What is /out/'s opinion of taxidermy? I grew up with it

I used to think it was stupid, until I shot my first big whitetail. Now every time I look up at my shoulder mount I relive every moment spent on that hunt. It beats the hell out of a picture.

Its fine I guess if you like the aesthetic of it.
After you kill the animal you could turn it into whatever you want, its already dead.
I generally eat all the meat and keep the pelt in storage, but thats because I like the taste and I l prefer a pelt a creepy ass statue thing.
But do whatever you want to, my opinion shouldent phase you in any way.

I don't object to it conceptually but you have some pretty horrific and hilarious examples out there, it's something that's very easy to fuck up.

It's cool if it's relevant to where it's at. For example if it's a grizzly you hunted in alaska but live in Texas. I've been to ranches that are trying to promote their deer hunting area, but have deer hanging in camp that aren't from deer killed there. There's also people that buy taxidermy then claim they hunted it.

I don't think there is anything morally wrong with it. But I hope you used the other parts of the animal too, so it didn't just die for your bad taste in home decoration.

I started on roadkill, only in the winter months though. Lets you learn how to cut/skin properly, and I liked how I got to know how a certain animals body is put together.
(raccoons have some massive jaw muscles)

I've done Deer/Opossum/Raccoons/Foxes/all kinds of snakes(only summer animal I would work).
All in all, I had fun, made a little cash, and learned something about animals that you just don't get from tv or books. I felt more connected when I went hunting for the first time, got to use almost everything but a few of the bones.

Idk what it's called when you boil the skeleton and wire it back together, but that's what I'm planing on doing next.

I've always wanted to mount a few squirrels on a branch and stick it in a corner in my house, so it looks like there's a branch running through the wall with squirrels on it.

Uncanny valley sucks. I look like a hobo because I procrastinate all new clothing purchases.

I want to go to Africa and do one of those plains safari. Shoot a Eastern Cape Kudu, Gemsbok, Wildebeest, Warthog, Impala, and Blesbok.

Get all their heads mounted, or at least the ones with good antlers. Bring them back to my house and put them on the wall.
