I live in Westchester county NY, whenever I go innawoods or a hiking trail I get ambushed by gnats or whatever those annoying fucks are called
They buzz In my ear, they land on my sweaty neck, they are just complete assholes
What do I need to keep these fuckers away? Deet?
Do I just have to wait until fall/winter to make hiking/innawoods bearable?

You can get them at Walmart, and pretty much any sporting goods place that is worthy of the title. Just don't spray it with deet, depending on the fabric deet with destroy it.

Soak your clothes with permethrin.
It's an insect repellent that you wet your clothes woth and let dry. After that you're fine to wear the clothes. Wear a hat treated with it and they will leave your head alone. It works really well to treat your bug net with it as well.
