Hey /out/,
i'm about to travel to scotland in a few days, but not yet sure where to 'hang out'...
My first idea was to follow the main West Highway Road and see where i would get. After more research i stumbled upon the isle of Skye, which also seemed interesting.
So what are your thoughts /out/?
Any tips? Any experiences? Where should i definitely go? Favourite places in scotland?

ayy. I'm going on a 10 day hiking trip next monday on skye, Really looking forward to it!
Bring your raingear, midge repellant, look up bus times if you are not renting a car and look up walkhighlands (google it) to see nice walking routes with pictures, restaurants nearby etc.

I would recommend driving up to Fort William from Glasgow then heading to the fishing village of Mallaig. From there you could take ferry to Skye or the small Isles or just check out the beaches.
Have you checked out the North West 500

You could always do the Royal Deeside route in the NE into the Cairngorms.

Just got back, had a great time. I did 4 days on the Way (Tyndrum to Fort William) then drove to skye. The midges were truly beastly, no repellant really works, just keep moving, or camp in a windy place (by the ocean on Skye). It rained almost every day in the highlands so be ready for that. Make sure you spend some time the pubs, the locals are a treat. Ben Nevis is a nice day hike.

You'll have a good time on Skye, it's a beautiful place. The tourist season will be starting to wind down so hopefully it won't be too busy.
If you've got the time, check out the Cairngorm range or maybe even the Southern Upland way. The start of the trail is in the lovely village of Portpatrick and it takes you all the way to the east coast.

The other posters are spot on about the midges, just keep moving and keep a smoky fire going when you camp, repellent usually works on the horseflies though! Especially at this time of year, avoid thickets of heather whenever you can. They're swarming with ticks.

We've got a right to roam in Scotland so you can walk wherever you please, just be aware of the relevant laws and you'll have no trouble. Check out the Outdoor Access-Scotland website if you want to know more. I hope you enjoy your trip!

Talisker Bay, Isle of Skye. White and black sand mixed on the beach. Also check out Talisker distillery while you're in the area.
