Just bought this. Did i do good?
Also knife thread
>there already is a knife thread
No its dream knives
got my first spots of rust on my ESEE 6 after atleast 4 years, feels good having kept it rust free so far, feels bad that it has tiny rust spots now
not really sure on how to go about it, with the blade coating and all, will post a pic or two tomorrow
>>833281
howcome you guys never buy semi-serrated? in the knife threads the amount of semi-serrated blades is always minimal.
>>833284
well. ive only just now with having bought a leatherman wave experiance serrated blades, its just. .. specialized i guess, is very marginally better at cutting rope and fabric, but it cant do what a perfectly normal blade can, now that waves serrated blade is only ground on one side so i cant get the full picture,
where you can put the most power behind a cut is the part of a blade where serrations are most commonly placed,
personally, since i dont skin much a blade with the serrations towards the tip would atleast be slightly interesting
>>833284
Serrations are mostly good for cutting cordage, plastic wrap, erc even if the knife isn't very sharp. That's not what you usually need outdoors. They just reduce the useful length of the blade, and they're usually at the base, where you want a straight edge if you do any wood carving.
I did buy a semi serrated to keep clipped to my life jacket though.
>>833288
>>833296
is it ground on both sides? or are serretions only ground one way like on the leatherman wave?
>>833283
Op here. What's the best way to keep it clean and rust free for a while? Any tips/tricks?

Same with my izula. Great knives though.
How do i learn to sharpen knife
>>833284
Sucks for push cuts since you can't use the base of the blade.
>>833391
By doing it.
Start on a beat up old kitchen knife or a mora, swiss army, or what ever else you don't care about. Flat grind and Scandinavian grinds will be easiest.

>>833284
serrated blades are for people that don't know how to sharpen knives. They're shit for push cutting/carving wood and batoning. And if you know how to keep your knife sharp in the field you can cut through shit like rope easily.
Check out the custom knife scene. Very very little love for serrated edges because they under perform. They're a way to put a cheap aggressive edge on shit steel.
>>833653
Great choice if you hate edge retention.
420HC at around 55RHC is shit tier for edge retention.
>>833652
I actually really liked the Gerber Moment, carried it errday until I did a stupid thing and took a bite out of the blade. Pic unrelated.
>>833284
>howcome you guys never buy semi-serrated?
A lot of people don't really have use for serrations, in my experience they're best reserved for cutting materials that would fuck up a fine edge and generally you don't do much of that when /out/.
Back when I worked in construction I used the shit out of half serrated pocket knives for things like masonite, but even then that was just if I didn't have time to get the proper tools.
if people actually spelled that shit right this wouldn't be a fucking problem.
I picked up this Kellam folder (VG10) despite there not being any reviews online. Folks here seem to love their pukkos, so I bought it impulsively. It's a really well made folder.
>>833760
>less than $40
>not a Mora
Just spend a bit of extra cash on a Kabar or an Esee. Trust me, they'll last a pretty long time, they're great knives, and it's only like $30 more. BK16 by Kabar is a pretty good choice.
>>834452
It's a knife. It cuts things. Dick Proenneke isn't going to jump out of the Bush and Sperg about your blade profile if it does what you want it to.

Condor bushlore. Its a good all purpose knife: Round belly can be used for skinning, point can be used for making holes and stabbing, scandi grind is good for wood processing, full tang so it wont break if you **must** baton wood. Otherwise get a mora, its all you really need. Spend your extra money on an axe or hatchet which will be much better than a big ass bowie tacticool knife.

OP can you horizontal carry an ESEE from the factory or do you need a sheath attachment of some kind?
>>833284
Don't really need serrated unless you plan on cutting cord (yes, there's cord that a standard edge will struggle on where sawing with serrations will get through it quick).
So, it depends on what you want to do.
When I go caving and use rope, I always have a serrated folder or Mora Rope nearby.
>>837248
No. That's just a dull plain edge.
