Has anyone ever done any prolonged hiking in Iceland if yes?
How was it?
I want to do a hike where i walk from most southern part to the most northern part of the island.
Iceland is not mentioned in Walkopedia top walks and i cant find a lot of material about my goal ... although there is some little material and on youtube a few people did the walk.
For example there is tons of material about the Kungsleden, but there is not a lot of stuff about the Iceland crossing, although its like a similar thing.
Brahs, help me out. Is this a good idea. Anybody done this before? and can recommend doing it? I need a thumbs up from at least one pro.
I've never been to Iceland to hike, but I have heard some stories about it (so feel free to shoot me down if I'm incorrect). Apprently you need to take into account that winds can be/ will be pretty strong, so make sure your tent is storm proof. Next, the Laugavegurinn trail is beautiful, but also potentially tough (due to weather) and more and more people are hiking it. The westfjords are very remote I heard, and you could use the bus on the one highway in Iceland to go there (or anywhere near the coast really). Finally, take a look at this site: http://www.northernadventures.co/

I hear the volcanos and glaciers can both be pretty dangerous, which is probably why most people don't do what you're planning, op

Yeah I've been hiking in Iceland and one of my tent poles snapped in the wind.
It gets very strong in the centre of the island. No trees or vegetation of any sort.
