Not helpful now, but in the military we're supposed to let the medics take 'em off when we find them, they have a tool for it, and also send it off to check for diseases. I don't know if they can actually do anything for it, so it might just be for getting statistics. Also don't know if they'd even bother to send off ticks on the civilian side.
I've never had a tick since I was 10, probably partly luck, but blouse yer boots and have long sleeve shirts which are tight around your wrists and I'm sure it helps.