>>833283
>rust free after 4 years
How the hell did you manage that? Just looking at my Junglas made it rust.
>>833284
its because the serrated section is always on the most used part of the blade. You trade that for a marginally better rope/fiber cutting capabilities.
Also, its a pain in the ass to sharpen
>Looking for a full-tang ~3.5" drop point sheath knife with checkered wood scales, a thumb grip and a finger groove

I'm using the one from the factory but you have to mod it a bit. Just screw around with the angles, u can get a diagonal configuration and the weight of the handle makes it horizontal. You can also use the provided paracord to make some horizontal belt straps.
Get a tek lok tho if any of that really bothers you.

but you can kinda see the rust probably most on the logo, some of the cutting edge has petina so it might be dificult to see, its not bad though itl wear off with use
to inject a little bit of life into this thread, il be going away for about 6 months to an outdoor focussed school, not even sure there is an english language equivalent, google translate says its a high school, but isnt high school in the American and English sense for like 11-19 year olds? irrelevant language stuff aside,

It's four years in American, about 14-18. I don't think there's an equivalent word in English.
Anyway, I'd always take a bigger knife for general purpose use. The leverage is worth it to me and I don't mind holding by the back of the blade.
>>836661
nice anon - tell us about how you made it
>>837318
>No. That's just a dull plain edge.
A plain edge is more versatile definitely, but a serrated knife isn't as limited as people commonly say and has a few advantages.
"Anything a serrated edge can do a plain edge can do better" has been said ad nauseam, but it's not exactly true.
>>838530
I notice you're not levying any counterargument.
>>838530
serrations rip through material more easily.
>>838547
Straight edges cut through material more easily.
>>838530
If you can field sharpen your knife with reasonable ease, a plain edge is much.
If you can't field sharpen your edge and you jerk off to MLP, a bread-knife edge is probably best for you.
>>838527
forged it to rough shape including bevels. then draw filed the bevels with a bastard file. then hand sanded the bevels, heat treated. then resanded the bevels to 800 and buffed to mirror polish. then i made the handle from on old hickory axe handle with some brass pins.
you've got a knife. congratulations...
>>838530
Advantages like being a huge pain to sharpen, tearing material instead of cutting it cleanly, snagging like a bitch on things, etc.
Meanwhile a pocket DMT pocket stone will trivially keep a coarse edge screaming sharp.
>>833760
Condor Bushcraft or Rodan
>>838546
>I notice you're not levying any counterargument.
Serrations do better on certain ropes. For example, types of maritime rope have thicker outer coatings. Once a plain edge dulls, a serrated knife will keep on cutting since it requires less force to make the cut.
The points also can save the edge on the scallops. Cutting a steak on ceramic plate will dull the blade on plain edge a lot faster, but the serrated will keep cutting since it's the points taking the damage while the scallops are still sharp.
>>838710
>Advantages like being a huge pain to sharpen
Git gud. There's a learning curve to it, but if you can get competent enough at maintaining a consistent angle with a stone you can do the same thing with a diamond rod or file.
>tearing material instead of cutting it cleanly
Since you think serrations are a bitch to sharpen, you probably have never had polished serrated that can cut something cleanly.
>snagging like a bitch on things
True, but depends on the material and the type of serrations. Not all serrated patterns are created equal.
Serrations aren't the end-all be-all. They suck at push cuts, they can snag as already mentioned, etc. They're just not as bad as people say they are.
>>835639
oil it with what?
I have a morakniv currently. I'm wondering if there is a similarly cheap knife I can buy made only of natural materials like wood. What does /out/ recommend for a poorfag who wants a wood handled blade?
Ok so I'm new to the knife game and just got pic related for ultralight purposes but I'm also wanting to get a mora companion for a lil more heavy duty purposes than the opinel can handle... Anyway, how do I take care of a knife? What sharpener should I get? What oil do I get or do I need?
>>838832
I'd like to know as well
>>838829
Mineral oil works. You can get some in the laxative section of the grocery store or pharmacy. Shouldn't cost too much and it should last awhile.
