Coming from /k/ here, and was hoping for some input on trousers for taking innawoods/hiking.

I generally don't go out for long, so I go in jeans. Jeans i understand isn't ideal, especially if camping for several days. Anyways, what do you guys suggest?

A few more good options from a part of my wardrobe. Kooga rugby shorts are nice for thick brush or climbing as they are fairly tough
>>
>>832058
Did it because I'm not familiar with the particular quirks of another board, and in case I ask something that is taboo, etc. From what I can tell /k/ isn't very welcomed here.

Of course "they" are welcome, there is massive overlap/crossover between the boards. Just don't be that annoying guy that announces his special team affiliation. I don't understand why /k/ of all boards breeds people that do this, probably because most of the board are just /r9k/ers that feel at home on /k/ because they have a milsurp field jacket and an airsoft gun.

Arc'Teryx pants are pretty fucking good. Expensive, but well worth the money IMO

I have a pair of their rock climbing pants and they're the comfiest things I've worn on my lower body ever. They also tend to be really lightweight and packable, which is very important on long treks/hikes

Both are good, the one above feels more comfy than this one but gaiters are nice to have. Both have zippers vertically on each side for ventilation which is nice, above ones are less durable but more breathable in the green material (non-G1000).

These are bulletproof no complaints other than it has buttons instead of a zipper. The ones above I have 2 different pairs of the G1000/poly mix and the only issue so far has been the crotch stitching after having for 2-3 years.

If you can get them at half or less than MSRP they are worth it; at retail price not at all.

Does anyone ever go /out/ in crye gear? I was looking at their pants in either Ranger green or black and they look pretty good.

Hoping for some help
I'm in need of some pants that are
1. Pants , work mandates it
2 look relitivley normal, ( once again can't look like too much of a clown at work )
3 dry quickly /wick
4 are light /not warm

I'm often getting soaked and need so.wthing that will dry out faster than typical jeans or other cotton work pants
>>
>>832276
Durribility and cheapness are also factors
Ideally $30 per pair or cheaper if possible and they should hold up when /out/ and about
>>
>>832024
I suggest you have a look in stores that sell outdoor pants. Just browse that shit. There's a ton of options, and many of them will work just fine. You have to decide this yourself, after considering your climate, budget, other needs.

>>832034
I think that's a little unfair, because soldiers spend a lot of time outdoors and milsurp for example works pretty good for civilians as well.

>>832035
It's pricey though, you don't have to spend that much to get pants.

Condor Stealth Operator Pants

Ignore the shitty name, they're good mid price poly cotton trousers with some good features - trouser legs are hemmed to allow a draw cord, double thickness where it matters like on the knees and edge of pocket where you clip your torch/knife, inner pockets inside the thigh pockets, and thick and often belt loops. The D rings that come on them are junk, however.

I have these and they're the perfect blend between comfortable and tough. When both vents on the side are open they're even good for a 30+ °C day. Pockets are well thought out with a small mesh inside to keep smaller things from falling around also when they're fully packed they're not in the way when hiking. Climbed with them and had no problems either. Good allround pants if you can afford them.
>>
>>832499
Bergans make quite similar pants for half the price. For half the price you might not get the exact same quality (as a general rule you get what you pay for), but Bergans still make quality products in my experience.

>>835064
A lot of military gear is or used to be cotton, just look at milsurp, it's just a little old fashioned maybe now that soldiers have gore tex and fancy new fabrics. But people have used cotton as outer layer and made it just fine, it was pretty much the standard a few decades ago. Impregnate it and it's a bit more water resistant. Use rain gear when the rain is really bad, and have wool as inner layer when it's cold.

I got a couple pairs of Duluth pants after seeing them on /out/ a few months ago

They seem solid and I like the reinforced canvas parts.I thought the "gusseted crotch" was a gimmick but you can actually squat/climb/sprawl easily without feeling like you might rip the ass out

Thinking of getting them tapered at the knee so that they are more snug on my boots b/c they have big fatboy pipes at the end and I feel like dirt/rocks get up into my socks/shoes easier than with slimmer jeans

It looks goofy and takes a long time to dry. Other then that's its fine, i got one. Lots of swing room for your dick, put some wax on it to make it water resistant and you're good.

I also got these when they where on sale. The price is a bit steep but they are solid well thought out pants and they look good enough (imo) to be worn for every day use where jeans would be ok to wear.

OP you need to try some joggers by modern amusement.
Reasons why:
look like a badass
contours to your leg so that it does not get caught as easily on things around you (perfect for rock climbing in cooler weather)
the contours give you complete range of motion with extra space if it were possible for you to stretch that far
fast drying
very durable
cuffed at the bottom (joggers, duh) so you can easy pull them over or put them under boots.
>>
Just pack more than one set of clothing for fuck sake. Don't forget to bathe.
>>
>>832165
I'm on the fence about them.

I got them assuming they would be higher quality, and I wanted both the build in knee pads (plus the velcro behind the knee to cinch it in, pure sex) and the velcro cuff, plus the tacticool memeness wasn't out of the question either.

