Hey fellas.

Lets make it a threads about the incoming meteor shower.

I've been doing some basic stargazing learning last week and going to watch it tomorrow night, will put pictures later.

Also got a question - do I read a star chart (pic related) when its above my head with N, S, W, E fixed towards N, S, W, E, imagining the 2D map is a dome?

yes. notice how e-w are swapped in orientation relative to n-s

OP here, thanks.

I am going to this desert city where they put all the lights off these days so people would see it real good.

Last time I been there I saw like thousands of stars, what an amazing thing

Have you watched a meteor shower from there?

I tried to watch some of this shower a year or two ago and it was cool but not nearly as exciting as I expected. I do live in an urban area but if I'm looking to the east a bit over the ocean, the light pollution isn't terrible.

I also never knew you could actually see the Milky Way until I was moving down here and my Penske truck broke down somewhere between Orlando and the East Coast. I suppose those meteors would be a bit brighter if I went somewhere like that.

You cant see much when in a city.. maybe the brightest stars (Vega,Polaris and Deneb) and brightest meteors.

Catch a good darky place in the middle of nowhere, and you will see 2-3 meteors every minuet..

You're aware that Perseids has been tossing particles about for like 3 weeks now, right?
Peak is about to happen, not the shower itself.
You don't need a star chart to 'see' Perseids. Just look up. IIRC more to the west/north but I'm not 100% sure of that. Been awhile since I looked that up.

Ehh, at the peak when everything was just east over the ocean I was seeing something like that. I just expected it to be quite a bit more than that. I'm sure I would see a few more going somewhere real dark but for 2 or 3 a minute I'm not going to make a big trip out of it.

The peak is peedicted tonight.

The radiant originates from the constellation Perseus.

The meaty ores will be visable in any part of the sky.

> keep looking up!
RIP Jack.

I don't know much about meteor showers, and I didn't even know this one was going to occur. I just looked up in the sky randomly at about 3AM last night and saw one, so I went up on the roof of my house and watched them

It was really badass, I've never seen such bright, vivid shooting stars before.

Will tonight have similarly impressive shooting stars? Or will it be much weaker than last night? Just wondering because I'm planning on bringing a chair up onto my roof and getting comfy, but I might reconsider, if tonight's shower is going to be a big letdown compared to last night's