Camellia oil also works. It's what was historically used by Japanese people for their knives and swords.
>>838832
I collect inexpensive pocket knives from other countries (mainly through the internet because I'm fellow poorfag).
I focus on folding knives mainly.
>Svord Peasant knife
>Opinel
>Aitor Castor
>MAM of Portugal
I don't really know of many Mora priced fixed blades (I'm thinking sub-$20) other than Moras and similar Scandinavian blades.
Old Hickory blades from Ontario are pretty popular, but I've never owned one.
Tramonita and Imacasa machetes are pretty cheap too.
>>838833
>how do I take care of a knife
Keep it clean, oil it every now and then, and keep it sharp. If you live near water, you're going to have to be a bit more proactive when it comes to staving off rust, but that's about it.
>what sharpener
Depends on what you want to do. Stones take time to learn, but once you get it down, you can sharpen with pretty much anything. Guided systems take most of the guess work, but you won't really get any transferable skills and they tend to take more time.
A casual user might be better off with a guided system since they're not going to use their knives a ton anyway. If you're using knives a lot, you might want to consider learning how to freehand.
>what oil
see above
>>838841
>I don't really know of many Mora priced fixed blades (I'm thinking sub-$20) other than Moras and similar Scandinavian blades.
I saw the Condor Bushlore mentioned in the previous thread and heard good things. Thanks for your reply but if I was willing to drop say around 30-45 dollars what you would recommend?
>>838832
Mora classic
>>838844
Condor is a solid choice at that price range. I think Svord has a few wood handled fixed blades at that price. You could also get a slightly more upscale Scandi knife.
>>838854
This is impeccable.
>>838833
I just bought the sam knife a few days ago; one tip is dont get the handle wet, ever. I rinsed it off and dried it, but the handle absorbed quite a bit of water which made it swell, and made the blade almost impossible to open. I kept the blade closed for a couple of hours while it was still "wet" and some pin points of rust developed.
Keep it oiled and away from water and it should be fine.
I'll post some pics of this knife my great grandfather made and passed down to all his children.
Handle is antler

>>838072
nice patina. Why did you strip the coating if you live in a coastal area? Thats just asking for trouble
What's the best knife I can get at REI? All of these made my self-conscious of mine.
>>838826
They are a pain to sharpen because they are time consuming, nor because they are difficult.
Why bother when you could sharpen a plain edge with a coarse stone in literally a minute and get an edge that outperforms serrations at literally everything?
>>833631
I haven't seen this before although I live in Finland and Moras are sold in many stores. There was once an idea presented in some batoning thread how a simple chisel would be the ultimate survival tool, better tool than any batoning knife because it won't break, won't stress your wrist/hand and sharpening is fast and easy.
I admit that is not a good blade shape for general use but it can be used as a chisel. That outweights the negatives. I don't know what's inside the handle but if it's like a normal chisel there should be no fear of it ever breaking if used in sensible manner. Also it has a scandi grind and I can assume that knife is one of the easiest to sharpen.
>>838943
the best knives that REI carries are Benchmade
it seems like they usually have a few models
>>838925
That's a nice as knife. Are you native american by chance? That's my dream knife. I've been really obsessed with deer lately esp, deer spirit.
>>838833
>>838841
Don't smother an opinel's handle with mineral oil, otherwise you'll get the same problem as>>838901
only with thin oil instead of water causing the wood to swell and jam. Some people use beeswax to try to seal the ends and stop water absorption. Personally I think inox+plastic handle for an abusable, "wet" knife, carbone+wood reserved for sharpened ordinary use, is best approach.
Guys, found this somewhere in the woods of norway.
My question, is it full tang and is it a good knife to keep?
Seems like it's a Brusletto (hunter)
What do you guys think of the Benchmade Bushcrafter?
>>839070
You found an invisible knife OP. That's impressive!
