You need to read fm 3-21.8 to learn how to actually do infantry stuff

sure thing buddy, is that why your officers come here to get lectured about light infantry?
If you ever spend time in Acadia there is no better choice

No thanks. Louisiana blows.

Clearly referring to the National Park in Maine, not some random parish in Atlantis.

>>845804
What is actually in these books aside from what I've learned from online advice and such?
Mostly an author's personalized way of survival?

I have their book on country wisdom.
>>845818
What is that notebook holder? I'm in the market for something like that.
Would appreciate.
>>846159
I thought you were going to suggest carrying an owl and asking it for wisdom.
>>847646
That...
is not a bad idea!

FM 3-05.70 is the only thing I ever needed for survival.
For living, not just surviving, and for something related exclusively to my neck of the woods, it's Vivre en Foret by Paul Provencher (I live in Quebec.) Old (1973), but very reliable and full of stuff for daily living innawoods.
>>847646
ultralight as fuck
>>846154
That and thrasher apparently
I just got these. Possibly not the best books to get this early but they have piqued my interest for a long time.
I'd like to build up a little library of all this sort of stuff.
>>846872
I've found that most of them have about 85% of the same basic skills in them, 10% of skills that are in other books but done slightly differently, and about 5% of unique useful advice and techniques that the author picked up in some out of the way obscure place.
>>845804
map of the where I am
>>846554
To be honest I've found a lot of the content in this book to be irrelavant for normal /out/ use (where you go out voluntarily). It's more of a handbook in the sence that if you somehow, suddenly need to booby trap your home or have to know how to rappel you can look it up.
Fore general /out/ing I find Ray Mears Essential Bushcraft more relevant, allthough it's more a book you would like to have read than one you would carry around
>>850163
Yeah the SAS book, despite being called a 'handbook' isn't anything of the sort. It covers a lot of stuff, everything from plane crashes, emergency child delivery, making shelters in the snow, and setting up observation nests within an urban setting. If I'm going /out/ I tend to read the area I need as a refresher, that's it.
I take too much pride in my books being in pristine condition. I even read books with the absolute minimal bending of the spine even on hardcovers (which i will pay much extra just to get hardcover copies)
Is this autism?
>>850188
no don't worry, you like nice books, don't bring an expensive book you care about /out/ when you aren't sure you can let it survive 100% health
>>846535
That's Acadiana and Acadia parish isn't worth mentioning.
On a slightly related not, the Scorpion King was hilarious to me due to the whole "last of the acadians" bit. Always gotta be the last of something
>>847646
Owls are retarded. Cool, but retarded.
>>850188
No, it's /lit/.
>>846154

These arrived. The first one is much thinner than the second one. One of them includes a passage on dealing with Aborigines.
Next order to come.
>>854338
So how do you deal with Aborigines?
I wouldn't take this innawoods, but it sure is eye candy.
>don't have access to google innawoods
/g/ here
WTF am I reading?
>>857082
>Not the far superior designs of Olsen Kundig
LOL no
>>854418
One of them talks about how you can spot an Aboriginal camp site and how it's an indicator of useful things nearby. eg. Water.
The other talks about how Aboriginals can be useful to you when /out/ but you have to refrain from looking down on them when they steal your tobacco and whatnot.
>>857123
If you could develop some novel high power cell tower technology that would be great
I don't get 4G signals unless I'm on a mountain peak
>>857394
If it's an actual campsite of one on a nomadic trek, they'll likely be pretty friendly and helpful.
If you stumble upon a community, There's likely to be police not far off or a teacher/nurse with mobile phone that works.
These situations are also only likely to happen in the northern desserts and tropics these days.
>>858998
These books were printed in the 40s and are describing different things.
The campsite one is in one book and it's talking about if you find a deserted campsite. Indicators of what might be around. eg. If there's shells maybe you can get some food that way nearby.
The other is describing encounters with Aboriginals out in the bush.
Industrial society and its future

What's with the spiral bindings? Is it because they're cheaper or because it's harder for wind to blow that shit everywhere?
I saw that even the 1911 editions have optional spiral bindings.
Any good Fictional books you people like to read while out?
The Best of the Realms series is pretty good, just a collection of short stories from Wizards of the Coast authors.
Recently started reading The Smoke Jumper which is pretty neat but kinda dramatic, and picked up a book called California at the library today about a couple living in a post society collapse LA area and they end up needing to join a settlement and shit gets crazy.
I've tried reading John Muirs writings but i feel like they're boring as fuck without being where he was and seeing the same shit. but i've also never had an affliction for non-fiction
>>845804
Not a guide, but still a damn good read.
>>861182
Shit im an idiot
>mobile app
>>845804
Normally I wouldent need one. Ive been going deep /out/ since the age of 5.
That said, I enjoyed tent life in siberia and The long walk for /out/ lit. In general, I enjoy the entire western canon, and I got very specifically into the essential american canon.
How to survive in the woods is ok too
>>845816
Whoever designed the cover should be shot

Perhaps kindle readers are bothered by irl books because a motivation for them to get kindle is they didn't have the money to buy all the ones they want irl and with the ease and merit of kindle they came to resent bookfags.
Would anyone recommend dave canterbury bushcraft books for an aspiring /out/ist?
>>854338
That deskbound book is sad, I hate sitting down all day being a slave to some faggot. I wanna /out/ more.
>>846004
Infantry officer here, currently working as a COLT fires officer. Neither me nor my peers have ever been to Sweden to get "lectured". We have some Nords and Brits come to Bragg to get learned on though.