Very comfy, not the lightest /out/ pants you could use, but my knees are rekt so always having a protective cup (in conjunction with thin neoprene knee pads) is paramount to me not keeling over if I kneel on a pebble. My one complaint is the durability wasn't what I thought it was. By the third 5ish mile hike I did in them a 2" length of stitching on the butt blew out, and I had numerous rips and holes in the butt material too (not good considering I only ever stopped to sit on large smooth granite boulders).

I believe they raised the price on them since I got them, I definitely wouldn't have got them for the price they are now.

7/10 bretty good m8 but I assume I would be just as happy with emerson airshit knockoffs since it seems I would have to do the same amount of restitching and patching regardless, but for half the cost.

They are rather heavy and warm though so wouldn't recommend them for a hot summer day-

I personally like the cotton / spandex blend pants meant for people who cycle to work. They look like regular slacks or work pants, but move and breathe very well. If you're in a wet environment, get the nylon variant. I personally prefer the cotton though because it doesn't make a swishing sound.

I dislike anything with cargo pockets or camouflage / tactical styling. Makes you look like a fucking manchild.

The worst offenders are "bushcraft" pants though. Like that Fjallraven shit. Nobody should be trying that hard.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this but .02$, I've a pair of north face convertible water resistant/quick dry pants that I've had for ~5 years and have taken a hell of a beating from jellystone to Moab to N woods of MI to trout fishing/innawoods WI to everyday wear and tear. They're my sole out trousers. Not cheap, but they've done me well. Patagucci makes some good gear too, as well as mountain hardware, as well as OR, again, not cheap, but quality. I've been disappointed w 'gucci in the last several years tho, as well as NF, their gear is becoming more posuer 'urban-out' than out, you've gotta be selective and do the homework; to that end this site is a bretty gud resource: http://outdoorgearlab.com
>>
>>845116
The reason people like to trash on North Face or Fjällraven is because it's expensive and of course we'd like to have everything for dirt cheap regardless of quality, another reason is because hipster rich kids started wearing it which triggers outdoors people for some reason or another

That pic made me angry
Whenever I see skinny little fuckboys out playing operator it makes me angry.
If somebody wants that life, they can train for a few years and OP40 or NSWSO it up. I dont see why they take any enjoyment out of autistically pretending to be soldiers.

As for the actual thread, any milsurp pants you can find at an army surplus work well.Baggy jeans always work for me, just expect them to get torn up.
>>
>>845397
While I hate you for wearing baggy jeans while /out/, I agree with your original sentiment entirely.

>>
>>845518
Yeah but the forest service's main purpose wasn't to go outside and enjoy nature and be comfortable, it was to clear paths and do foresty shit and get the job done, regardless of comfort.
>>845397
Why do people get so caught up on what others wear? Some guys just like pretending to be operators without the risk of being shot by commies or they're practicing/playing out their fantasy of SHTF. Kinda hypocritical for you to say military gear is stupid yet you're literally recommending milsurp kit, which is often camo, so either you're retarded or you can't make your mind up, but if you actually hated it you wouldn't be recommending people milsurp kit.
>>
>>839076
Don't have to be in Australia to wince at the price.
>>
>>845120
It isn't that North Face or Fjallraven are too expensive, it's that for the same price you can probably find a better piece of gear.

Milsurp kit has a function.
There is nothing wrong with wearing an m65 and camo pants, because they are useful.
There is nothing wrong with taking a rifle out into the woods for hunting.
But If I see a guy wearing an M65, I dont think he is playing soldier, I simply see a guy in an m65
The guy in the OP pic is obviously playing soldier.
And guys like that all follow a certain mindset, they were physically and mentally too weak to ever make something of themselves, so they go and pretend and meanwhile tell any real soldier they are dying for the jews. One could say im projecting, but ive seen hundreds of people that follow the exact same pattern. They start out as a skinny teenager talking about gaining weight and training for BUDS, then they drown proof themselves a few times go to a recruiter, and get denied because the recruiter looks them up and down and tells them to fuck off.
When a candidate looks like he has a chance of making it, the recruiter will help him lie about any medical problem, do a fuckload of paperwork for him, and make sure he gets through, but these guys just get flat out denied because they arent gritty enough.
From here, they either enlist 11b and mop floors for a few years before getting a General Discharge, or just NEET or job it up and buy plate carriers and needlessly expensive guns with their parents money.
Go on /k/ and see for yourself. There is an entire generation of 20 something failures that just play around with guns and gear and act like theyre doing something.
In the DEP ive had to deal with so many fucks like this, and they ALL dropped. 100% of them left the fucking DEP because PTs were too hard for them. And these shits thought they would actually get to the real deal.
Point is, I highly dislike a certain type of person, and when I see a person following a number of signs that would classify them as that type, I dislike them.
What if you saw a fat girl with dyed hair, SJW glasses, and a choker?

They're great for sport climbing and bouldering though. The material is super stretchy.
