cool beans OP! that stand of pines is a got damb forest fire waiting to happen. be careful!
>>
>>830971
About a week, still need to thatch the roof better but i couldn't wait to take some pics

>>830972
Yeah that does worry me a bit, plus its super dry right now. I think ill hold off on campfires until it rains
>>
>>830961
Holy fucking shit op, nice. I suggest adding some more coverage to the roof, pine bows are good. What tools did you use?
>>
>>830976
>>830966
>>830961
You'd better make some sort of incline for that roof. Otherwise, you'll just have thatch-filtered rain water dripping on you all the time.
>>
>>830961
Slick. Going to add thatch walls?
>>
>>831048
Saw, rope, shovel, beer, and a few boards and nails I salvaged from an old boardwalk

>>831069
It's kinda hard to tell but it's sloped to the back (first pic). the roof thatching will run perpendicular to the sticks on the roof so rainwater will flow down the swamp grass and off the back

>>831347
on the fence imma weave sticks along the lower half, not really sure on what to do for the building walls yet, probably thatching
>>
>>830966
>>830961

One day you say? Be careful you might be the next Noah!

He said about a week anon. At least lightly peruse the thread, or have your assistant do so, before you deride.

You misunderstand. Thatched roofs are very steep. Check out these to see tons of examples.

>>
>>833708
This anon is right OP. If your thatch roof isn't steep as fuck the roof will not only leak, it'll rot. Do it properly and it'll actually be a working roof.

On the plus side, you created an actual house.
On the down side, you created the perfect house for bugs and spiders and it'll quickly need to be burned to the ground
>>
>>833708
yeah this, sadly. the roof needs to be steeper than REI's prices or else
>>
>>833735
>>833734
>>833708
This is very good to know, thanks guys. Looks like I'll be remodeling my roof today. If I raise one end of the roof by about 3-4 feet I think it should be enough. anything I can do to prevent leaking other than thickening the thatch?
>>
>>833734
also, bugs and spiders don't bother me, I walk all over them every day
>>
>>835009
That will be good, if you have enough length left in your logs, though you can lash more log to them and extend them I suppose.

Wind blown rain will be the worst of your problems. If you have walls that can take care of that you should be fine.
>>
got more pics OP? pretty cool project
>>
>>830961
Very nice!
What did you use to stick them together? Lashings?
>>
>>830961
>>830966
Is this on your own land?
>>
>>835825
Lol
>Brb, gotta go walk through my forest and check if any of those damn city kids are making forts again.
>>
>>835952
Lol i was just wondering if this type of this is legal/allowed in national forests/parks cause i dont have any land like that.
>>
>>835825
>>836000
You just go in woods and do it. I wouldn't leave any valuables though.
If you ever get caught there you just say "look what I found, isnt it cool?".
>>
>>836000
It's legal and allowed everywhere except California
>>
>>835952
K I checked my forest.
Didn't find OP's fort.
I did find the tree that came crashing down the other day (made one hell of a noise).
>>
>>836048
Incorrect. Bushcraft is only allows in specific areas and on public land.
>>
Its at a local park that has a large pine forrest. I asked the park ranger if it was alright and he said it was
>>
>>836061
Thanks m8. I was wondering what it was called. Now I can do some proper research.

>>836062
That's awesome dude!

hmm is this you OP?
>>
>>836081
Scouts with lots of badges really don't do much /out/. They tend to only do the stuff specifically for badges and nothing else.
>>
>>836121
Not true, I'd have to search for my sash to give you a count but I had a LOT. More than anyone else ever in my troop. We also had one of the most /out/ troops around. Canoe/camping trips at least once/month in the summer. 1 2 week extended camp, 2 weeks at local BSA camp. Super active.

The thing I learned from merit badges was basically you can learn anything and most things are pretty easy to learn, if not master.
>>
>>836081
Geez they've faggoted up the program so that mongoloids can pass. On the bright side it would look great with my seed dropping from its maw
>>
>>836081
>I wonder how he got that handicap patch....
>>
>>836121
honestly i left because i couldn't do the shit i wanted to. like hunting trapping and just carry a gun every time i go inna woods. i had more fun in the woods with just me and my buddies than in scouts.
>>
>>836793

well at least you got it all figured out eventually

Oh you must be one of these new faggy Colorado type hipster's that I heard are overrunning /out/ these days. And so you don't like funs, hunting, etc.

What about bears and other wild animals? Shit even porcupines can be a pain in the ass, and other varmints. Rattlesnakes, and on and on...
>>
>>836855
Not him but
>rattlesnakes

Fuck man. I live in good ol Bama and FUCK snake
>>
>>836855
nope humans are evil creatures and should never end the life of another animal in the most humane and efficient way possible
>>
>>836855
nobody said anything about hunting or killing. just saying scouts wasn't good enough but you can't carry a gun everytime innawoods is pretty much saying that having the gun is the priority compared with every other /out/ activity.

i have a friend who's a drunk and he'll swear up and down that he loves camping but any trip that he can't lug a 12pk with him he doesn't go. because it's bullshit, he just likes drinking. same fucking thing.
>>
>>836894
Except it isn't

Georgia transplant living in the PNW, here... Let me tell you: Being able to step over logs without fear of rattlers is a feeling second only to the feeling of a newly yielding virgin. Still teach my girlfriend's kids to check with sticks, though...
>>
>>830961
You should show the truck/atv/tractor you used to haul all your sticks around... Because you sure as hell didn't yank them by hand.

What size/length nails you using op?

Wouldn't be able to get atv out there with how many dead pines there are. And I sawed the logs and used my big boy muscles to carry them around. I did salvage some nails from a boardwalk so those helped me make the benches, everthing else is tied or joined together with wood pins
Quit being salty

Absolutely not allowed. You could be charged with vandalism. People who leave stuff like this on public land should be fined, and banned from the area. It's an eye sore.

If it's on private land then I'm all for it, I think it's pretty awesome actually.

I'm just sick of going for a hike and seeing a bunch of half assed "bushcrafted" shelters laying around.
>>
>>836855
Guns aren't effective against bears that are aggressive.

A recent study showed that waving your arms and yelling had the same effectiveness as using a gun against an aggressive bear. About 80% effective.

Bear spray was found to be 99% effective at deterring an aggressive bear.
>>
>>837943
>sleep over logs

You don't need to bushcraft some shitty shelter.

Do u even hammock bro?
>>
>>838174
Unload the mag when he is 30 feet away you goddamn fucking idiot

It's like you want to be eaten by a fucking bear or something

Updates?
>>
>>839807
Its rained the past two days so i haven't made it out there. But at least ill be able to see if the new thatching works. I have an abundance of cattails and lily pads near me which would make great roof materials but both are illegal to mess with here so i have to cope with reed grass