>>839136
I've heard lots of good things. If you want a stainless bushcraft knife you could do much worse. The only bad things ive heard are to do with the leather sheath which is apparently badly designed. So either go with the kydex or just put up with it, Or get a custom one.
>>839163
Is there some solid reasoning behind having a stainless or carbon steel bushcrafting knife? My metallurgy skills are non-existent.
>>838925
Nah I'm not native, my great grandpa was just obsessed with the outdoors and native culture.
>>839166
Well one of the big arguments is about rust-resistance. If you live somewhere where it rains a lot or is humid it may be a better idea to get a stainless knife because they are less likely to rust. If you buy a carbon knife you need to make sure that you keep them clean, dry and wiped down with oil to make sure they don't pick up any rust, which is why a lot of people prefer stainless. Saying that, you can usually get carbon steel to a sharper edge, and they are much easier to sharpen. The edge retention is okay, too. Stainless steel blades can be a bitch to sharpen up to a similar edge to carbon. Edge retention varies from steel to steel. Some stainless knives will hold their edge better than some carbon one and vice versa.
>>839183
Example: 420HC. This is the primary steel used by Buck. It's excellent at corrosion resistance, but shit at edge retention.
Esee's are typically made from 1095, tempered down to the mid-to-low 50's RHC. It's easier to sharpen, but because it's so soft it's shitty at edge retention too.
The Swedish stainless steels are a good compromise between sharpenability and rust resistance, but factory knives tend to be little soft so they suffer in the edge retention department.
I prefer custom made knives because you can have them any way you want, like hard enough to hold an edge because I'm not some faggot that batons or uses my knife like a pry bar.
>>833653
I have one, And I fear the day it's going to fold up onto itself.

Fingerprints can cause rust depending on how acidic your sweat is
It's the main form of rust behind it being wet/damp, and lots of people don't know about it.
>>840380
I thought it was the salt in sweat and all those ions and shit, not the acidity, that rusted things? Part of the reason lots of stuff near the sea spray is rusty as all get out. At least that's what I always assumed, I may be wrong about that.
>>840282
I order from cuttingedgeknives.com.au
A little slow to deliver, but they stock pretty much everything.
>>840383
When I did muh gunsmith course, they said acid in sweat.
I know for a fact that fingerprints can cause rust on carbon steel, though, whatever the cause.
>>840386
Oh, alright then, good to know.
>>840383
acidity is the measure of those ions
>>840457
I thought Ph was the measure of imbalance in ion charges, not strictly speaking the amount of them in solution.
Oh well, I'm a dumbass so I'm probably wrong anyhow.
>>840377
Ahh right, I'm in Perth and the company I use local to me is Granbergs, not sure if that helps you or not though, I've no idea what the local market is like in SA.
>>839920
And what's ripping? That's right it's cutting.
>>840553
I'd say ripping is causing a material to break itself due to exploiting or creating weaknesses in the material that then become bigger and bigger.
Cutting would be to use another material to separate two otherwise strong sections of material from each other.

I just never ever use the serrated blade and it's just a hassle to clean/maintain so never get one with it personally. This is my current favorite. Real simple and one of the last of this line made in the US before they outsource manufacturing to one of those loser countries and the quality takes a nosedive. Real nice knife. Heavy and low maintenance.
>>840958
I mean for the eventual derusting/polishing. It's a small complaint, if you get use out of it by all means get one. I just personally never use it. Have a couple serrated and use them less than others. Have this one knife I found on the beach that's older than time itself that I still use. They don't make them like that anymore.

>>841268
I can probably squeeze it in while flaccid, yeah. Not gonna try it though.
>>840553
Ripping is like violently cutting and leaving a coarse cut, whereas cutting with a sharp blade leaves a fine cut and actually "splits" fibers rather than tears them
>>840946
Honestly 99.9% of sawbacks are shit, they don't cut anything very well and get stuck in material too quick. It's hard to make a proper saw back on the knife and if you have a leather sheath that'll just tear it up eventually
Hey /out/, anyone know of a good pocket knife that has a saw, nail filer, and locking blade that's also reasonably cheap/not shit? Bonus points the longer the blade is.
