Urban exploration thread!
Anyone know if you can still get into the bunkers in Odiorne State Park in Rye NH? I haven't checked in a while, so I don't know if the hole is still there.
>Pic related, hole on left

We went to montauk afb like ten years ago. It was cool
>>
Yeah I go there occasionally, it's really fun I've done plenty of tags there and I live 30 minutes away, if you find the bunkers there is a hole in either side of the doors and you can crawl in through that way. Its one long corridor with many rooms attached all the way down it

Last night went out to Drawbridge, it's a ghost town in the marshes between Fremont and San Jose. Had to play hide-n-seek with a patrol car on the way out and had to dodge the Amtrak (those bastards are stealthy) but otherwise had a great time.

Me and my friend found a large concrete drainage pipe in the woods next to a restaurant. It was large enough to walk into. But she saw spiders and turned back so we didn't explore it all. Me and my /out/ buddy are gonna head back to it later, however I have no idea how deep it goes. While near it, any sounds would echo very loudly. Does this mean it's very shallow or really deep?

Was planning on going in until I saw its covered up. Been inside lots of buildings and pipes around here, I think this one is a service tunnel that leads into pipes or something.

I could probably open it with a crowbar, just something to lift it up. Not sure if it's locked or alarmed. Security cameras are in use apparently but if I don't leave a trace...

I'll dump some from when I used to be into this shit HARD.

These photos were taken probably close to 4 years ago now and were done with a shitty point and shoot camera so I do apologize in advance for the quality of most of them. There's close to 100 photos but I'll only upload the half decent ones. Location is a huge abandoned Molson brewery in Alberta. Ended up taking several groups through over a few years and eventually the entrances were welded up and shut down. You used to have to scale an elevator shaft to even get in.

There was a big tasting room with a stone fireplace, these metal and porcelain later holders and a bar. There was an adjacent room where some edgy satanic worship teenagers had tied up some dead pigeons with twine and hung them everywhere with a big old pentagram drawn on the floor. That was a later excursion and without a camera so no spooky photos.

What are some of the methods you guys use to find abandoned buildings? Me and my friends have typically gone with the "just look around for boarded up windows" method, which works OK because we live in the rust belt. But I'd like to start taking things more seriously.

I don't have any great pictures to share, so I'll just tell a spooky story.

>Be with group of friends,
>We accidentally stumble up an abandoned school, it's got a huge amount of land, and it seems almost untouched even on the outside.
>We scope it out
>Holy shit
>This building has no ground access, and all the windows are shut
>but
>One window 15+feet up is open, and there's a small platform right below it.
>Friend 1 climbs up it and briefly checks it out
>The rest of us just watch him because we're manlets who can't reach far enough to muscle-up.
>He had a rope in his backpack, so he ties it and climbs down to the floor with that rope
>The school is 100% untouched, there's still motivational posters, there's a bunch of class pictures, etc.
>He almost opened the doors below to let us in
>Just barely realizes there are reed switches (alarms, basically) on the doors
>He climbs back up, tells us he's going to make a rope ladder and get us all in.

Some time passes

>The rope ladder is done, me, Friend 1 and Friend 2 are going into the building
>tfw the rest of our friends leave the city to go to different colleges
>tfw we'll never be close highschool buddies exploring old ass churches, steel mills and schools ever again
>pic related
>Friend 1 climbs up again ties rope ladder and lets it down for us.
>Climbing up 15+feet on a flimsy rope ladder (the rungs are rope as well) as it sways in the air is fucking terrifying btw
>We make it up, take a breather on the ledge
>He then switches the rope ladder over to the windowsill and climbs down
>We follow
>Again, this place is still fucking pristine
>A huge auditorium where talent shows must have happened.
>This was apparently a fairly successful K-5 art school
>We notice that there seems to be at least some signs of electricity, there are things in the corner that are lighting up
>We don't investigate too closely for fear of them being motion detectors.
>We go into a room which must have been the main office
>We hear noises that sound like an alarm
>They were actually just crickets
Nah, there's definitely no alarms to worry about.
>We keep exploring the classrooms, not much to see desu
>we decide to go into the basement
>it always happens in the basement
>we start walking down the stairs
>suddenly we hear this faint, super weird noise coming from further down the basement
>We all just stop in our tracks and stare at each other, smiling that "oh shit son this is awesome" smile.
>"We have to find out what that is", I say

