I agree live bait is best. (Not that you can't target fish with live bait, just more likely to get certain kinds with the right lure)
>>
>>880323
>counterarguments

There are no legit counterarguments, you are correct.

>constructive discussion

This is difficult because it is on the consumer end of things. Essentially, stop buying the stuff. There's only a few baits and lures anyone needs for most everything. Differences are simple like color and target fish type.

Instead, what happens is people buy tons of lures for the same exact use because they are a consumerist. Most people simply do not know how to fish properly and must run though many baits and techniques and just happen to get a random lucky strike.
>>
>>880395
Oh I would definitely say lures are more fun and practical within their applications but as far as being a necessity to produce fish I would say definitely not. I actually tie flies, make inline spinners and jits, etc. so I see what you mean about it being fun to trick the fish too
>>
>>880342
UL rods are fine, but a lot of them are really made for <2lb line. If you put 4lb line on a UL rod, you can go after bass and it is fun but 1/4oz lures start to get too heavy for a lot of them.

If you get a L rod with a ~1000 reel and 4lb line, you can still cast little 1/16oz lures fine and if you want to throw a 1/4oz Rapala for big crappie or medium bass, the rod will handle it much better. And it is still plenty light that a fat bluegill will give you a run.

Basically for a lighter pond combo, the L rod will do 90% of the stuff you want the UL to do and you won't have to worry when 16" largemouth show up.

If you think everything on that setup will be <1/8oz, run the UL rod with 2lb mono

>Instead, what happens is people buy tons of lures for the same exact use because they are a consumerist. Most people simply do not know how to fish properly and must run though many baits and techniques and just happen to get a random lucky strike.

I would agree if you aren't fishing water that is pressured. But in heavily fished water changing the profile of your lure can mean the difference between catching fish or not. I could see a fish up shallow and I tried 3 or 4 various creature baits, worked them exactly the same way, and he hit the most obscure one I had.

I'm not saying you need to buy one of every lure and you can definitely get by with just a few different kinds. And I probably would've gone on and caught another fish somewhere else without changing lures, but it's nice to have different ones the fish don't see that often. Basically what I'm saying is having all these lures isn't necessary to catch fish in general, but it can be helpful to catch those fish that have lock jaw.

And like I've said before I mostly buy new lures cause they're neat and I like to collect them.

>>880397
I don't think anyone would say they're a necessity. I'm sure any fish would rather hit live bait than a lure.
>>
>>880412
Bruh, you gotta get down on the rubberbands instead of those hook covers.

>>880409
Then I have to stare at the line and stop by a bait shop whenever I go out.
>>

I do most of my fishing with bait but lures are good if you can't readily get bait or if they're not eating something you'd find in a bait shop (like the current trout hatch)

Plus some bodies of water are artificial only

I was mostly referring to mono.

That 6lb SpiderWire has been pissing me off. All SpiderWire seems to fray bad compared to Power Pro and if you knick one or two little strands on that light braid it will break with a bluegill. The 6lb braid is super thin though and will cast anything but I reccommend a different brand.

I only have issues with life length on lizards and flukes

>>880323
Convenience is a big one for me
Its annoying to go buy worms or minnows and I have a day or two to use them
But most fishing can be done by 2-3 cranks, a popper, a frog, and 3-5 soft plastics
>>880290
In the us we use shorter poles (10-20 feet) for dropping a bite precisely for panfish but some people will use a technique called "doodlestalking" where a bass lure is tied on and the pole is used to fish it but its a dying tactic (but it let's you present a crank or spinner to one spot several times)
And I've met a guy who has a special pole (I'm pretty sure it was a 20 foot pole that he pulled the tip off and glued a heavy saltwater tip top on) and he tied about 8 feet of #30 braid on there with a 5/0 circle hook tied on there and he used it to walk a small creek, drop cut shad into brush piles, and pry catfish out of them
A nice feature is you can vertically jig spots like tree stumps and pilings from far enough away not to spook the fish
>>880387
Decent speck
Good luck
>>
>>880450
SpiderWire costs about the same as PowerPro. It isn't cheap at all. I think they are made different ways. Spider Wire is more smooth and flexible than PowerPro but frays easier so you really need to keep an eye on it.

>>880447
What are you going for? For crappie, bluegill, and bass you won't even need a leader. But 4lb mono is probably the way to go if you have some really picky trout.
>>
>>880461
Yeah I wanted to throw the trout Idea in since im getting a light rod instead.

