It can be a sign of autism but not 100% positive, of course. Mostly it has to do with a lot of the more obsessive/meticulous tendencies of autistic kids. My sister has autism and will obsessively arrange her collection of hotwheels and legos. My brother also does this with video tapes and with rocks in the yard of my parents' house (not cairns, though, just lines and lines of rocks) but he has down's syndrome, not autism.