It's actually super hard to describe this noise to you, Friend 2 said it sounded like a high-pitched geiger counter, Friend 1 said it made him think of a soldier behind enemy lines who was on a radio, and then had to shoot himself, with the radio still making noise. I tried to find a video or sound effect that sounded similar, but honestly I couldn't. The point was, it was fucking with our brains.
>>
>>858726
>We keep walking down, slowly but eagerly.
There are fucking lights on in the basement.
>And as we turn the corner we see a white box on the wall
>We investigate further
>It says on it "MOTION SENSOR: DEACTIVATED" or something to that effect
>It was a security system/alarm
>We decide not to stay there any longer and bolt
>By the time we were out of the building it was midnight, we then spent over an hour at a nearby McDonalds to discuss everything that happened
>In the moment, we just paid attention to the phrase "motion sensor" and we ran out, but it DID say deactivated on it, and there were no police that showed up (this was already in an area with a lot of police, too)
We're going back there on the 24th, hopefully we're going to figure out why the fuck the lights were on in the basement, and hopefully do this all without being murdered.

Random find I came across while exploring a farming village out of town yesterday evening. Google Street View photos from 2011 show it occupied by what appears to have been a very neglectful owner (entire front yard overgrown with thorn bushes, multiple old trucks loaded full of random trash in the driveway, garbage strewn about the property). The 13 acre property is now vacant and was listed on multiple real estate sites last month. Satellite imagery dated 2016 show two additional structures on the property and an excavator that are no longer there, so it is in the process of being demolished. Will probably be gone in a month's time.

As I walked into this room I ended up making direct eye contact through a blown out window with a neighbor sitting his front yard. He immediately stood up, walked inside, and then reappeared with a phone to his ear (presumably calling the cops), so I quickly took a few more pictures and promptly hit the road. Looking back at this photo I wish I could have had more time in this room to investigate the VHS tape next to the chair (looks like a home video), or the book in the rubble.

Impossible City.
Easy trip, but still really fun, especially considering all the unexploded ordinance lying around Fort Ord. Cold War urban battle staging ground spanning ~4 miles square: unfurnished "houses", office buildings, a gas station, complete with underground pipe system. Supposedly still used for various SSS (Sekrit Skwurl Shit)
Pls no v& mr. CIA men, I didn't fuck with any of your stuff. I am looking for a steady job, though

Ooh, forgot I had this one
Inner shaft of a privately-owned (afaik) radio dish array in scenic [UNDISCLOSED]. Used to be AT&T judging by marking. Definitely still "inhabited," likely a bug-out location for some semilocal millionaire or former (read: deposed) dictator of a tiny banana republic somewhere. I'm convinced the CIA shovels all their high-maintenance/profile clientele to the area (if I'm right, Langley, you guys really should hire me).
>might be a relief station for volunteer firefighters :( but I'm going to stay in denial, because there are a few problems with that and my ideas are way cooler
Refrained from pictures of inhabited areas for privacy's (or litigation paranoia's) sake, but compound was complete with:

>(nearly) 360-degree video surveillance
>full razor-wire fence
>~10 lbs spent 5.56 brass in .mil issue cans
>a full workshop complete with lathe, band-saw, etc.
>4+ full external water tanks, easily 10k gallons apiece
>multiple locked garages, but a fully-functioning (or at least looks to be) John Deere outside
>a dozen bunks, all beautifully made (good job lads, nobody knows how to hospital-tuck anymore)
>brand new kitchen with all the amenities
>squeaky clean bathrooms
>shitloads of broken tech
>bunch of NASA posters (!/?)
>technical specs for the facility + various (all well-kept) files
>BONUS: really great local vineyard a few miles off...who can say "POST-APOCALYPTIC RAIDING PARTIES"? Or at least extortion for "protection," if they're boring

Didn't see a generator, but was likely just in a locked section of the place. All in all, fantastic trip.