I was thinking of the the SAK Evogrip S18, but it's a bit pricey for what I need.

Are any of the old Solingen/Gutmann/Edge brand bowies you see on eBay any good? I can't find much about them.
>>839297
n690, n695, k110 all the way.
what are the meme knives ?
#iLikeMyBK2
>>844536
The best Bowie i ever used was a modern Eickhorn GBK.
>>843648
Kek
I've seen them on e-bay a lot for around 15 dollars. Do they lock?
>>844612
Mora is probably your /out/ meme knife brand
Which I don't mind, as they're good in quality and cost; it allows someone just getting into the outdoors to get a workable knife on a budget.
Classic and Companion seems to be the common ones people have around here.
ESSE, RAT, and Becker are your higher end meme ones from what I've seen around here. They're good knives too.
>>844818
Opinel too for a basic folder
>>833284
>semi-serrated
fucking up the best part of the blade with serrations? that's just retarded anon.
Anyone ever bought a Lapin Puukko? I've had one for a while and like it pretty well, just curious about others' experiences.
>>842008
They can, they don't though, at least not with cheaper blades
>>845513
Never owned one from Lapin but i own one from Paaso Puukkot and it's a pretty god tier and awesome blade, you should get one if you want it but they shouldn't be used for stabbing for obvious reasons and they aren't meant for abuse
crotalus with its stupid finish stripped,
hasnt rusted on me yet either
Hey guys, I recently lost another knife to TSA, and this time it was a favorite gardening knife. So now I need a knife with the following characteristics:
Full-tang bowie (or similar) about as long as a pornstar
Relatively thick blade
Durable steel - not necessarily hard/high carbon since I need it to take a beating without chipping but don't particularly need it to be sharp. Probably a spring steel, but chinese might be good enough for this. Just as long as it's not some cooking or operator steel that chips easy.
Grip that won't make my hand sweat, so probably some kind of plastic with grooves.
Cheap - not because I can't afford to pay, but because if it was an expensive knife, I'd baby it too much and it'd end up less useful to me. That's probably the most important part, psychological details are harder to overcome than physical.
Would also be nice to have:
A decent weight pommel, because otherwise it'd be inconveniently balanced and sometimes it's easier to use what's at hand than to go get a hammer.
A crossguard and a bit of unsharpened steel near it, because I like to loop my index finger around that.
Does anybody know of a knife that more or less fits this profile?
Either one.
I have the LMF version.
I want at least one BMF, preferably without the saw teeth.
>>848170
Buck 119? Dunno about the sweat thing though
>>846611
I dislike the coatings they put on many of their knives too; many other brands do it too
Should just be plain old steel
>>848170
Basic KA-BAR would work fine
>>848362
im gonna get a bunch of condors/other knives with coatings and give them mirror polishes with up to 3000 grit sandpaper,
most turn out beautiful and bring out (IMO) the most appealing look
>>848170
Schrade SCHF45 ticks all the boxes except for the pommel and handle, it's not a grivory kabar handle but some kind of rubbery TPE afaik. ~ $50. I wouldn't use a plastic handle for hacking stuff because it could fly off, yeah ofc you can use lanyard or gloves but it's better when the knife sticks to your hand by default. Also look at the Kershaw Camp series, 10 might suit you. However from watching reviews and tests, the 65MN tool steel is inferior than Schrade's 8Cr13MoV in terms of chipping. Seems gimicky. SOG Jungle Canopy is something to consider too.
They're all in the same price range.
Anyway there's my $0.02
>>833631
I want this for my fieldwork knife. I bet it will work well for shale and mudstone
>>848170
Ontario SP10 marine raider Bowie, i love mine,
highly recommend it!
