This aint a Boots Thread. Its a Goddamn kicks thread.
after taking off my boots last weekend i decided i am officially done with them(unless there is snow on the ground). I hate them i cant stand them. I am looking for a good /out/ shoe that i can put miles on in fairly tough terrain and. I care more about traction and comfort than ankle support or looking like i am in special ops.
please post your favorite trail kicks. Currently i've got my eye on these but im just starting my search so i'm open to suggestions.
it's all you will ever need, senpai.

those look like they may fit what i need. just set a price alert. do they ever dip below the 1$40 mark?
taking the Brooks Cascadia 11s on my Appalachian trail thru hike next year.
>>873271
I finally broke my Cascadias in. SO comfy hmmmmm
>>873259
>I am looking for a good /out/ shoe that i can put miles on in fairly tough terrain and. I care more about traction
vasque mindbenders. aggressive lugs. stiff sole. great for cross country, steep loose terrain, talus hopping...
i beat the ever loving hell out of mine for the last 2 1/2 years before i bought a new pair. then i immediately put 23 loaded miles on the new pair, no break in needed.
plus rei is clearing out the old color scheme, so they were $80 instead of $115.
>>873259
maybe you have the wrong boots, but mine are incredibly comfy.
>>873380
>>873278
ive tried a bunch of different boots and i just dont like how restricted i feel in them or the weight. i wear skateboarding shoes for the most part and Allen Edmonds for work so im pretty spoiled for footwear.
i know that a lot of pople love their boots and if it works for you that great but im just fucking sick of wearing clunkers on my feet that im more excited about taking off than putting on.
Have some merrell all out peaks. Fucking fantastic shoe, unbelievably comfy. Got some holes in them now and looking at the new balance minimus
>>873581
how many months/years did you get out of them before they started getting holes?
>>874090
Had them around 7 months so far, and they're still wearable, started getting holes probably around the 4-5 month mark, I've covered a lot of miles in them though and I think they're completely worth it. This pic is them about a month ago, still wearing then and on the right shoe, you can see the wear on the top, that is a hole now, and on the sides is where ot first ripped, though that was only the outside layer, the inside was still fine for a while
>>873259
I bought a pair of leadville v3s hoping they would work but my severely over pronated left foot wouldn't let me wear them. The "arch support" in the shoe just ate into the side of my foot.
A nice solid shoe just wasn't for me.
>>874261
If I have flat wide feet are they a bad pick?
>>873332
I was under the impression they require no break in at all. I bought mine months ago and they feel exactly the same today.
is Kanadia 8 good trail running low budget shoe?
>>873399
Some safety work footwear are quite light and don't cost a fortune. Have you tried those?
>>874773
I'm actually interested in this too, was thinking of picking up a pair
>>874773
$80 isn't low budget
Not a trail runner perse (Merrell calls them an outdoor cross trainer), but the Merrell Moab low cuts are a pretty comfy hiking sneaker and pretty much the backbone of Merrell's business.
>>874773
I bought these ones recently called adidas duramo 7's. they say they are trail runners but I just wanted them for general use. They are extremely comfortable for just general walking and the sole is unusually "sticky" which will probably be a good thing during winter. That cloudfoam stuff is really easy on the feet.
>>873259
Once your feet toughen up, Merrell trail gloves. You will be SORE if you're still used to boots though.
>>875227
And altra lone peak.
>>873288
>if it's not leather then it's not a boot.
>what are rubber rainboots
No joke, I've only hiked in NB 574's for 2 years now. $50 Aussie Dollars, good for casual day to day wear, comfy, sturdy and light. There are a lot of cons but I'm content enough with these.
might invest in some solomons or some merrells soon, but I'm worried the extra cost wont be justified in benefits, for what im concerned with anyway
>>873288
>wrong, if it's not leather then it's not a boot.
Why must people dartard themselves in to oblivion?
>>875227
Can anyone tell me how the fit is for these things? Are they wide/narrow and do they adjust well on your foot? I kinda need to get a new pair of shoes and don't wanna do 5-fingers again. I bought a pair of shit straight from china ones and they were incredibly narrow.
Help please, I'm kind of new to being /out/ and I'm just looking for some shoes I can have for everyday wear and also some occasional mountain hiking, my budget is around $60, any suggestions? Preferably something that looks more "athletic". I'm not a huge fan of the muted, earthy tones that most hiking/outdoor shoes have
>>875227
I reckon Bare Access 4 are more forgiving in this matter? Is it good shoe for barefoot newbie?
>>875850
Wide forefoot. Plenty of room for toe splay. If you have flat feet, the midfoot will probably feel narrow (see pic) but for people who actually move around its fine.
>>873259
I wear the Merrill Grassbow Air. Light, comfy, tough.
>>876448
I've gone through two pairs of bare foot shoes now. I did most of my hiking in the northern rockies in them. I didn't have a problem with the shoe per say but they WILL end up smelling like shit that can never be cured. It's pretty embarrassing when you are hiking next to someone and all you can smell is your feet. In my experience, if you try to keep them from smelling, they will not smell for about 1-1.5 years before getting the death stench.
Now that I am out of my barefoot phase and I when I am not hiking in my boots, I wear Adidas Terrex Swift R GTX's. Extremely comfortable shoe and even through a 10 mile hike my feet feel great. Highly recommend these. These have even moved to my daily wear.
>>877438
Most shoes now aren't aren't really made to last that long. The fact that yours held together like that for so long is impressive.
>>874773
>EVA foam
Those things will go flat inside six months.
>>874447
They did for me. Gave the sides of my feet a bit of pain. Now I wear them everywhere because they're so dang comfy.
everyone on the pct this year wore altras, i wore altras, he wore altras, they wore altras, fucking altras. love em.
>>877566
yep most sneakers are too soft. plus they offer no toe protection etc. pp.

2fresh.
do those have the safety light-up feature?
>>873581
Got the New Balance Minimus, about a week ago, they're really nice, still think I prefer my old merrells, but they are nice
>>877566
I use Cascadia 9s, they don't last more than 6 months anyway. Just the nature of that type of shoe. Still worth it.
My last pair of altra lone peak 3.0s lasted 800 miles on the trail with only small holes in the upper. Not bad.
The second shoe on the right is a Montrail mountain masochist III Outdry. I've tried hundreds of manufacturers over the past 15 years, in a work environment that is harsher than most (concrete, acid, always wet and carrying more weight over tons of mileage). The only shoe I would buy today is a mountain masochist. I wish they still had a gore sock liner, but the Outdry still out lives anything else for waterproofess I've tried recently even with acid eating away at it.
>>883804
>100s of manufacturers
I meant pairs from many different manufacturers.
>>883804
I've had good luck with them as well