Just remembered this!

Well, we went back, but things were really freaky this time.

The first thing we noticed was that the lights were on inside, not just in the basement, but also now on the first floor. we could see through the windows very clearly.

We kept walking around and noticed there was a lot more graffiti then last time, and then we noticed one final thing:

there was now a metal sheet covering the bottom part of the doors.

So our assumption is that in the timegap, some jackass cut open the door, crawled in, and probably spray painted on the inside of the building. So the land owners had to deal with all that and left the lights on to scare people from coming in.

And scare people it did, because my other 3 friends (one came back for this in particular) all started freaking out badly. They were worried someone was in there, that there were security systems, etc. I couldn't exactly force them to go through with this, so we eventually just left and went home.

It's honestly pretty sad, and it doesn't seem like anyone wants to go back any time soon, which bothers me because I don't believe that there was anything dangerous in that situation. Odds are they just turned the lights on to keep people out, and guess what? It worked.

Does anyone know of any good urbanEx in or around NYC?
>>
>>867041
I don't know off-hand.

But I'd like to say that the thing about asking where to go is that you'll usually only get generic answers and locations that are heavily trafficked as is. The more a location is advertised, the more it becomes trespassed, to the point where vandals and police have swarmed it.

Anyone here in NM? Abq here

Would love to find some old buildings where I could squat and drink vodka.

Getting a truck soon, so I'm hoping to find areas that are out of the way enough that I wouldn't be noticed. Bonus if remote enough that I could camp and do some shooting/rabbit hunting

But anything cool to just explore a bit is good too

Not from here so I don't know of any spots

no cage because there's a cable safety... looks like there's one on the pegs too (which is kind of unusual).

Secure your cable climber to the cable, carabiner between that and your harness.
Climber drags up the cable as you ascend, but locks if you pull downwards on it.
Grab it and slide it upwards, then you can sit back in your harness and take a break as you climb.

Can still use a double tie off lanyard (that's what's usually done on pegs), just a little more time-consuming for 100% tie-off as you climb.... which is why the pro guys "free climb" then tie off to take a break.

Hard hat/helmet if you're on the ground under someone working at height.

I used to do UE with my best buddies years ago in NYC but we all kinda drifted apart and lost interest over the years. we used to hop freights, explore active/live subway tunnels (lots of cool historic graffiti down there like the REVs Diaries), abandoned subway stations, above ground power stations, bridges etc etc.

i kinda wanna get back into it now.. trying to get my partner interested again too. and maybe check out those psych wards and hospitals outside of the city radius

i can dump some old pics from our adventures if anyone is interested

also if anyone actively does UE in the NYC area feel free to give a shout out! :-)
>>
I can guess you've guys get this a lot, so I apologize in advance.

I've been interested in urban exploration for a while, but I can't seem to find anything in my area; central Texas seems to alternate between heavily-occupied urban areas and rural nothing, with nothing in-between to go lurking through. The only forum/site that lists areas hasn't been updated since early 2010s, and even those says everything's been torn down.

Assuming I'm right and there is nothing in my immediate area, how do/would you guys deal with that situation?
>>
Found some kickass mineshafts in tooele county, utah a few months back.

No pics but i plan on going back on the 15th to camp with gf.

One had a small entrance but went extremely deep. We noticed our breathing was becoming heavy so we decided to turn back. Is it possible to lose oxygen when you go deep underground?

I also visited numerous ghost towns in eastern utah around iron county. No pics from there either. Wish i could find them.
>>
>>869620
There could be natural gas replacing the breathable oxygen. I advise caution and no open flames. Read up on if the mineshaft was closed due to gas leaks.