Trout fucking hate my yellow braid so i might need atleast a little leader to keep on the side.

Can't go wrong with Shimano. Look around a bit too since sometimes the UL reels will go on sale or clearance. I remember Bass Pro had the Abu Revo S 10 reels on clearance forever and they were like $80 while the rest of the sizes were still $120.

And just go with some moss green line. But even with my red 15lb, I never have a problem because of the line even in super clear water.

>>880466
Ayyy hopefully a couple people find that shit useful. There is a ton of good stuff on the Imgur and I would like to add more to the Pastebin but nobody wants to do copypastas for fly fishing, pier fishing, or river fishing.

>>880473
At Bass Pro, the lightest PowerPro they carry is 10lb so I had to get the SpiderWire. I might swap that line out for Suffix if they have 6lb. The reel could use some new line anyway since Miami Anon fucked it up the first time I let her use it. To be fair 6lb braid and a flimsy UL probably weren't the best for a beginner on a windy day.

With the jigheads and curly tail grubs (like the green one in the pic earlier) you can bounce them on the bottom or even swim them with a steady retrieve and twitches.

I like using underspins or jigheads with beetle spins when I'm swimming the grubs. Underspins are jigheads with a little blade hanging off them (pic related) and they can help draw attention to the bait. And beetle spins are basically spinnerbait type blades that attach to any jighead and make it a mini spinnerbait with no skirt.

Pic related might help too. The top yellow one is an underspin. Middle black one is a regular jighead with the beetle spin on it. Bottom just shows an underspin with a grub on it.

And while we're on soft baits, the one on the right has a weighted swimbait hook. Then the three on the left are "Shakey Head Jigs" which end up being weedless like Texas rigs but are typically lighter and more of a finesse presentation.

>>
>>880491
I'm assuming the ones with spinners are a smooth retrieve and the others are kind of a jerk/twitch/wait/reel sort of thing?
>>
>>880493
Nah, even the ones with the spinners you want to twitch. Or at least give tiny little pauses when swimming them. It's kinda hard to explain online since it is a combination of working the rod tip and retrieve speed. I use the same technique with spinnerbaits and inlines like Mepps. Reel at medium (or faster/slower depending on depth) for a second or two, then drop the rod tip a bit so the bait pauses and falls a few inches, then pick it up again. A lot of times fish will just follow it with the steady retrieve and that little pause or twitch will really get them interested and they like to grab it right as you start reeling after a pause.
>>
>>880497
Awesome. I bought a few inline spinners too and haven't caught squat with them. I'll start using the pauses.

The inline spinners should start working better now that fall is here. They work well in murky water or when it is cloudy or getting dark. If you are fishing clear water on a hot sunny summer day, an inline spinner with a big silver blade can sometimes spook the fish before it entices them. The twitches should help out for sure tho.

And remember that speed=depth with inlines. Make sure the line doesn't get tangled in the blades and they are spinning freely. You should be able to feel the difference when the blade is caught up vs when it is spinning properly. There will be a lot more resistance when the blade is spinning.

Wut inlines did you get? Certain cheap ones are shitty, like the Bass Pro XPS inlines. The blades never spin properly and they cost just about as much as Rooster Tails so you might as well just get the Rooster Tail. Mepps still a best when it comes to inlines.
>>
>>880514
>Wut inlines did you get?
I got a pack of 6 cheapos that looked nearly identical to the Mepps hanging next to them. $5 for all of them. They're certainly not the same build quality but for the price I figured I'd give them a try. Lose a sub $1 lure and I don't care. Lose a $5 lure and it ruins my day.

They spin quite well and you're right about the resistance. You can tell when they're tangled.
>>

IMG_0532.jpg
3MB, 4032x3024px
>>880519
As long as they spin, you're straight. Mepps just seems to have some magic behind it.

Sometimes with the cheap ones, you really need to get them moving for the blades to start spinning. Mepps will spin even on the slowest retrieve. You also gotta remember the different shaped blades will make a difference in how deep they run and how much noise they make. The longer, thin blades (willow blades) that Rooster Tails have will spin faster, make a little less vibration, and allow the lure to run a little deeper. The French blades, the round ones on Mepps and Blue Foxes, spin slower and create more noise and will run shallower at the same speed. Blue Fox Vibrax inlines have that bell on them (pink one) that causes extra vibration so it will help in murky water or at night.

