Backpacking food thread
Looking for some recommendations for food you just add water and eat in its own packaging. I've tried mtn house but I'm looking to branch out. Anyone tried dehydrated meals? Found packitgourmet and they have some interesting stuff. Anyone recommend anything?
Been thinking abut this myself lately too. My list is small and pretty standard and not all is just 'add water and go'; building it up over time. Maybe it'll help.
Instant rice
Instant potatoes
Cured or dried meats
Oatmeal variety pack
Sunflower seeds
Dehydrated fruits
Dehydrated vegetables
Ramen packs
Soup bouillon mixes
Wasabi peas
Pancake mix
Blueberry muffin mix
Jams or jellies
Powered eggs
Powered milk
Tang (powered OJ)
Instant coffe & powered creamer blended mix
Also taking tips on other foods. Not a big fan of trail mix.
There is a great hiking food book called one pot wonders or one pan wonders. It's great.
Try Mountain House meals
Peanut butter
Hard-tack
Animal fat/lard
Tuna
Welch's fruit snacks/any candy infused with vitamins (dehydrating applesauce into fruit leather works well too!)
Wine/beer (optional)
Easy peasy, high calorie/net weight, and cheap.