>>848170
nah bro don't listen to these brand kiddies. get a Romanian AK bayonet off amazon. Should be 10-18 dollars. Thick durable steel, clipping saw blade on lower half of spine, and wire cutters (bottle opener). Solid knife, bad ass to look at, and you'll feel like mad max
>>848387
> the 65MN tool steel is inferior than Schrade's 8Cr13MoV in terms of chipping
The only way this is remotely possible is if Kershaw fucked their heat treat or Schrade has theirs treated so soft it won't chip, or hold an edge. 65mn is just the Chinese equivalent of the basic carbon steel 1060/1065 which is not in the slightest bit chippy.
>>846611
Looks like shit.
Hey guys, just lost my knife and was going to buy a new one, stuff for gen purpose and self defense
I used a S&W borderguard knife, half serated, window basher, seatbelt cutter, 4 inch blade, it was great
Only issue was that the blade didnt have a little lever on it that would let me extend the blade with my thumb
It really bothered me that i had to use both hands to open it
Any suggestions?
>>842189
mfw japan knife laws make it so that thugs in japan starts fights with tiny knives like this
Okay knife fags, I've been out the knife whoring game for a while but I'm getting that itch and I dunno what to do.
I love that Condor Primitive Knife, but the 420HC was shitty. Now they've released a 1075 version but it's not yet available in the UK and no doubt will be inflated in price (90quid for the first one! they're only like 60 dollars in the states ffs)
But it's pretty faggy having someones name on it, the hole in the knife looks stupid, and I'm not a big fan of micarta scales, either, desu.
What should I buy instead? I'm seriously considering picking up a Wetterlings hatchet as I can't find any big knives that really appeal.
Looking for,
>Convex or Scandi - NO flat ground secondary bevel pish
>Simple well treated tool steel - NO super CPM3V shit, no crappy stainless
>6-8'' blade length
>wooden handle
>under 100 quid
Part of me thinks I should just get a leuku but a zero ground scandi doesn't seem like the best idea for a blade that'll be doing some chopping.
>>848459
Not the other guy, but it would hardly be the first time KAI fucked up a heat treat. They have developed something of a reputation for some questionable HT choices and poor QC of those heat treats. Especially on their Chinese made blades.
>>848473
its not supposed to look nice princess
>>848517
This is in comparison to Schrade and comparing a simple mid carbon steel to a 440b equiv stainless, I'd trust Kershaw a hundred times over given those circumstances.
>>848387
>I wouldn't use a plastic handle for hacking stuff because it could fly off
The knife this is replacing had a plastic handle, I used it a hell of a lot and I can't even conceive of how this would happen.
>>848426
Looks solid, and cheapest one that doesn't look like a flimsy piece of shit. Gonna give it a shot. If I somehow find it inadequate, the 119 or kabar would be next on the list, but
>>848539
Well yeah, cause you suck at what you did. Be dif if you actually used it and made the coating wear off from it like that. It's like you purposely tried to make it use. So fuck off faggot.
>>848459
Should've clarified, the schf45 seemed more high quality than the Kershaw Camp series, but looking at the ratio of the positive and negative reviews on amazon I'll have to say that the Kershaw Camp 10 has less HT issues than the SCHF45. Pity.
>>848567
My mistake. However the Leroy seems to perform better in batoning and chopping than the Camp 10 which is why I like it so much.
>>833281
Condor knife I'm working on atm.
>>848575
Another pic. My camera is not doing justice on the Patina I'm doing.
>>848576
How do you do it? Vinegar + battery etching?
>>848575
Why does it look like you buried it in the yard for a few years?
>>848585
I have multiple ways. I never do the battery one. The one in my pics was done with mustard.
If I want a very clear, very detailed design like pic related. I use finger nail polish and ferric chloride. Which be careful with that. If it gets on your skin, it turns it black for a month.
>>848512
bk9.
buck hoodlum
gek 2000 (my favorite)
>>848608
Love the BK 9. Pic related. A modded one I did that I was gonna gift to a guy on here. My email was hacked, I lost his info :(
>>848612
Here is a Bk 15 I did too. Stripped the finish and wet sanded it to a nice satin finish. Coated it like they do with their condor blades.