That yellow and silver one with the eyes on it is the shitty Bass Pro inline. The blade doesn't spin worth a damn and they aren't even that cheap compared to other inlines.
>>
>>880514
>>880525
Two questions; do you put a swivel between these and your main line and what causes the blade to not spin? Some of the inlines I've made from parts I bought don't spin at all and I'm wondering if it is the Clevis or the Blade causing it or if I am mismatching differently sized parts or what

Pic related is normally how it happens, especially on windy days. The line gets wrapped around the main wire under the blade and clevis. I actually prefer to run them without a snap swivel since they tangle more that way than just tying the line straight to the lure. Those snaps without the swivel are a good compromise for my lazy ass.

>>880533
I really like the brown Mepps because it is like the only one that still uses natural hair. The motion of the skirt with the natural squirrel tails seems to be the best.
>>
>>880538
It's good practice to cut off a couple feet of line and retie your lures once in a while since the knots get weak and the line near the bait can get beat up.

Same here but even with that, you should retie the swivel at least every time you go out. Lots of pros and youtube vids reccommend retying the knot after every ~dozen casts.

I reccommend pic related if you like to swap lures a lot. There is less shit to fail on them since they don't have that little folded metal plate holding everything in place. They are also much more low profile. I started using them like a year ago and rarely, if ever use regular snap swivels anymore.
>>
>>880562
People use these to directly connect the lure to the line? Seems weird and clunky to me, why don't you just practice knot tieing? I can tie a uni or Palomar in like 10 seconds
>>
>>880570
10 seconds?
>cut the old lure off
>cut a bit of line off the standing line
>cut the knot off the hook that you didn't get
>tie new knot
>cut leftover line off knot
>dispose of all line because I'm not a heathen that throws it on the ground

As opposed to 10 seconds to use a snap swivel. That's why I use a snap swivel. I change lures every 25 or so casts until something hits it.
>>
>>880570
its fine if you are using inline spinners since it doesn't effect the action what so ever but any other lure that doesn't swivel will suck.
>>880562
If you are fishing open water and arnt fishing near structure, retying that often isnt really necessary. If you are bumping cranks off of the bottom though you definitely should. The line will get a lot of little scratches and abrasions that will weaken it a lot.

The knot goes on the smaller side. Only one end opens and that is the end that goes through the lure.

It totally depends what you are fishing for and how deep you want to run the bait. Sometimes lighter is better because it will fall really slow and look natural. Other times you want to go heavy when the wind is picking up and you want to get the bait down deep before the wind takes it.

With a light rod, 1000 size reel, 6lb braid and a 4lb leader, you will probably be using anything from 1/32oz up to 1/4oz. Anything heavier than 1/4oz should be thrown on a heavier combo.

Idk how well you can tell from the pic, but I believe this is 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, and 1/32 oz here.

With that setup, 1/8oz will give you a good cast. 1/16 you should be able to get out there on a calm day or the wind to your back, and 1/32oz gets tricky and even on 6lb braid I normally just flick them out ~20' max and bounce them along the bottom until something picks it up. 1/32oz is like <3" bluegill size.

If you are anything like me, you will be casting a ton of 1/8oz stuff. That's like Mepps #1, I believe 2" or maybe 2.5" Rapalas, and those jigheads that are a good size for any crappie and good size bluegill.

For pan fishing you want cheap cheap cheap
Get foam spiders, beetles, and foam ants
They're hard to destroy and fairly cheap
Also you can "drown" them (soak them with water so they sink)
Also get some panfish poppers
For trout youll want a good selection but these are good general patterns
>wooly buggers, white black and olive; regular and bead head, size 6-12
That's a good seeker pattern because its a nymph and a streamer that can be stripped in, swung, or dead drifted
It doesn't explicitly look like anything but it vaguely represents minnows, leeches, and various nymphs and aquatic insects
>pheasant tail nymph
Get them size 12-20, its a good look-alike for any type of mayfly nymph- dead drift it under an indicator
>rusty spinner, Adams
Get various sizes, they are a dry fly that will look like mayflies
>elk hair caddis
Various sizes, dry caddis fly imitation
>stimulator
Various sizes/colours, stonefly
>copper john
Various sizes, its good on a double nymph rig to get baits down without adding splitshot, dead drift it with a nymph behind it
>stonefly nymph, black
Size 8-10 dead drift it
>sno cone/zeebra midge, black. Green
Will imitate midge larvae or caddis fly larvae, dead drift it
>hares ear
Size 12-18
Good general pattern, dead drift it
>eggs
Various sizes this is the time for them
That sounds like a lot, because it is a lot, but you'll wind up with it anyways
If you only want to buy a few, get the pheasant tails, wooly buggers, and eggs
Then add more as you need them
>small mouth
>Poppers, size 6 to 1/0
When you're fishing slow water let it land, let the ripples clear, pop it once, let the rings clear, then go on with the presentation