Really debating on getting a 16 or 17...hell, maybe even a Bk 7, do the same, keep going up in grits with sand paper until I get to like 7k grit, hit it with some polish and buffer and give it a mirror polish.
>>848615
Sucks that they ceased the 15
>>848616
Shit, they did? I need to find another one then. Mine kinda turned more into a desk display. That curve in the blade made it such a beast when it came to wood processing...hell, it worked amazing at skinning too.
>>848615
>>848612
>>848575
Done these three. Soon I'm gonna be taking and modding this.
>>848617
Yeah, one of the few remaining trailing points and they canned it :(
>>848621
Price of them has gone up. Jump.arpund to a few places and all were sold out. Amazon still has some, they want 130 for that. No thanks, if I'm gonna a spend that money, I'm gonna get another Esee.
Anyone buy any knives from Kellam? Been thinking about buying a puukko from them
>>848706
Dude, no one cares. You got a shit knife and your skills at stripping paint sucks. Which I dunno how you can fail at some thing as easy as that.
If you can't handle ppl telling you that your craftsmanship is shit, maybe you shouldn't be posting. All it looks like is you getting butt hurt.
>>848838
top kek keep trying faggot
no please honest to god go on
Looking for a big budget bowie. Schrade SCHF45 or Ontario Marine Raider?
>>849626
Without question the Ontario, 1095 is infinitely better suited to a 10" beater than a 440a equivalent stainless.
Some others to have a look at
>Condor Dundee Bowie - that downward sloping handle would make it a beast for chopping
>Condor Moonstalker Micarta - pic related
>Condor Hudson Bay
Last two aren't exactly Bowie knives but they are big fuck off camp knives, all depends on your taste really.
So if i buy a fallniven f1 off amazon what are my odds of getting a fake? The price seems to go from 150-300 on the listings
Are there any us made knives that are of the same caliber? Some bitch stole my leatherman and i want to replace it with a nice knife
>>849715
>Are there any us made knives that are of the same caliber?
Many
>>849715
i love the fallkniven one of the best knives i ever owned.
i would recommend the cold steel master master hunter or san mai. the linder super edge. or one of my favorite out knives: the real steel bushcraft II.
>>838934
Patinas are better resistant than the coating
>>848404
Get a condor Hudson bay knife instead. Much better and cheaper. I had both sole the Raider
>>833628
I know a guy who ecstatic about showing me his collection of the gerber BG knives and axes they were chipped to death though and I don't think he ever cleaned them.
From that day on anything with the BG logo will always be meme tier shit to me
>>850366
They also look neat.
>>833630
I havent seen your original fish stabbing pic. Can you please post. Always gives me a right gig
For any Ausfags (like anon who posted earlier) who want a taste of good steel that has already bypassed customs then hit up CuttingEdgeKnives
They're located on the gold coast, their variety both industrialized AND custom is absolutely ridiculous and they are very responsive, polite and prompt with correspondence.
Bought many knives from them, my most recent was a SOG Spec Elite II, and they had it send to me in Sydney within a week of ordering it.
Fuck camping stores, fuck disposals, fuck BCF etc etc, Ausfailia is plagued by shit chinese crap unless you can find a good supplier like these boys.
Australian Customs have a long and very comprehensive list of folding knives that they will automatically seize - this includes knives with thumb studs to open. Have a buddy who works for Customs alongside AusPost who gave me a copy years ago and it was astounding. Ordering knives from the States, may as well be ordering an assembled Glock.
>>850604
The import laws changed December 2015, so as far as folders go, Autos, Assisteds and Balisongs are out but thumbstuds, flippers and holes are ok so long as they're manual.
And yeah it's good that we have at least a couple of decent knife dealers, my local in Perth is Granbergs who specialise in European knives and in particular fixed blades from Norway to Italy.
>Also if you can get your supplier to de-assist your folders they will generally pass customs, I've done that 3 times now.