Clouser minnows, various sizes, get ones that look similar to the baitfish in the river, and there are a lot of ways to present them, here are my favoritesfavorites

Including cut and disposal time, maybe 30 seconds. Seriously, tying a clinch/uni/palomar should be something you can do blind. I've never fucked with snaps directly to lures, they just seem to neuter the action of the lure in most cases and in clear water conditions seems like it might spook.

The only time I really use swivels or snaps is when I am surf fishing, where 99% of the time I am using a simple carolina rig. I'll tie up leaders to hooks and individually package them in sandwich ziplocks in a larger bag and label each leader with the length for easy swapping. These leaders look like hook>line>small swivel, which I then tie to a snap that is attached to my main line.

IDK maybe I'm just making it harder than it needs to be but it's how I've always done it

That one I like for the next pattern too
>crawdads you might not want to bother with these cause they're super hard to cast cause they're heavier than a Russian mail order bride's fake tits

Anythong that looks like a minnow or leech is fine
Those can transfer over to aggressive trout
Then get tippit tying shit, you'll get a lot of "wind knots" and pre-made tippits run 3 bucks a piece (I destroyed at least 1 per trip while I was learning ) basically just get mono #25, #20, #15 and #10 then tippit 2x, 4x and 6x and that will cover everything from the tiny flies To bigger streamers, tippit formulas are all over the internet
Then look up the blood knot, perfection loop, and improved blood knot and tie your own

I feel ya. I rarely retie the stuff aside from the rods with SpiderWire that frays. But I'm trying to instill good habits into the new anglers.

IDK why you have such problems with your spider wire, I have some 6lb spiderwire braid and i've never had consistent issues with fraying

>tfw I wish they sold more of these colors in-store
These have by far been one of my favorite things to put on a jighead, underspin, beetle spin, or as a trailer on anything else.

They sell 2" and I think 3" ones in the red bags in the freshwater section, and then the blue saltwater bags are 3", 4", 5", and possibly larger.

I have 2" in orange and white, 3" in pumkinseed, and then I think 4" saltwater in chartruese. The 4" chartruese are great for bass and I'm gonna grab more of those and probably some 5"ers. The little white and orange ones on a 1/16oz or 1/8oz underspin will slay medium to large Mayans and bluegill. Even got a snek on an orange one.

Alright I can do that. Do you want it green text style or just a regular write up? Also pics or no?
>>
Ahhh shit we are in auto sage. See you next thread fags.

Do you have PowerPro or another type of braid on any other rods? Seriously, you can put it side by side, even switch reels and rods, and the SpiderWire will fray much faster. And it isn't just one bad spool, it is all different weights and types on different setups.

And it's not like the SpiderWire frays slightly worse than the PowerPro. I'm constantly cutting a couple yds of 20lb SpiderWire off one rod while I almost never have to do it on the one with PowerPro.

Nigga we got til 310. It's 2016.

>>880656
No greentext bullshit. I can't put pics in the Pastebin, but if you want to post pics, I can put those on the Imgur and if you want me to add a few sentences with the pic I can do that on Imgur.
>>
Also rolling for next thread is "fly boy" edition
>>
>>880660
Yes I do I have two reels with PowerPro, 10lb and 40lb, and while there is some occasional fraying on the SpiderWire it is also 6lb braid which is tiny. Never come anywhere close to losing a lure from fraying. IDK I couldn't find any other brands of 6lb braid on Amazon

Have you seen the new Microfinesse lure series from Eurotackle? Extreme Philly Fishing has been doing a 3 day tourney using it and I was intrigued so I bought one or two colors of each kind. Going to fish them tomorrow
